Sintopia

1 / 8

Hell is full. Bureaucracy is eternal. And you’re in charge.

Sintopia is a darkly comedic strategy and management sim where you run the underworld’s most dysfunctional punishment facility. As a freshly promoted middle manager of Hell Incorporated, your job is simple: “re-educate” sinners, resurrect the worthy, and turn eternal damnation into an optimized business machine.

Build sin processing facilities, perfect their automation, manage hellish “imployees,” and maintain a thriving Overworld… or show the Humus who’s really in charge by flexing your divine power. Shape your underworld empire across multiple layers of Hell and decide what kind of deity you want to be… merciful, efficient, or deliciously petty.

Key Features:

Build a devilishly efficient underworld to process the endless stream of sinful souls arriving from above. Punish souls to turn a profit and expand your capabilities or divine influence. Hire eclectic imployees to keep the paperwork flowing… just make sure they’re paid on time.

Uphold a thriving Overworld to maintain the cycle of resurrection. As Hell’s administrator, you can use your divine powers to “motivate” the living to do your bidding. Nothing like a bolt of lightning or a spontaneous inferno to spur the Humus population into action.

Souls accumulate sins across their many lifetimes. Keep an eye on these levels and build specialized purification centres to stop corruption from spiralling out of control. Otherwise, you may have a monstrous demon on your hands or even worse, a devastating hit to your efficiency… truly diabolical.

Office politics has never been so dangerous! Enact biblical-level corporate intrigues in the story-based campaign mode. Test your organizational mettle in Challenge Mode. Perfect the art of Hell building or slack-off for the day in the fully customizable Sandbox Mode.

I really wanted to like this game. A great concept with decent humor that reminded me of the Dungeons or Overlord games. However... The fundamentals are bad. Moving the camera around when placing objects is bad. Trying to create path logic for your souls is bad and works just as much as it fails. Every part of the management side of the game is like someone smashed it all together after a concept meeting and nobody vetted how any of the systems work and interact. You have no real power over the overworld and the spells you have are like bringing a dollar store squirt gun to a firehose fight. They're all annoying to use as if you were tasked with using your mouse with a stick from 6ft away. They don't act consistently. On the hell side, all of your imps are constantly taking breaks just as much as they work. If the imp at your waiting station goes on break, no souls can travel through that stopping point. Even when I have rest rooms next to work buildings, the imps still stand in the doorway playing with themselves instead of going to the rest room, even when it's empty. I don't believe the whole game is vibe coded like some others but it absolutely lacks critical oversight of how their systems interact with each other and it ends up feeling like the blind leading the blind. Even with a real desire to play this game, all it makes me want to do smash things in total frustration then grab a drink. There are SO MANY excellent management sims this game could've taken more inspiration from and it's super disappointing it's basically unplayable. If you can't make a solidly playable game, don't try to branch off the norm and do your own thing. You have to start somewhere and Sintopia is a prime example of a concept that died when the game was released. I just hope I can get a refund after 3.7hrs because half of that was leaving the game up while walking away to swear, drink, and punch something while telling myself that maybe things will get better. I see no indication that anything will be better if the basics aren't even workable. Would definitely recommend avoiding this one unless you have a real penchant for this particular genre and setting along with a TON of patience.

Right so, where to begin? The game is split into 2 sections. Hell: This part of the game is great and makes up 70% of your experience - maybe more. Its pretty fun trying to optimise cleansing souls, making money, figuring out loops (don't let that put you off its not too bad) and overall i enjoyed the time down under. Until: Overworld - Where you can cast spells and that's it. Most of the game is hoping you don't get shafted by your ruler doing a crap job. So to explain the game selects a ruler (you cant chose besides killing him and hoping a new one comes into power). After that the overworld completely plays itself. You have no control. Getting swarmed by an army? Sucks to be you. "Oh but cast some spells) the spells don't discriminate so zapping the enemy means zapping your troops. I'm on mission 6 and just stuck. I got hell so nicely optimised and working, happy days but the overworld just gets destroyed game after game. I've had HOURS of missions wiped out because of the useless overworld. There needs to be a LITTLE more control. So on that basis I just cant recommend it over so many other games.

Every since I played the ancient Lucasart Afterlife, I have loved the idea of a game in which you get to manage Heaven and/or Hell. But, unfortunately, extremely few games have tried any such thing ever since then. This is the first game I have seen in a very long time that attempts to do this and actually does a reasonably good job of it. Its still not my "perfect" afterlife management game, so to speak, its not that deep and it entirely lacks the Heaven element, but its a very good attempt, and its fun. Also, the plot is really good, at least for a management game. I don't think any management game I have played in the past has ever made me care anywhere near as much for the plot and characters as this one. It almost feels like the campaign of an old timey RTS game, but in a good way. Somehow, this game also manages to be the best "Black & White like" god game I have played in a vert long time, with its overworld element. The Humus are one of the best implementations of an autonomous civilization that the player watches over and influences that I have seen. In the original Black & White your silly little civilization still needed you to perform various tasks for them. The Humus of this game can do everything themselves if you let them, but you can also influence them in various ways. And they are not, generally speaking, frustratingly slow to do things or incompetent, and the game gives you the tools to compensate for their inadequacies if you do end up feeling that way. And despite the low variety of miracles to use, the miracle-flinging is really fun. Gradually learning how to make the most out of each miracle is really satisfying. Mastering the flinging of the explosive magma balls, in particular, is a joy. In short: If you like management games with exoteric concepts, you will probably enjoy this. If you are a fan of the Black & White series and would like to play a game like that again, and don't mind the element of hell management, you will probably enjoy this.

Thought I'd play this for a couple hours on a quiet Sunday, fun little game reminds me of black and white and dungeon keeper, before I knew it 10 hours had passed and I regret nothing. my only gripe of this game is some of the controls can be sensitive and the camera never goes high enough for a good top down over view.

Incredibly detailed game with a lot of fun animations and interactions, but be aware that the campaign has a sharp difficulty spike a few missions in and I almost quit the game, however I am glad I stuck with it.

While the game certainly isn't bad, I wouldn't call it good. I don't think "unfinished" or "half baked" really apply, the game is two unfinished half baked games smashed together haphazrdly and polished until it was really sparkly.

It at times like these I wish Steam had a better option other than Yes/No. Brought this game two weeks ago, after trying the free Playtest, kept on Wishlist & Follow until it came out and went on sale. Game has a good 50-60 hours to complete the main campaign at normal difficulty. Yes, game is complete, you have a start a middle and an end. Unfortunately this is also the same for the background support. Just been reading a recent Steam post stating that support (including game patches / bug fixes) has already been ceased. I can only speculate as to the reasons for this cessation. The reasons given were vague (please see quote below) Providing the original context here (i.e. the message shared in the Discord by myself earlier today): We’re incredibly happy with the game we’ve built in Sintopia, and although we’d love the opportunity to keep finding ways to grow and evolve it, we’ve reached the point where that just isn’t feasible to keep pursuing. We’re so thankful to the community who have come on this journey through hell with us. Thank you to everyone who has offered their thoughts and critiques since launch. We’ve read and evaluated every request. The Imployee Retention update, which is the last planned update for the game, was largely fueled by community feedback and really helped us raise the game to a whole other level. We’re lucky to have had such an active and engaged community who wanted the very best for the game and for us. We understand this is disappointing news but we couldn’t have asked for better Administrators. We’ve had a hell of a time with you. 😈 I like the game and don't want to leave a negative review but can I recommend a good game knowing that it's already been abandoned by the developers?

games fun at first. once you get to level 4 every soul is like 100+ sin and theres no way to clear that amount early game before you get completely back logged. i really wanted to like this game as it hit like 3 itches for me.. but at this point its getting uninstalled and probably wont revisit. i love complicated games but they just literally make it to where you are destined to lose.
