The best part of this game, is its simplicity, you can put it in windowed mode and watch something on youtube while playing, I did that a lot and it felt cool. The shotguns are okay, while they all have unique playstyles, they lack balance, Victoria is hands down the best gun in the game, on the second place is the richard III, the other shotguns are just not worth it. Same thing goes for the cards, some of them are straight up bad, and they feel like a waste of perk space. This game is VERY rng-heavy... Sometimes the game gives you the middle finger by giving you the said trash perks, while making a god out of the white king. Your pellets have a chance to miss but... they also have a chance to kill a protected piece, making you lose the game to a discovered check, which is the most annoying thing in game. The achievements are pretty bad, most of them require you to get 3 specific cards in a single run that you also have to win. Getting them wasn't fun, you either end up missing a single card from the "specific bundle", or you get them all, but then die to a discovered check. I like the idea behind this title, and I think that the game is overall fine, it does sometimes feel cheap and unfair, but its a cool game that can be played while doing something else. I do recommend it, but not for the full price, also it may be a good idea to put it lower on your wishlist, as it's more of a "in-between" game.

Great game, but the Folly Sheild ignores discovered checks and counts shooting the white king when you are next to them and they will die as dangerous.

Erst einmal sollte ich erwähnen, dass man für dieses Spiel zumindest ein bisschen Ahnung von Schach haben sollte – also zumindest wissen sollte, wie sich die einzelnen Figuren bewegen. Ihr startet mit eurem König und müsst den gegnerischen König besiegen. Bis dahin klingt alles nach ganz normalem Schach. Doch jetzt kommt der Clou: Ihr habt nur eine einzige Figur – euren König – und eine Waffe. Mit dieser Waffe könnt ihr die gegnerischen Figuren aus der Distanz angreifen und zerstören. Euer Ziel bleibt dabei weiterhin der gegnerische König, wobei es im späteren Verlauf sogar mehrere davon geben kann. Solltet ihr eine Runde überstehen, dürft ihr euch eine Verbesserung für euch selbst und gleichzeitig eine Verstärkung für den Gegner aussuchen. Zum Beispiel könnt ihr stärkere Schüsse bekommen, während euer Gegner dafür eine zusätzliche Dame erhält. Und genau so baut sich das Spiel von Runde zu Runde immer weiter auf. Ihr müsst ständig taktische Entscheidungen treffen und gut überlegen, wie ihr vorgeht, denn die gegnerischen Schachfiguren können euren gesamten Run sofort beenden, sobald sie euch schlagen. Shotgun King ist für mich wieder ein tolles Beispiel dafür, wie man ein bekanntes Spielprinzip nehmen und es mit Roguelike-Elementen zu etwas völlig Eigenständigem machen kann.

Honestly one of the best if not the best chess-themed rougelike. An engaging gameplay with many variables that always make each run feel different and unique. The replayability is crazy thanks to all the secrets, the achievments and the alternative modes like charnier. And the art style mixed with the story just makes my face smile every time i see it. Truly a game you should try

A really fun combination of things that shouldn't work as well as they do. The idea is genuinely original, and turning chess into a roguelike with a shotgun is just brilliant. Simple, fun and surprisingly addictive.
