Note: A totally awesome friend sent me a copy of this game. ^^ What mysteries await in an old mansion with its strange rules and even stranger nightly events? :o Introduction Sharehouse is a horror, romance visual novel developed and published by Team Nyxian. You're Robin, a young adult who's been invited to live in an old mansion near the university, having obtained a scholarship from a mysterious benefactor. After being greeted by Alnilam, the owner of the mansion, you're given a set of very unusual rules to follow and you meet your fellow housemates. Robin does their best to follow the rules and everything seems normal until one night, they discover a shadow creepily approaching them. What will Robin do when they discover that there's way more to the mansion and that there are very good reasons to follow the house rules? :o With the gameplay, numerous choices are presented throughout the story. While some decisions will lead to bad ends, others will either put Robin on the alone route (which is kind of like a bad end, but nothing tragic happens to them) or on one of the four romance routes: Alnilam, Emil (the reclusive sculptor), Lucas (the freelance detective), or Edmund (the lawyer). Each route has a good ending, neutral ending, and bad ending. As for Robin, you can choose for them either to be male or female although the name and facial features are set. Several CGs are shown as well as a varied soundtrack and some sound effects although almost no voice acting. Steam achievements are available, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game". Review I remember this visual novel getting on my radar back when I first heard about it, and feeling in the mood to play a romance story but with some horror, I decided to try this out. XD Story and Writing Even though the store page promotes this game as otome, it actually can be either otome or yaoi since Robin (which is more of a neutral gender name) can be female or male. I ended up having Robin be a female MC in all my playthroughs. Anyway, I like how the scene is set up, with Robin having no memory of their childhood and how they obtained a scholarship to the university near the mansion where they're attending. While Robin is pretty much what you'd expect of a typical amnesiac MC, it's the romance options that caught my interest. There are a wide variety of personalities, such as the fun-loving, teasing detective, Lucas, who's secretly searching for proof that his childhood friend is still alive, and Emil, the quiet sculptor who is tied to Robin's past. The romance scenes are pretty tame since there aren't any kissing scenes. *sigh* However, there is plenty of story, such as creepy shadows, constant knocking on room doors, etc., that all happen at night. Clearly, there's a deep mystery going on here. While I recommend going through all the romance routes (Edmund is my favorite since I like the dark-haired, serious types ^^), if you want the most relevant story parts, then here are my thoughts. Emil's route gives the most info in regards to Robin and their past, while Alnilam's route is the canon route with lots of story reveals and whatnot. Alnilam's route should probably be saved for last. Despite the game being promoted as horror, I didn't really feel like the horror elements were that scary. (Then again, I've seen way scarier things in real life than in fiction. :o) As for the writing, the pacing is fine. It can feel initially weird when the story is narrated from the second person perspective, but that didn't bother me since I've played some CYOAs that use this POV. Now, there are occasional typos and some grammatical errors. In my opinion, it would really help to have a native English speaker proofread the script for a smooth reading experience although the story itself is understandable. As for achievements, they're all obtainable, but if you have difficulties with getting any of them, there's an awesome Steam user guide that can help out. XD Art and Music The art style is aesthetically pleasing. I like how well drawn and colored the sprites and backgrounds are. The guys are especially handsome. I wish that since you can choose the MC's gender, it would have been awesome to customize their facial features, but it's a very minor nitpick. As for CGs, they're especially done well and quite lovely to look at. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3819544020 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3819544180 In regards to the music, there's a good variety of tracks. The horror ones are totally on point and perfectly placed in the appropriate nighttime scenes. Also, there are some more peaceful tracks, which add for a good contrast. The sound effects are great for a bit of story flavor, such as the grandfather clock ticking and the creepy laughing. In addition, there are a couple of lines that are voice acted, but they're on a very minimal scale. They're present in the bad endings. Conclusion Would I recommend Sharehouse? If you're looking for a romance story with some horror, then this might be a good fit. However, I should again give a heads up that the horror elements might not really be that scary, depending on your scare tolerance. Still, at the asking price, it's a fair deal, as it took me over 7.5 hours to 100% complete the game. Of course, this is assuming that you want to play all the routes and whatnot. Of course, you can wait for a sale. ^^ The Introverted Gamer and Otome Rakuen team up to give readers highly detailed, thorough reviews of hot romance games.

Wasn't bad. It was a little slow to start. I wouldn't buy it if your in it for the horror, as I didn't find it that scary really. However, I thought it was well written for the most part and the theme made sense to the story. Characters were interesting.

This game makes me wish Steam had a neutral/mixed option to select, instead of just Yes or No. At a surface, this game is good. I am enjoying it. I like the characters, I like the art, and the plot (so far) isn't bad. As a big fan of horror, its fun to find a romance game featuring it. But the grammatical errors are immersion breaking, at least for me. I am currently on Emil's route and its pretty bad so far. There are a lot of issues with tenses, tone and spelling. If this game got another pass at editing and fixed most of these issues, I'd absolutely recommend it. But when you create a visual novel, typos/errors/grammatical issues are absolutely a huge issue, and it really dampens my enjoyment. If that isn't a huge issue for you, then please feel free to disregard my complaints. I do implore the devs to take another look at the script and fix some of these issues, because I want to recommend this one, I really do. For now, because I do enjoy everything else I'll give it a reluctant Yes.

TL;DR in advance: this is a very fun game and i 100% recommend it, big fan of the setting and characters. has some grammar/translation issues, but nothing too off-putting. “horror” is probably an exaggeration, but the concepts are all incredibly intriguing. do not use this game as a guide on how to romance your landlord. breaking every house rule is NOT a good idea. /j the game wouldn’t start on my steam deck (only because of my settings; i have later figured out that it was some of my personalisations that were making it crash, it works fine otherwise), but i really wanted to play it so i finally got over my procrastination and figured out how to run windows-only games on my mac lol good decision! definitely worth it! the art is beautiful, of course. all the cgs are gorgeous, and the in-game sprites are very pretty too. i love the character designs for everyone, including the protagonist. the characters themselves are also all very interesting!! from the very start of my first playthrough i was immediately determined to play all the routes because i wanted to know what everyone’s deal was. my personal preference in terms of routes: plot: lucas > alnilam >> emil >= edmund romance/character personalities: alnilam > emil > lucas > edmund (sorry edmund im not into stoic boys and i also feel like your route’s conflict has a lot of good buildup but not enough payoff). (emil i love you i wish your story was a little more involved and a little less abrupt) BIG shoutout to the setting. the evil house with very specific rules thing is so so interesting. i am a chronic rule follower so of course i memorised them all immediately and yelled at robin whenever they were doing anything wrong /j. i also like how each specific aspect of the house plays into different routes, like edmund with the phone, emil with the mirrors, lucas with the dolls, and alnilam with the stairs. wish we got to know more about the clock and mike, but i may just not have explored the bad endings enough, lol. ESPECIALLY a big fan of the plot/twist in lucas’s route. the idea of someone’s wish literally turning you into another person? waking up to look in the mirror and find out your eyes are suddenly purple? chilling, fascinating, 10/10. sort of wish the game leaned into this more. actually, sort of wish it leaned into the house’s horrors more in all the routes. i’m a wimp when it comes to horror games, but even i will admit this wasn’t very scary or even unsettling, though it certainly had the potential to be. but the concepts being THIS interesting makes up for it in my mind. (then again, maybe this just means i need to explore the bad end routes for real. i’m so intrigued by lucas’s based on the achievement name. yessss evil house mould me into being a whole different person based on someone’s desire.) my probably biggest gripe with this game is the grammar. emil and alnilam’s routes especially feel like they weren’t proofread as thoroughly – tenses are inconsistent A LOT, sometimes with past and present mixed up in the same sentence, and narration sometimes switches between second/third/first person. i’m guessing this game was translated from a different language? sometimes statements are clearly meant to carry weight based on character reactions, but the actual phrasing makes them seem pretty light or just confusing. lucas and edmund are better in this regard, maybe the routes just had more time to be polished. but either way, that didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the plot or the characters. anyway, all in all, i’d definitely recommend this game!! it has many very very interesting ideas, and i won’t deny it had be blushing twirling my hair a little. it’s not HEAVY on romance like some other otome games, even in the “good” endings - certainly more emphasis on plot - but it definitely has its very interesting moments! money and time well spent!

such a unique visual novel with a GORGEOUS artstyle and in depth characters. very well written and made, love the fact that u can choose ur gender too even though its tagged as otome. there are minor grammar/translation(?) mistakes but nothing that impacts the understanding of the plot. this game is so worth ur time!!

I really enjoyed myself playing The Sharehouse! There are moments when the story hits just right and I want to pull out my drawing tablet to immortalize them, because I enjoy each and every one of the leads so far in this story. Now, I haven't finished ALL of the routes yet, so I'll just discussed what I liked/disliked about the game and my thoughts about the characters. Pros: - I like both of Robin's designs, though the male one is my personal fav. - The background music does a wonderful job at setting the scene. Also, I like that every character has their own BGM according to how they're feeling. - The CG illustrations are lovely, and I love the spites even more! I think Alnilam and Lucas tied for me on favorite character design, but they're all very good. - I can't guarantee for sure, but I think there's a hidden affection meter within this game; you do not have to follow a guide's exact choices just to get the ending you want. I picked different options from one of the guides and still got the best ending for Emil and Lucas. Just keep that in mind if you're worried about messing up or wanting a more authentic experience over a guided one. - I enjoyed the build up of suspense. This game does it well in spades. I enjoy this sort of thing, so I was always eager to see what was coming up next. Cons: - I have to agree with others. There are moments when the grammar/script of the game isn't that great, which is a big downside in a visual novel. I was able to get through it just fine, but you won't be a fan if that sort of thing takes you out of the story. - I actually wish there was more horror within the good routes. I enjoy the game as it is immensely, but I actually had to go back and work my way towards getting offed within the house. It's easier in the beginning, but more potentially deadly moments in the later half of the routes would have been cool too. Characters: - I haven't actually played Edmund's route at all, and I'm working my way towards some of the other bad endings. - Emil is adorable and deserves hugs. - I would take Alnilam literally wherever he wants to go. We can drink tea, eat snacks, and travel the world together with our psuedo-son Emil. - Lucas was probably the funniest route, and that's 100% because he's the type to tease and be teased in return. - I enjoy seeing Edmund be the straight man in this comedy mix (such as the lightbulb scene with Lucas, Emil, and Edmund). I actually haven't aimed for one of his routes yet, so I can't say I have much of an opinion on him yet. He tends to do his own thing, and I respect that. Overall, I really enjoyed myself playing this. I'm aiming to eventually score all the achievements and maybe whip up some fan art down the line. For those who are interested in this game, best of luck to ya!

I really wish Steam lets the player to give a neutral rating, not just recommended or not recommended. Because this game fall into that category. The art is fabulous but the story is short... It's very short to the point it's feels rushed? At least I felt MC's attraction to Emil is very sudden or maybe it can't be helped because the game's storyline overall is indeed not that long in the first place. The game also need editor because it use secondary POV but there's one scene (Final scene where Emil avoid MC) in Emil's route that break my immersion, where Edmund comes in and saw Lucas and MC talking about Emil. It's suddenly changes to third POV or 'them' refering to MC and Lucas, which imo, there's should be a break line or interlude before this scene, because previously we still in secondary / 'You' POV. Lucas: "Or maybe we should make a plan to catch him?" Lucas's face looked cunning. Of course, you look just as cunning. The two of them laughed mischievously in the living room. Even Edmund, who was about to walk in, stopped in his tracks. He looked at them with a strange expression. They planned together for a while. First, they had to find a way to lure Emil out. Or at least capture the person first. So you wait for him at his usual time. I feel like it's better to stay in the second POV to keep the story flow: Both of you laughed mischievously in the living room. Even Edmund, who was about to walk in, stopped in his tracks. He looked at both of you with a strange expression. You two planned together for a while. First, you had to find a way to lure Emil out. Or at least capture the person first. So you wait for him at his usual time. Well, in the end, I still enjoy the game mainly because the art and the story is not that bad.
