As a huge fan of 4th wall breaking games - i've been waiting for the release of Solipsistic for a while now, and I can surely say that this game is worth a shot, and i'm glad to leave the one of the first reviews here. I recommend you to go ahead and try this game out by yourself, especially since it's free. What I liked: - Story I find the story quite simple to understand, but it still manages to keep you interested. Wish i could say something more, but I find this difficult without leaving spoilers here. - Characters Characters here a unique from each other. They have their own motives, different behavior. They are easy to remember. - Fourth wall breaking elements Not only characters acknowledge your existence, this game also goes beyond the regular window, making you interact with the files in the game folder. - Graphics and the art style Graphics are alright and the aesthetic of this game is really unique, not something that i've already seen before. - Sound effects They are REALLY great. The ambience, different noises, they're all of a good quality. What I didn't really liked: - Repetitive gameplay This game basically follows the same formula most of the time. Move/Redact/Delete files in a folder -> Get a piece of story -> interact with something. I wish it could be more than that. - Voice acting It's not exactly bad, it's... Mid. I understand that most of the voice actors aren't probably сertified actors or anything like that, but still, i believe that voice acting could be better. Elijah, for example, is overly dramatic throughought the whole game, not showing much of the emotions, which makes this character difficult to take seriously. - Text/Subtitles This part of game requires some attention, i've seen about a couple of typos while playing and probably missed some since english is not my first language. For example - there's a typo right at the warning screen, with "epilepsy" being spelt as "elpsiey", which is difficult to not notice since it's literally the first thing you see in a game. - The game is... Not scary? It's probably just me, so you dont have to agree with me on this one, but despite the fact that this game is a psychological horror game, it just wasn't scary. The atmosphere, ocasional loud noises, they were taking no effect on me throughout the whole game. And that's about it. Either way - if you like 4th wall breaking horror games, you should try this one. The game is short though - i've managed to get all of the endings (unless there's no secret endings that im not aware of) and decrypt all the messages in a matter of about an hour.

really fun little indie project, file manipulation in games is always fun. story is easy to follow if a little corny at times. good fun for like an hour, i just wish there was more content but to be expected from a small project. very good work :) also the final ost is beautiful

The game’s overview is very good, I like how it personally intervenes within the players decisions and emotions too, other games may have done the same thing but this one is hella creative with it.

It’s a great game with a very interesting story and incredible mechanics; the ability to modify the game files is amazing. I highly recommend playing it, and I hope they can translate it into more languages—like Spanish and other lenguages, 100% recommended.

Solipsistic is the kind of psychological horror game that immediately caught my attention because it does something more interesting than simply putting me in a scary place. I wake up inside a program controlling someone with no memories, and from the beginning there is this feeling that something is seriously wrong. The game constantly plays with the idea that I am not just controlling what is happening, but that the game itself is aware of me. I really liked that strange feeling of uncertainty. The most interesting part for me is the file manipulation mechanic. Instead of keeping everything inside the normal game world, I have to interact with files in the game's own folder to restore memory fragments and solve certain puzzles. That makes the fourth wall breaking idea feel like an actual gameplay mechanic rather than just a story gimmick. I enjoyed having to think about the game from outside the usual boundaries and wondering what it wanted me to notice. The story also does a good job of keeping me suspicious. Another person interrupts the process and claims that the program is actually a seal, which immediately makes me question who I am supposed to believe. I liked not having a completely trustworthy source of information because it makes the mystery more interesting. The characters have their own motives, and some of the choices feel like they could change how I understand what is really happening. The horror is more psychological than dependent on constant jump scares, which worked well for me. There is an unsettling atmosphere throughout the experience, and the idea that the characters inside the program know that someone outside is interacting with them is genuinely creepy. I also liked that the game has multiple endings because it gives the choices more importance and makes me curious about what might happen if I approach certain situations differently. The biggest weakness for me is that the experience is fairly short. Once I understood the main idea and reached an ending, I wanted more time with the characters and the world. The file manipulation concept feels like something that could have supported much larger and more complicated puzzles. I also think some parts could have pushed the horror further, because the central concept is much more disturbing than some of the actual moments in the game. I still appreciate how focused Solipsistic is. It does not need a huge world or loads of different mechanics to make its point. The fact that it is free also makes it much easier for me to recommend, especially if I enjoy experimental horror games that mess around with the boundary between the game and my computer. I particularly liked how the file system mechanic supports the story instead of feeling like a random gimmick added just to be different. Overall, I think Solipsistic is a clever psychological horror experience with a genuinely interesting idea at its centre. The file manipulation puzzles, unreliable characters and fourth wall breaking story gave me something to think about, while the atmosphere kept the whole thing feeling unsettling. It is short and I would have liked more content, but I would rather have a focused game with an idea this memorable than a longer horror game that does nothing interesting. For a free experience, I think it is definitely worth trying. Rating: 6.6/10
