My childhood JRPG. Never finished it, but loved it as a kid, then picked it up on a whim here on Steam, and ended up playing through it as an adult. This game is something special, it has flaws, decently apparent ones at that, but it really just has a certain charm that will never let it me go, and I love it. The characters are by far the best part of this game. If you love getting immersed in characters, and to feel like you know them, this game is for you. Not to mention the AMAZING soundtrack, as well as the gameplay. PLAY THIS WITH A FRIEND, IF YOU CAN. There are some sections where they won't have a character to play, and will have to wait, but they are few and far between. In my experience, those sections go by quick, and the co-op otherwise adds so much, so I think it's 100% worth it. Overall, 9/10 JRPG, I love this game with all my heart.

Good game. Not a good port. Good thing I didn't even pay for it. Play the GameCube version.

I had a lot of fun playing this game with my sister as a kid. This port, however, desperately needs some QOL updates. The story is only notable for the voice acting. I just want to play Tales of the Abyss when I play Symphonia now, which is the same complaint I have for Tales of Vesperia despite its improved combat. It's fine for what it was, but way more basic of a JRPG than I remember.

I played this game THROUGH with as much as I could find on a single blind playthrough. I hit the casino big time, did optional dungeons and optional bosses. Again, as much as I could find because there was surely much to discover still but I didn't have the energy to go through both worlds after every story beat as I should have done. There are some branching story paths too but I stuck to what felt best for me. I never research a game beforehand or use walkthroughs to get some desired thing to happen. I don't even look through achievements beforehand, so completely blind. And let me tell you, I didn't really care for the start of the game. Protagonist was a bit of a ♥♥♥♥ and I didn't grow fond of him through the game. I liked many other characters and happenings but Lloyd I tolerated. When you play a single game for 110 hours, you still get some emotional attachment to some members or npcs, well at least I do. That's to do with the excellent writing and storytelling of Tales games, that only get more and more engaging with every game. Background, I have played all tales games from the start up to Symphonia so far in less than two years, so some experience. Minus the real Tale of Destiny 2 as it has never been released outside Japan, not even fan-translated. Excluding Tales of Berseria, that was the first. An impulse buy based on the kickassesness of the intro song. That has a special place in my heart, always. Apart from that I still think Tales of Eternia (Tales of Destiny 2 in the west, stupid naming) is the best so far, damn that pixel child made me cry so many times. I hope the upcoming remaster is good and they don't do it like Chrono trigger. Please, just a port of the ps1 original, maybe so that the pixel art upscales nicely. If an emulator can do it to 4K, I'm sure it can be done. WOW, sidetrack people. Maybe my review will be just glossing the Tales series and how you should play them. Even the so-called sequels don't sequalize the game they're based on and the games can be played in any order. Try the newest if you want to get in the series and then play older if you feel like it. The nature and the style of the story is always the same so you can can expect the other game to have similar quality and taste of storytelling. The game has a world, actually two, it's a Jrpg but not turn-based so you control your selected character in real time. If you want you can play with up to three friends on the same console or pc, yes, in battles. Haven't tried it but it has a possibility for it. Engaging story, good/excellent/whimsical/annoying/all kinds of characters. Easy to pick up, easy to learn and if you really want to go deep, very hard to put down. For this one, I did use Special K TSfix-modpack that smoothens the rough edges, literally and figuratively and has some quality of life-improvements. Not affecting the gameplay or experience, but the running of the game on modern hardware. I own all the games that have been published to pc minus the newest remasters, but still 5 games and older ones you CAN ACQUIRE. I got all of them on spring sale -26 and for the newest, Tales of Arise, I paid about 5€. They are cheap to boot, so do get and play one if you feel like it in the slightest. And lastly it took me 8 hours of continuous rolling to get 1000000 chips at the casino.

Symphonia was my first Tales when it came out on GameCube, and it left such an impression on me that to this day, Tales Of is my favorite series of all time. I think it was the first Tales that really formed what it became. A classic that I think every RPG fan should play. If you are a completionist like me, get ready to spend so much time on this game that you'll have every little detail memorized. :-) My only issues regarding the Steam port: >One of the achievements is still bugged 10 years later and it does not seem anyone is working on this game any longer to fix this. >There's an absolutely infuriating achievement from an already infuriating minigame.

Literally one of my favorite games of all time. Story is great and deep with rich characters. MANY improvements from the OG Gamecube discs (except the 30fps lock smh).

My absolute favorite game of all time. I played this back on its initial release on the Nintendo Gamecube when I was much younger, and its storyline was unbelievably formative for me. While I have heard of a number of bugs on the Steam version, I cannot recommend this game enough. If possible, I recommend playing it on another system but, since this goes on sale extremely regularly, I find owning it on Steam to be a very nice option if those consoles are not available to you. The game itself is a JRPG but, unlike many in the genre, features real time battles that aren't turned based. It's admittedly a bit dated compared to some more recent games in the series, even being outdone in gameplay by Tales of Vesperia, but I still find it far more engaging than a typical turn-based RPG. The main cast are incredibly well written, the dialogue is legitimately charming and funny, and while it contains a large number of clichés among the fantasy JRPG genre, the story has some great flow and genuine surprises to it.

Tales of symphonia was a pretty enjoyable game. Definitely worth the £6 I paid for it. It's older and clunky (it's like 22 years old), but it's very fun. The story is definitely where the game shines the most. Sylvarant and Tethella , the two worlds where humans and elves are persecuted, respectively. The way the characters interact with the two worlds is so interesting. It does go on for a bit too long later on in the game tho. Combat was ok, I usually just spammed attacks and abilities and blocked occasionally. Aged fairly well for an old game. The voice acting was also really good, there were so many great voice actors in this game, such as katsuyuki Konishi (Lloyd), Akio Otsuka (Regal) and Hideyuki Tanaka (mithos). There was little grinding needed, so the game was fairly easy. The character interactions were also very enjoyable, I especially liked the dynamic between regal and presea. A sister who is pained by the death of her sister and the man who killed said sister. I do wish the town's were a little larger and there were more side quests to be honest, but even without this, it was quite enjoyable. Some outdated mechanics in the game, but I won't blame it since it's an older games. 8.5/10
