Ok so, wow, after actually finishing it I have to say, this game might be the one of the most unfairly maligned AAA games in recent memory. I'm not going to defend the horrendous DLC model but the base game is quality. I mean, yeah, sure, I and a lot of other people saw the goofy stealth knockout animations, and they still probably should have given her an electro gauntlet or something, but the game is so much more than that. It's totally fair to say you're sick of ubisoft style open world games, I certainly bailed on Horizon: Forbidden West pretty quickly, so I certainly get it, but if I'm being real this might be one of the better open world games out there. The worlds are very well designed, with lots of secrets to discover and a good intel system to point you in the right directions organically. The ability upgrade system is a lot better than a lot of other skill trees too, I'll tell you that much. Having you do challenges, many of which you can get just playing normally, as well as collecting parts to upgrade your gear and vehicles. It all adds up pretty well. The story actually hits pretty hard for what it is too. Very worthy of the star wars name, and not overly reliant on cameos or glup ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I won't call it perfect, clearly, it crashed a few times, and I would have liked to get a little more quality out of my 3080ti on it, but it was if nothing else stable and playable on dlss performance mode. But yeah, real talk, the internet got this one wrong badly. If you're interested in a star wars open world game, this is extremely it.

Even with a massive discount, this game is not worth spending your time on. The game does not respect your time and tries very hard to artificially prolong the experience. The writers did a horrible job with the main character. The only consistently likable aspect of her character is her pet, which isn't even really about her. Yet the game seems to assume that players will automatically care about her. The strongest part of her character development is taking away her pet - and again, that's mostly about the pet, not her. The rest of the plot feels like a bunch of checkboxes the writers needed to close. There are very few interesting ideas or memorable character moments. The game design isn't much better. The big reputation system becomes irrelevant VERY quickly. It initially looks like it's going to be an important part of the game, but eventually it's basically just a few EXP bars you can max out and forget about. The core gameplay isn't fun either. Shooting is boring. Stealth is boring. Climbing usually feels like a waste of time rather than actual gameplay. The puzzles are fine. Slicing feels like a cool idea at first, but it's so undercooked that it becomes repetitive very quickly. It had the potential to stay relevant throughout the entire game, but never really develops into anything. Surprisingly, I think Sabacc might be the strongest piece of game design here. I genuinely like how cheating is implemented and how different abilities interact with the game. It feels like one of the few systems that actually has some personality behind it. Weirdly, it also feels like the developers themselves didn't have enough confidence in it. But the artists absolutely cooked. The game is beautiful. Some of the environments are genuinely gorgeous, and the art team did an amazing job recreating the Star Wars atmosphere. That's probably the saddest part of the whole thing, because all that incredible environmental work is attached to a game that I found painfully mediocre. Technically, though, I can't complain much. I didn't encounter many bugs during my playthrough, and certainly nothing major. Maybe a few misaligned assets here and there, but that's about it. One thing I kept thinking about while playing is that this game feels like it was VERY different during the prototype stages. This is obviously just speculation, but I refuse to believe that the current main-character-and-pet concept was the original vision from day one. A lot of the game makes much more sense to me if the original idea was a generic or customizable outlaw character in a "choose your own adventure" type of game, where your reputation and decisions actually shaped what kind of criminal you became. My guess is that at some point in development they looked at the Jedi games and decided they also needed that predefined protagonist + cute companion dynamic, and the current protagonist and her pet were built around that direction. Because right now, the main character often feels like an afterthought placed on top of systems that weren't originally designed around her. Some locations reinforce that feeling. A few of them genuinely give you several different ways to progress, almost like they survived from an earlier prototype where player choice and systemic gameplay mattered much more. But most locations just give you multiple paths so they don't look like long corridors. Sometimes they sprinkle in a puzzle or an alternative approach, but usually those paths are just another way to waste your time. The reputation system feels like another leftover from that possible earlier vision. It feels like it was supposed to be a major mechanic that shaped your character. Instead, in the final game it's basically just a few EXP bars you can max out and forget about.

To sum this game up: Bland. It sounds and looks like Star Wars. The story tries hard to be Star Wars-ish, but really just uses a lot of tropes to sail along a 'I want to be free so I need money' line. There's a lot of Ubisoft filler thrown in that is instantly forgettable. Nothing is offensive, but nothing is memorable. The main story is okay, but you've seen it before and Kay as a protagonist isn't very likeable or interesting. ND-5 has some moments, but those are rare. Overall it feels like a phone-it-in Star Wars license title with too much padding. Might be worth it if you are bored and it is on a deep discount, but otherwise I would not waste any money on it (like I did).

I don't normally review things. Ever. But I just finished the campaign with about 95% of the base game explored and complete. (I'm going to try to 100% this game and do the DLCs too.) I've really enjoyed my experience playing Star Wars: Outlaws. While the game is gorgeous and massively detailed with the environments, the story is where it eventually shines the brightest. The ending was fantastic, and overall I didn't notice any glaring continuity or logic issues with it. It all makes sense, it ties in subtly but sturdily with the Star Wars story. One of my favorite things I noticed early-ish into my playthrough, is I was in a cantina, and there was a live band playing. And I watched the band for a while, and I noticed that the droid drummer was actually animated and sequenced to play the drums in time with the music! Most studios would just put in a generic drummer animation and move on, but no! These folks took the time to properly add the detail to make the world feel just that little bit more alive, and I, for one, REALLY appreciate that! If you like action games, exploration games, stealth games (my MO) and games with good graphics, a really good story, and really good music, I'd highly recommend this game! My only main criticism is the whole Ubisoft Play or Connect program you need. BUT it's not intrusive in game and interacting with it is quite optional. TLDR: Great game, lots of detail, lots of fun. 9.5 / 10.

Beautiful game that is shallow and boring. All of the systems feel like they were made to be accessible to children. Narrative is also very meh and uninteresting.

"I really wish this was better. Occasional bugs and janky mash-potato controls aside, if you could just drop a quick-save when you wished, I would recommend grabbing this title... However, from the title screen the save button has never been anything but greyed out and, after a failing a platform jump and losing 20 minutes of gameplay one too many times, I regretfully suggest you spend your entertainment dollars elsewhere. Which is a shame - because it looked like a really cool idea. Why do some developers feel the need to dictate how you "experience their masterpiece"? If a player wants to spam-save and blast though a game on easy mode then surely that's their choice of fun right? Apparently not. Meh. Uninstalling is also a choice." Since you disabled comments on your review which sits at the very top: There are autosaves approximately every 10 seconds and everyone with more than 5 brain cells would have realized very quickly that you can not manually save during an active quest, in restricted areas and while in combat. This is really not that big of a deal. The game makes it 100% impossible to lose more than like one or two minutes of progress and you gotta really go out of your way to achieve that. People like you are the reason why Steam reviews should be disabled forever. Brain dead retarded takes ruining the review score of a pretty good Star Wars game.
