I don't play Point & Click games very often, but Simon the Sorcerer Origins caught my attention almost immediately because of its art style. The hand-drawn visuals look great, and I really like all the little details in the world. It feels a bit like stepping into an animated cartoon, and I often found myself just looking around and taking in the scenery. The humour is another thing that really stood out to me. It's quirky, sometimes downright silly, but that's part of the game's charm. Simon isn't exactly a typical hero. He's sarcastic, a little arrogant and usually more interested in himself than in being a hero, which leads to some genuinely funny moments. The conversations with the other characters are fun as well. Some of them are pretty strange, and you never quite know what kind of response you're going to get from Simon. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and I think that suits it perfectly. I also have to mention the soundtrack. The music fits the game really well, especially the tracks at the beginning. They set the mood right away and made a good first impression. Along with the visuals and humour, the soundtrack helps create a very light and playful atmosphere. As for the puzzles, I found them intuitive and reasonably straightforward. I never felt like I needed to keep a guide open just to make progress. Most of the time, taking a closer look at the surroundings and thinking for a moment was enough to figure out what to do next. I liked that the puzzles usually made sense within the world, whether it was using an item, figuring out a strange magical device or simply remembering something a character had said. Taking my time with the locations was part of the fun too. I liked exploring, talking to the characters and seeing what would happen next. There are plenty of odd little things to discover in the magical world, and I liked never quite knowing what I was going to come across. The story isn't particularly complicated, but it kept me interested, and seeing what kind of trouble Simon would get himself into was often entertaining. It doesn't try to make the adventure more complicated than it needs to be, and I think that's one of its strengths. I wasn't expecting to get this into the game when I started it, especially since I don't usually play Point & Click adventures. But it turned out to be a really nice surprise. The visuals, weird humour, music, characters and relaxed approach to puzzles all worked for me. I had a good time with it, and I'm glad I decided to give it a try.

Ein nettes kurzweiliges Spiel, dass leider nur sehr sehr schwer an seine Vorgänger anknüpft. Wir begleiten Simon in der Zeit VOR Teil 1 und 2. Der Charme der ersten Teile wird nicht ansatzweise erreicht. Nett ist das Feature zaubern und man trifft ein paar alte Bekannte. Der junge Simon macht natürlich nicht ganz so derbe Witze wie in Teil 1 und 2, dem Alter zuzuschreiben. Meines Erachtens hat das aber recht wenig mit Simon the Sorcerer zu tun. Die Absurditäten dieses Universums fehlen einfach komplett und es ist wirklich einfach nur ein 08/15 Spiel, dass einfach nur den alten Namen trägt. Leider Geldverschwendung, wenn man auf einen neuen Simon Teil gehofft hat.
