For reference I have c++ in balatro and am a huge fan of the rogue-like genre The shortest way to put this is there are not enough levers to pull in terms of scoring. for the long answer there are a few points i would like to cover, please note this is strictly speaking from the standpoint of attempting diamond difficulty with all items enabled assuming you are going for the loopler achievement. As of writing this review I have every track beat diamond with all items enabled past the 12 round and completed to infinity. I also have every car beat on diamond on various tracks. Additionally I have posted top 10 on the daily. There are 3 main ways (12 run 4) to increase score in the game (honorary mention to the drift multiplier which becomes less relevant as it does not scale well) , and preferably you want some form of infinite scaling on them, though if you are just going for round 12 then you do not necessarily need this. I will not be discussing car upgrades which are random chosen from a pool of 3 , reset on part upgrade (parts start with 2 slots and can go up to 6) , and upgrading the modifiers (1-6) you get is also randomly selected for which slot it hits - obviously you can nut out and roll what you want first slot and slam gold into upgrading only that. Sometimes you can luck out and get something you need, but these are mainly a post 12 investment when you are making 1000s of gold. As such I will not be mentioning them again. These four are independent numbers so I have them separated since you are trying to perform some function of n1 x n2 x n3 as well as a separate n4 naturally if you max these all out your score will climb higher. N4 is a special use case- These are: 1. speed and boost (red). These are together because of the charms that increase top speed when you boost. You want uncapped speed because more loops is more score and more gate triggers. This will be incredibly relevant for a gate discussion later. Speed easily can hit hgih scientific notation, and in some cases on round 12 runs uncapped speed is great, though i its a bit harder to scale fast. ****THIS REQUIRES SOMETHING TO SCORE.**** 2. the purple mult gate specifically and only the purple mult gate in terms of relevance, YES you can scale off purchase / car upgrades or on repair but this is slow as all get out and irrelevant for the purpose of this discussion for the most part.(purple) The purple gate is the only way in the entire game to scale your purple global mult into relevant numbers. ****THIS REQUIRES SOMETHING TO SCORE.**** 3. flat/loop score which functionally encompasses everything else in the game (blue) This also encompasses looping. This is essentially chips in balatro, this is what you are leveraging the previous two points off of, without this you are not multiplying anything. Naturally anything that increases loop score or has scaling on this is amazing, for example the score gate which scales infinitely when passes vs the grave gate which only scales when upgraded. 4. Flat single score mult. There are two ways to get this in the game, the double gate, which increases the next single instance of score and only that, and the last gasp card which multiplies your current score on repair. Since these only are factored in for one instance but are incredibly relevant I feel the deserve their own designation. A very important special note is that these are S tier for trying to beat a 12 round run and ending there. Fuel is its own independent factor, you need fuel replenishment to last your entire fuel efficiency bar so you can actually loop without hemorrhaging hp. Freeze is essentially just an extender for this so it is not worth its own paragraph and can just be viewed as fuel. Based on the above the games becomes very formulaic, you need at least 2 of the above with fuel as soon as possible. Because of this and because of how little agency you have in the game you can often tell the game is over by round 3. Only roll fuel? you will loop and score nothing. Only roll speed / boost - same issue. Only roll "blue" you will run out of fuel and die before you can rectify it. This means that you are looking for incredibly specific gates or cards early, if you dont hit them you are done and its faster to reset then attempt a hail mary. I Specifically mention round 3 because this is the first guaranteed shop in the game where you can see specifically what you are getting with certainty. unlike balatro you do not get to engage with the shop every round which leads to a massive bottle neck. You can see what you are getting in terms of class, fuel card, all card pack, gate, charm ect, but you cannot see which one it is so you can easily low roll - shout out round 1 eternal hungry gate. Econ is also an issue in this game. As I mentioned above you have your first 100% shop round three. Lets take a look at econ - Round 1: base 10 gold (base doubled if boss) (+15 if gold car) Round 2: base 15 gold (base doubled if boss) (+15 if gold car) Round 3 you immediately enter shop. assuming you didnt skip / starting capital or hit a free lottery ticket you are looking at 25 - 50 gold on any car besides gold car, 80 if gold car. There is no baseline bonus to saving money like balatro, you have to have to randomly find the card that gives interest. You open the shop and see Fuel gates are 12 gold, a pack is 10,a chain gate is 18, a purple gate is 30, and the overdrive gate is 36 you cannot afford to reroll this shop and in a best case scenario you have to lock an option you really want, worst case you rolled lemons on gates like mirror, lucky conversion, brake or drifting. Shop rerolls are 5 gold baseline, this being baseline 10% when the costs are so high on relevant gates is brutal. In a diamond difficulty all items on run the nuts are a chain gate with a double gate immediately behind it with some source of fuel and speed with the lasp gasp card. the score gate also goes crazy if you get it. Overall I feel like this game falls into the trap that gambonanza did where a lot of the items are largely trash and you are looking for very specific s / a tier ones. This results in the game feeling like gambling rather then actually feeling like an engaging experience. Its fun for a few hours but beyond hour 5 it is pure tedium.

TLDR: It's a 6.5 or 7 out of 10, decent little time waster, but doesn't hold my attention like Balatro does. This is a fun little game, worth the price of 10 bucks for sure, but doesn't really have the same replay value as other games. I'm writing this review around level 30 and have already reached infinity. Doing so doesn't really feel rewarding, since it's just getting to track 50. And if you don't have a ramping build by track 15 or so, you lose. Game also suffers from both too little and too much content. There should be either 2 more tracks per section for 16 total, or 3 "acts" for 18 total tracks before challenging infinity. Difficulty and cars feel lacking. By level 15 or so, I hit infinity and then power leveled my way to 30 or so when I write this review. There should be at least 2 or 3 more car bodies to choose from. And at least 1 more difficulty level, probably more. On the too much content side however, there are just way too many gates that unlock and feel more like a bloat mechanic to make you reroll the shop more often. I know there's a loadout feature to help tailor the run you want to do, but when I'm looking for a boost gate and all I find are mirrors and others that aren't helpful, it really makes me want to play a fresh account again. Maybe I missed this as well, but none of the mechanics are explained very well. Refuel efficiency isn't ever explained and modifiers to it don't help understand how or why it drains and how to stop it. It's mostly a "figure it out" type of game, which is fine most of the time, but I would like an explanation for some of the more obscure mechanics. I will continue to play on and off. Game kind of feels like a group project where 70% of the game was done, everyone forgot about it and then they scrambled last minute to add the other 30% so it was complete. Worth the 10 bucks in my opinion, but doesn't hold me like Balatro or STS did.

I don't know what exactly this game wants to be and I'm not sure it does either. The main game consists of 12 rounds, the first of which lasts about 10 seconds and the last of which might take up to a minute. All told a run lasts maybe 10-15 minutes and depending on the difficulty level your choices might matter considerably or the game will essentially win itself. In either case it's such a short duration that you don't really have the time to assemble any kind of distinct* build. So one would assume that the meat of the game lies in the endless mode, where you have access to a lot more money and upgrades over time. The problem here is that with exponentially scaling score requirements, the rounds which previously lasted a minute +/- can suddenly last 5-20 minutes each, depending on how quickly you score and how much longevity you've built yourself. At which point the game effectively becomes an idler, because there's nothing you can do while a round is playing out. Which is fine, if that's what you're looking for, but the game doesn't really advertise itself as such. I ended up ALT+Tabbing and/or scrolling on my phone quite a lot, which isn't typically what I want while I'm supposedly 'playing' a game. I also end up muting the game because the constant stream of sound effects is comparable to standing in the middle of the slot machine section of a casino, I would imagine. *It's also worth noting that the game doesn't really have distinct builds in a way that matters. Yes, the combination of parts you buy and how you implement them can vary dramatically between different cars and maps, but the actual gameplay part is identical no matter what. That is to say, you stare at the screen while the numbers go up. There's a solid foundation here and it's clear that the presentation had a lot of thought put into it. But I don't really know what type of gamer it's supposed to appeal to. It doesn't have enough depth or variability to work well as a roguelite and it has too much going on to be a pure idler.

Its a good game but some of the design theory makes no sense. Like why am I making a super ultra fast car, then you start bloating my Gates with things like "IF IN THIS PRESET ZONE FOR MULTIPLE SECONDS" effects, I have triggered this style of gate like 2 times in totality. Also the fact that drifting just straight up turns off after enough speed, really makes no sense.

It's a fun little game... for a while. It's built a lot like Balatro in the way that you gain little bonuses to gain more points, and you unlock harder tracks to run. Aside from that, I consider it an auto-battler. You make a couple of choices, then the game plays itself. Is it worth buying? Yeah it was fun... But I can't honestly reccomend it to others. Stick to the demo, you'll get the same thing.

I tried sticking with it but the longer I play, the less I like it. The later difficulties are really unfun and RNG heavy, boiling down to "did you run into an event that kills your run" or "did you find that one specific card that fits with this car on the first two nodes?" The fact that a LOT of the unlocks depend on each other and their unlock order borders on nonsense, just made me feel like I wasted my time grinding the tracks and cards, because these unlocks feel like homework so you can actually even try half of the builds, as a lot of them are missing key pieces. There's also no mute on background and the UI is ironically slooooooooooow. I'd wait like a year before buying, the devs here need to figure out and iron out the experience, right now all tracks feel the same and higher difficulties are just a slots machine. "Oh, look, you found the card you wanted! But you're playing on the harder difficulty so now it's weaker! Because that MUST be fun. Also, it's 'unstable' which means you have another RNG roll and you can lose it!" Come on. That barely feels like game design at this point. If you want to play for two hours, it's worth it, if you're aiming at doing "everything" and getting the completion marks, it's not. For me, it was not.

Got this game because of a Northerlion Clip I have seen and I like Balatro. No regrets, really fun, great work!
