Unlock new tools between attempts to become ruthlessly efficient. WHAT STRAFE® IS NOT
We don't want you to buy STRAFE® if it's not a game you'd enjoy. We'd rather have a happy non-customer than an unhappy customer. This is what STRAFE® isn't:
+ STRAFE® is not a traditional shooter or a "Quake Clone" - STRAFE® pays homage to many classic shooters, and it features many of the classic elements of old school shooters but STRAFE® is a roguelike. This means that it was designed from the ground up for replayability and randomization. Every room in STRAFE® was designed by hand and is seamlessly connected by our level generator to create unique experiences.
+ STRAFE® does not have lives or checkpoints - As a roguelike, if you die in STRAFE® you will start at the beginning of the game and everything will randomize. The game is balanced around this idea to avoid frustration.
+ STRAFE® is not a multiplayer game - There is no multiplayer deathmatch or co-op in STRAFE®. But we recommend Quake Live if you are looking for a great old school arena shooter.
+ STRAFE® is not limited to the design decisions of 1996 - What can I say? We are ahead of our time. STRAFE® is a mix of old and new design. We didn't want to not imitate the games of the past but instead invoke the feeling of them while bringing fresh ideas to the table. We aim to bring you something new with STRAFE®.
+ STRAFE® tries new things with the roguelike FPS formula - We aim to generate full levels that feel more natural to explore and avoid patterns of rooms that lock you in, teleport in enemies and force you to kill them before the doors unlock. We want STRAFE® to feel like a seamless adventure from start to finish.
+ STRAFE® is not a game that will run well on older computers or laptops - STRAFE® may look older but it's a new game and features some cutting edge tech. Please check the min spec!
STRAFE® may look like a game you've played but we've worked hard to create a unique and fresh take on first person shooters, we hope you enjoy it!

this is cute! the tutorial kinda sold me, even though the microphone was a bit rough it was fantastic acting and a capsule trapped in time, really enjoyed the presentation!! game has lovely movement, full bhop and strafe control, you can ramp your speeds up to 600-800ups and really start to enjoy the speed, gunplay is fun but is a bit limited by the classic id-tech modifications. gore is over the top and perfect as it should be. would be cool to see a strafe 2 with some bigger maps and add some co-op and some pvp with arena maps and this would one people come back to play. the rouge element seems kinda meh tho, so doesn't offer crazy replay value but it has the fundamentals down. game also needs hyper threading enabled otherwise it ♥♥♥♥♥ the bed which kinda sucky for a game like this 6.5/10

EDIT: whoever made the jump map, i AM mad and would like a word with you. boomshoot game with the main focus on getting upgrades for one weapon, strafing and making a bloody mess in a randomised layout each run. a run can be about 10 minutes (blazing fast) to 40 minutes, depending on your pace. good ost, good gun feeling. challenging but fair. if you die, thats on you. got my ass kicked several times and each time i knew its on me. git gud and wrenched Imagine Quake, make it have some roguelite elements, a more energetic OST than the atmospheric one in Quake, and you got STRAFE. Its fast, its gory, it's fun. Gameplay wise, it's an old boomshoot inspired game. You get access to three weapons (and a fourth one.) which behave differently, with their own quirks and upgrade paths, but all make short work of the many enemies. The shotgun feels good to use, so does the Machine Gun and Railgun. The Railgun even does the Shock Rifle thing. Weapon Upgrades can alter how your gun behaves, and enhancements make your weapon fire faster, have more ammo per mag, do more damage or be more accurate(?). I don't know what the Crosshair does, nor did I ever notice a difference. Levels are randomised each run, with a few exceptions on the layout staying the same. There's 4 zones and they all feel distinct enough from each other to offer a new challenge, and new enemies. From tight corridors of a burning ship, to rocky canyons, an underground habitation complex and an advanced facility. There are some secrets with a twist, but I won't tell them. I forgot for how much I bought STRAFE for, but I don't regret it. It also has a cute lady in the tutorial cinematic.

Rogue Like Hardcore FPS game. That is shortly the best capture the essence of game. Music is oddly really good. I couldn't expect that music will be good for game like this. Highly recommend if you like Boomer FPS.

STRAFE: Gold Edition is an aggressive blend of old-school first-person shooting and roguelike progression that thrives on speed, unpredictability, and wonderfully excessive violence. Developed by Pixel Titans and published by Devolver Digital, it deliberately looks like something pulled from the mid-1990s, complete with chunky environments, harsh science-fiction architecture, pixelated textures, and an obsession with turning every firefight into a bloody mess. Beneath that retro exterior, however, is a game built around procedural levels, permanent death, randomized equipment, and repeated attempts rather than a conventional linear FPS campaign. Each run places you in the role of a Scrapper attempting to survive a dangerous journey through hostile territory. Death has serious consequences because there are no traditional checkpoints or spare lives waiting to rescue a failed attempt. Getting killed means beginning another run, forcing you to rely on the knowledge and mechanical skills gained from previous failures. Rooms are handcrafted, but their arrangement and various gameplay elements change between runs. Enemy encounters, secrets, equipment, upgrades, and other variables help prevent every attempt from becoming identical. Combat is fast and deliberately unforgiving. Staying mobile is essential because enemies can quickly surround a player who tries to fight from one position. More than 30 weapons can appear throughout the adventure, complemented by upgrades that can significantly change the effectiveness of your equipment. The large arsenal keeps experimentation important, since the roguelike structure does not always provide exactly what you want. Learning how to make effective use of whatever equipment appears is consequently just as valuable as developing good aim. The game's gore system gives these battles much of their personality. Blood and enemy remains can persist around environments, leaving rooms increasingly covered in evidence of earlier encounters. It is excessive by design and fits the deliberately ridiculous tone exceptionally well. STRAFE rarely treats itself with complete seriousness, instead presenting its retro science-fiction world with exaggerated violence and an intentionally abrasive attitude. Combined with energetic music and a deliberately dated visual direction, the result has an identity that remains recognizable even among the crowded field of retro-inspired shooters. Procedural generation is simultaneously responsible for much of the replayability and some of the game's weaker moments. Randomized arrangements mean players cannot simply memorize an entire campaign and repeat the same optimal route indefinitely. You gradually learn individual mechanics, enemy behavior, environmental dangers, and room characteristics instead. The drawback is that randomly assembled stages cannot always provide the tightly controlled pacing of a completely handcrafted FPS campaign. Some runs naturally flow better than others, while unfavorable combinations can make particular attempts feel noticeably harsher. There is also considerably more to the package than completing the main sequence of four zones and their associated levels. New Game Plus and looping extend the challenge after players become comfortable with ordinary progression. STRAFE ZONE introduces daily leaderboard competition built around a single scoring opportunity, making every mistake potentially important. SPEED ZONE takes another approach by providing a weekly fixed seed that can be repeatedly practiced for faster completion times, while requiring players to eliminate most enemies rather than simply racing past everything. MURDER ZONE concentrates heavily on combat by challenging players to survive a sequence of rooms. These alternatives make good use of the fundamental shooting mechanics instead of merely duplicating the main campaign. Secrets provide another reason to carefully examine environments. STRAFE rewards curiosity and experimentation, and not every useful interaction is immediately explained. That sense of discovery works particularly well alongside the roguelike structure because knowledge becomes a form of permanent progression. Even after losing an entire run, understanding an enemy, weapon, hidden mechanic, or environmental feature makes the next attempt slightly more manageable. This helps soften the frustration of repeatedly starting over without removing the tension created by permanent death. Steam Deck compatibility is officially rated Playable rather than Verified. The game can therefore be played on Steam Deck, although Valve's Playable designation indicates that some aspects may require additional interaction or adjustment compared with titles carrying full Verified status. Its relatively straightforward FPS structure makes portable play appealing, particularly for shorter repeated runs, but players expecting a completely seamless handheld experience should keep the Playable classification in mind. STRAFE: Gold Edition ultimately works best for players who appreciate both classic high-speed shooters and the risk-reward structure of roguelikes. Anyone expecting a straightforward sequence of meticulously authored retro FPS levels may find the procedural construction and complete resets frustrating. Players willing to accept those systems will discover an energetic shooter where improvisation, movement, resource management, exploration, and mechanical improvement are constantly tested. The additional challenge modes and extensive weapon selection give the experience enough variety to encourage returning even after the initial novelty of its retro presentation has faded. STRAFE: Gold Edition is an entertaining and unusually committed fusion of frantic retro shooting and roguelike unpredictability. Its procedural design occasionally creates uneven pacing and its permanent-death structure will not suit everyone, but the responsive action, weapon variety, outrageous gore, hidden mechanics, alternate modes, and strong audiovisual personality give it substantial replay value. Rating: 7/10

Ну я естественно повёлся на то что Devolver издатель, но игра оказалась просто скучная.
