Its fun dont get me wrong. And its nice to finally see another Star Wars racing game. However, we need local splitscreen and custom multiplayer lobbies. The ability to load into a game with a friend and race eachother on choosable maps would be a game changer. This could be huge if these options were implemented. Please devs listen to the community!

I don't even like racing games and this is the most fun I've had in a long damn time. If you like Star Wars, get it. If you like Need for Speed or Burnout get it. If you like driving so fast you are always inches away from death the absolutely get it.

What it is, what it isnt, and if it is good, and a finale where I give a tip to ANYONE who wants to play it. What it is: It is a Roguelite racer game where losing doesn't necessarily mean losing, but dying repeatedly absolutely does. Planet progression is a risk/reward game where you can either take on regular races to earn cash, and Eliminations in the campaign to earn rare parts for your craft, in exchange for being at danger of losing it all (or at least one of your lives, once you pass the opening act, apparently). What it isnt: Star Wars, Episode 1 Racer. Unlike its predecessor, which was based on winning at all costs and managing part qualities (which you do have to do SOMEWHAT here, but unlike in the original where lower stats means parts work less, parts malfunctioning means that you are hit with an RPG status effect until you can get out of the races) Is it Good: Yes, it is a steep price to pay for a roguelite game, but there are a variety of game modes that are going to make me play it well into the hundred hour mark, and the races are more action oriented than the usual roguelite or roguelike affair of Card Combo builders. If you are not a fan of the original Racer, buy this on a discount, and if you are a fan, be prepared to relearn the game, to a degree. For experienced pod racers, you might be disappointed by the afterburners system, dont worry, your favorite press your luck boost mechanic is just a bit further in, and you get to use both of them, and synergize with them. Tip: In the menu controls, go to video, and turn off Takedown Cam. You still get the afterburner from it, and you wont repeatedly take yourself out looking at someone else's misfortune. The default in this game is to rubberneck at the car crashes, and you can turn them off. Edit: There was 1 demerit I had to give this game. They have a cat that shows up in the campaign hub occasionally. The Player Character, Shade, when I prompt him to pet the cat, says "I am here for racing." MF, YOU CAN BE A RACER, AND STILL PET CATS. THIS IS A SIN, FUSE GAMES. **SIN**.

Somehow, Ben Quadinaros returned. And when I saw that he was a selectable racer, I thought "this is where the fun begins". Glad we finally got a new Star Wars racing game outside of arcades and the nintendo 64 after 27 years. It's like Wipeout + Burnout + Motorstorm all had a baby together and sent it out to the world in Star Wars cosplay. Cons: There is no way to rebind keys. There is no quick race function for singleplayer. There is no local splitscreen. We also lack the ability to host custom game modes and private lobbies for multiplayer. Devs, please remedy these issues and we will have something truly special here.

I both LOVE and HATE this game. The racing is fun, the systems are complex enough and fun to use that they do add some variety to your runs. The soundscape is cool, the characters are perfectly serviceable, the maps are cool, and the games hard enough (I played on hard right off of the bat) that you will be challenged (somewhat). What I love is how tight the racing is and how cool it is to be in this world racing. Genuinely a very fun experience. What I hate is having a fairly hollow customisation system, only 3 base vehicle type choices and my biggest gripe of all, and its a big one, THEY DANGLE POD RACING IN FRONT OF YOU THE WHOLE GAME and outside of some bits I won't spoil, it doesn't really ever come to fruition. That being said, if they change a few bits, maybe add another campaign where you do exclusively pod race and get to build one yourself, this would be easily worth £50. Without that however, I would buy this on sale. I completed it on Hard in my third run and I only last about 8 races across all 3 acts. There are a few random CPU quality spikes that were a little annoying, in ACT 2 I won literally every race bar 1, then in ACT 3 everyone, despite them being the same guys you've been racing for 2 ACTS becomes like 25% better at racing, or at least 25% faster. I was still either winning or coming top 3 every race but the quality spike felt unnatural and the main antagonist has an almost unrealistically fast craft that means if you don't pile drive him into a wall at every opportunity, he will just beat you, regardless of how fast you are. Final words - Humans can indeed not drive pod racers. Unless you are flying those things in a very open map, you will die. I was fast and extremely controlled in the normal vehicles, I crashed out of 0 races, but in a pod racer? on some maps I barely made it round a lap without fully crashing out. It's not a complaint per say, but because those experiences are few and far between, you don't really get the opportunity to practice driving them. Add a dedicated Pod racing campaign and vehicle builder and this games a 10. Without that its still a solid 8.

It's a £30 game masquerading as a £50 one. It doesn't have a lot of content or map variety but it is an enjoyable experience, I'm paying on KB/M and I'm having zero trouble only downside you can't remap controls. I'm glad I got it cheaper on a 3rd party site All in all. Wait for a sale
