Tidy Mart is a cozy organization game where you restore order to various retail environments, ranging from tiny corner shops to massive supermarkets. Your task is to take products that are spawned in a massive pile at the center of the room at the start of the level and neatly arrange them on shelves. You can carry multiple items in a basket, and each level introduces a new helpful ability, such as highlighting all unplaced products matching the item you are currently holding or a magnet ability that pulls all items of that type as long as they fit into your basket. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792205266 At launch, the game was designed with the idea of "free placement" in mind, meaning that you could theoretically place products anywhere, as long as each shelf contained only one type of item. In practice, though, this was a frustrating design flaw that prevented levels from being completed even when everything was perfectly organized. The game secretly expected a specific placement configuration (certain products on specific shelves, for example, bigger cans on bottom shelves) but offered zero hints on how to achieve that, plus this placement was inconsistent across levels. Players were left guessing how to fit items onto shelves of varying sizes. Imagine meticulously spending hours placing thousands of products, only to find the level won't complete, with no easy way to swap shelf contents and no clue what the game actually wants from you. Unsurprisingly, this led to massive, well-justified backlash from the community, but fortunately, the developers listened. An update released on August 24 completely overhauled this mechanic by adding clear labels to the shelves, showing you exactly where items belong. For those who still prefer the old, trial-and-error approach, the original "free placement" mode remains accessible from the levels map. Additionally, a frustrating bug that caused products to spawn outside the level boundaries, essentially blocking level completion and further game progress for many players, also appears to have been resolved in this same update. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792205163 Despite its rough launch, Tidy Mart is now in a fairly stable state, though some noticeable issues linger. For one, placing two different products of the same type on one shelf often bugs out, since the game fails to recognize edge or middle spots as valid placement points. The only current workaround is removing all products and placing them once again, in order, from one side to the other, which becomes tedious when dealing with dozens of items already placed on that shelf. Even after the labels update, there are still many other issues to fix, such as incorrect labels or wrong quantities. Furthermore, some products are almost identical, with only their brand being slightly different, making it difficult to know exactly which product goes where, despite the new labeling system. The game currently features 5 levels, ranging from 500 to 15000 products, which makes the latter levels extremely tedious and unnecessarily long. The basket size makes the gameplay in these levels even worse, as its capacity is not only extremely small but also highly inconsistent. For example, you might be able to pick up 16 bottles of oil or wine, but only 5 small packages of chips or 2 little cans of biscuits. Some products, like fruits, veggies, or meat, are often limited to just 1 per basket. This means you have to run back and forth through the whole store dozens of times just to place these items on their corresponding racks. While these new abilities are very useful outside of these cases, their cooldown is pretty horrendous (around 1 minute), which makes you wait a long time until you can use them again. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792205213 This back-and-forth becomes especially frustrating in the last level in particular. It features a rather messy arrangement where the same product is spread over several different racks in different corners of the shop. Other racks contain shelves with mixed products that don't necessarily fit together, or at least it's not something you would ever see in a real supermarket. To make matters worse in this fifth level, not all products even have dedicated space on the shelves. You are forced to use really wacky workarounds, such as stacking meat over the designed amount just to make some space to fit in 2 boxes of cheese, which is necessary so that you can fit some extra wine bottles (that seem to be erroneously spawned and do not have a designated shelf) where the cheese was supposed to be placed. The developers' swift updates moved the game much closer to the relaxing experience it was meant to be. However, the remaining number of issues (both technical and design-related) prevent me from recommending the game in its current state. Given time, I expect these to be ironed out, finally delivering that satisfying tidy-up feeling. On the plus side, the game is fairly affordable. 💜 If you like this review, please consider following Lilly's Corner Curator page 🌸 Website

I would love to give this a good review, but at this point i still can not. I love the idea with the signs that is really good, but on the other hand i am not willing to put stuff into shelves just to take everything out at the end because the items doesn't fit. If this is a bug i will not continue this game until this got fixed, i am sorry. All in all it is a good game, but these things annoy the hell out of me and it stops being chill and cozy alltogether for me. once this is getting fixed i will pick up the game and might be willing to give a good review but not how it is now.

The game is another entry in the tidy genre, which is characterized by a big pile of mess that you have to organize by placing items on shelves. There have already been several games copying the original formula, some good and some bad, but innovation is necessary. However, we have become so accustomed to the established mechanics, which are generally decent, that any change is not always received well. Progression is a bit different because you go through several stages and stores that you need to organize, starting with a small kiosk and eventually moving on to larger supermarkets. The idea is familiar: you grab items from a pile and place them on shelves. You can carry several items regardless of their type, but the game adds a basket that is supposed to explain how you can carry so many things at once. The idea is fair, but it ultimately makes the experience worse. Instead of having invisible pockets that can store anything, the basket has limited space that fills up differently depending on the size of the objects. Something large can fill the basket after only two items, forcing you to run back and forth much more often. Second, while items are automatically stacked inside the basket, those in the front obscure the ones in the back. If you turn the basket option off, you can carry more items (eight maximum) and immediately see exactly what you are carrying. There are tags above the shelves that show what type of item should go there and how many copies are needed, but the tags are tiny. The problem is that items come in several variations with very small differences, such as olive oil bottles with slightly brighter or darker necks. There are also situations where colorblind players may have trouble distinguishing between green and red, or blue and purple. The differences are visible when you are holding an item, but not when you are looking at the tiny shelf tags. Ironically, though, the tags end up saving the organizing experience, which is not particularly good because the game is missing many of the usual quality of life features. As always, items can be placed anywhere, but since shelves come in different sizes, you may not have enough space to fill a shelf with all of the same items. For example, if you place a bottle that comes in a stack of 16 into a spot intended for dog food that comes in a stack of 6, you can run out of space after only a couple of bottles because they are larger and take up more room. The worst design choice is that the game allows you to do this in the first place. Not only that, but it also allows you to mix completely different types of items on the same shelf. You can simply grab random items from a pile and place them on a single shelf without any indication that they do not belong there. You are only stopped when you run out of space and need to either stack items on top of each other or place them in the front row. At that point, the item currently in your hand will turn red, which is something that should have happened when you first tried to add different items together. The game also refuses to let you stack items of the same type but different colors, which is another indication that something has been placed incorrectly. This can actually work in your favor if you fill the bottom rows and the back of the shelves first, as this prevents accidental placement of the wrong items. That is another reason why the tags are useful. At least you know where each type of item belongs, while the item in your hand shows how many copies of that item you have, allowing you to quickly compare the number with the one shown on the shelf tag. Also, even though a tag may show a specific color, placement does not matter that much for individual types. If you have a shelf reserved for three types of chips, each marked with its own tag, you can easily place all the blue chips under the red tag and still see the sparkle indicating that the shelf is complete. The only thing that really matters is that the items are all the same, meaning you cannot have red chips mixed in with blue chips on the same shelf. The tags and the option to disable the basket were not originally included in the game and were only added recently. Both additions make the experience considerably better, which says quite a lot about the original design. Powers are another vital element of the genre. Here, you gain a new power each time you complete a stage. This approach is completely fine, but the powers themselves are not particularly exciting. Sprinting and stretching are just there to push the number of powers up to four, while vision mode, which highlights objects matching the one currently in your hands, and magnet that pulls items to you, are actually useful. In short, once I got accustomed to the game's mechanics, I started enjoying myself much more. Another huge plus is that there are no silly achievements requiring you to complete an entire stage without using powers, which would only waste your time. There is only one speedrunning achievement, and it is easy enough to complete on the first stage. That lasted until the final fifth stage, which completely kills the fun and really highlights what can go wrong when these otherwise tidy games aren't executed properly. Because of that alone, I think it deserves a "Not Recommended" rating. The first major issue is the placement of the tags. They are scattered all over the place, with some parts of an item located on one shelf while the rest are placed on a completely different shelf, often far away from where you initially found it. The "vision" power loses its usefulness. It has a range limitation and doesn't reveal items on the other side of the store. As a result, you often waste the ability, then have to wait for the cooldown while moving closer before you can use it again just to locate the remaining items. Visibility is another problem. The vision highlight becomes extremely difficult, if not impossible, to see in brightly lit stores or when items have lots of colors, making an already frustrating mechanic even worse. Finally, you don't get any upgrades to your powers or even an increased carrying capacity for the final stage. This completely ruins the experience because the number of items you need to collect is enormous, while most of the powers become practically useless. The magnet is really the only one that remains consistently useful. Overall, the final stage feels unnecessarily tedious and turns what was a neat, satisfying experience into a frustrating one.

I love this game so much BUT what really chaps my ass is the carry system. Why can I only carry one package of chicken at a time? Why can I carry 8 boxes of cereal but only 4 cans of soda? IT MAKES NO SENSE. 9/10 - it would be 10/10 if I could carry things like a normal person, or at least fill the basket.

I think this game is pretty good now after the recent update so you actually know where you're supposed to put everything, since at some points it was really annoying to find the locations on your own.. since some things didn't fit right on some shelves etc. there was also a bunch of bugs I've noticed where when you picked up some items and dropped them where the item would "disappear" i thought but it was actually just under the floor where you had to use Q to use the magnet skill to actually get the item... there were also moments where the open/closed sign didn't work to click on. After the update how ever I haven't had as many issues and it's so much nicer and more fun in my opinion as i was wanting a totally brain dead game where i just chilled out and put stuff on shelves. The bugs before I've not noticed at all now and I've tried the game maybe 2 hours or so after. I would love this to get a co-op option as I think it would be so so much fun with friends :3 TLDR: update made game better, i think it's worth the 5$ for sure would be great with co-op <3

You know, there's really nothing crazy wrong with the game, but there is ONE thing that absolutely made me so angry I had to just uninstall the game and quit once I got to the fourth store. When you place things down, in label mode at least, sometimes all the products don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fit and you have to take everything off the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shelf to try and fix it. Oh my god it's rage inducing.
