Hi everybody. Even in 2026 Sims 3 is more than decent game, if you just want to relax with natural and intuitive play without any contest. Enjoy! :-)

Its a good game, not as in depth simulation wise as the sims 2, but this entry has a fully connected open world, meaning your sim leaves their front door and physically commutes to the location of where they are headed, whether that be to work, the store, or to visit a neigbour friend etc. It is very neat. DLC offered is also unique (though it can be kind of awkward to have supernatural creatures running around the city so maybe turn that off unless you wish to engage with it). That being said technology-wise, time has not been kind to this game, it is from 2009 runs in 32 bit and tends to have crashing issues the longer your world is simulated. I put close to 100 hours (whatever my play time says) on a single world and family, only for the world to become so unstable that frequent saving is required and crashes could happen at literally any time (from 5 mins post launch to more than an hour, there is no consistency). Its a shame because this game has a lot that 2 and 4 lack, even just vibes wise. Now that 1+2 have been saved from abandonware hell, I suggest E.A take a look at patching The Sims 3

i really loved playing the sims3, the gameplay was fun, i enjoyed making familys and watching them mess about. however, after i downloaded the pets DLC for this game, i kept getting an "a serious error" which made the game impossible to access or even play my past sim familys, or even make new games with new sims. i love this game, but i havent been able to play it in months. and ive finally had enough with trying to fix it and nothing happening. would i say get this game? yes! its good! would i say im very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrated that i cant play the game or dlcs i bought? yes.

This is my favorite game of all time. I first fell in love with it a long time ago when I was a teen at my cousin’s house and she was playing it. I begged my parents for it and since I was doing well in school, got it for me. Since then I’ve been hooked. Sure, this is my first game of the franchise, and I’ll play 1 and 2 at some point (I own them on the ea store, but ea doesn’t like Linux which is what I switched my computers to after windows glitched and deleted all my files 🙃 so I’ll have to rebuy them here on steam) and have put countless hours into 4; 3 is the one I come back to the most. I was so happy to find out it actually works on the Steamdeck with only a tiny bit of tweaking the control settings. Does it have bugs? Yes. Does it crash? Yes, but not that often. Just yesterday I was building a house and the game crashed when I recolored a rug. Lost all of my build progress. So, lesson learned, save often. And for some odd reason lately my sim finishes writing a book, but doesn’t actually finish it, the game says she has, but it’s still on the computer with the “continue” and “scrap” options. I have to scrap the books, because she just won’t finish them. I wonder if it has something to do with the firefighter active career (her husband is a firefighter), more testing needs to be done on my part. But despite the bugs and crashes, it’s still a really rich game with countless hours on content. Heck, I’ve been playing since 2010 and I still haven’t done everything in the base game yet. I do also recommend getting seasons, generations, and late night. Seasons makes the game way more cozy with weather. There’s just something about rain in a video game that makes me want to curl up with a nice hot cup of coffee… and I’m a tea drinker 🤣. Generations adds way more to child and up life states (not sure if toddlers or babies got anything, they’re always being ignored by the developers). Although, when a sim is born they can receive a doll in the mail… I guess that’s something. (The doll can turn into an imaginary friend btw, and it’s a bit creepy). If you like playing with families like I do, then you’re gonna want to pick up this pack. Kids get stuff to do other than homework. Late night is my final recommend of the expansions. I personally love watching my sims become famous and do celebrity things. It also comes with vampires (hold the sparkles), butlers, high rise buildings and apartments, bands, and more. I love the world it comes with, I just wish there were more empty lots I could build on. I like building mansions for my uber rich sims. But I also like building apartment buildings as well and recently figured out the cheats to make mine functional. I don’t just have rose colored glasses for this game, I’m still an active player. I love it, bugs and all.

Base game, no expansions. I played a single-Sim family from young adult through to death of old age. It's a chill game with a real sense of progression. Nothing much pressures you. Holding down a job and staying alive is easy, and old age is what gets you in the end. But you're always moving toward something. The wish system is what carries it. You pick a lifetime wish (mine was Chess Legend) and along the way the game keeps handing you smaller ones: win a ranked chess match, get a raise. They aren't busywork. They give you ideas of what to work toward when you don't have a plan of your own, and ticking them off is more satisfying than it sounds. The generational structure is the other draw. Sims have kids, get old and die, and the game carries on with the next one. You can set the total lifespan and tune each life stage separately in the options, which is really nice. 90 days felt too short, so I bumped adulthood from 21 to 39 days for a 108-day life. What I don't like is SimPoints. A whole second currency for store items, bought with real money or earned by watching sponsor videos, and it wants you signed into an EA account. You can ignore it and nothing breaks, but it's in your face constantly. I'd rather everything just ran on simoleons. Some mechanics are needlessly opaque. A chess table wouldn't take chairs on both ends until I moved it away from the walls, even though there was clearly room. And the "become a business partner" wish points you at the real estate option on the computer, which is the wrong thing entirely. That one's for buying a venue outright. You actually open the map, click the business and pick "Become Business Partner". Worse, the option doesn't appear at all until you can already afford it, so with no money you see nothing and no hint of what you're missing. You end up on the wiki looking up prices. In the base game the cheapest are the Diner at §6,000, and the Bookstore and Grocery at §7,000 each. Technically it runs great. Not a single crash. Two small annoyances: quitting takes two steps, selecting Quit from the tray and then pressing Stop in Steam, and a moodlet from digging through the trash got stuck at 10 minutes remaining and never expired. Recommended if you want a low-pressure game you can sink generations into, and you don't mind a few opaque mechanics and a storefront you'll spend the whole time ignoring.

one of the most played games of my childhood, got it during release back in the summer of 2009 when i was 10 years old. i still remember those sleepless nights playing on the family computer. i have that same physical copy back at my parents' house. i loved this game as a kid, and i love it now at 27 years old, but the buyout went through, so i don't recommend it buying it right now.
