Train Sim World 2020: LIRR M3 EMU Loco

1 / 8

Займитесь перевозками пассажиров по линии Long Island Rail Road в районе Нью-Йорка, управляя классическим электропоездом серии M3 для Train Sim World!

So I have a lot to say about this train here. First off I will start by saying the model is really nice and I think the team did a great job on that. Secondly the handling is very nice and the train acts as it should. So now I come to the negatives and there are A LOT. Firstly, the REUSED M7 sounds... seriously? The M7 door sounds which sound literally zero like the M3 doors were used for some reason. They recycled the same synthetic M7 horn which is a shame and it's missing the iconic M3 brake release sound. I would be a bit more lenient if Fan Railer didn't have a full mod pack with 100% accurate sounds in there for the M3 and even if DTG didn't use that then YouTube?!? I've also had issues with random penalty dumps caused by the ATC for no apparent reason. Have had that issue three times now. Also having a recurring issue that the headlights do not illuminate from the inside of the train and it's especially harder to see in the tunnels or at night. Another issue is the doors not opening. I've toggled them to open but they just don't and repeat the same thing over and over. There is also clear lack of correct information used to make the scenarios. 4 car trains are NEVER a thing on the LIRR. Track routings in Jamaica and also the LIC full of electric trains is just fake. Additionally, in one scenario you are heading to Port Jefferson. Third rail ends in Huntington. That is not even remotely possible to do! Now onto possibly my biggest gripe of this DLC right next to the sounds: SERVICE MODE. A typical TSW loco DLC would come with around 20 extra services give or take. Caltrain MP36 came with none only because the route had all the services already. The BR 182 came with about 60 services for the Rapid Transit route which until then was extremely similar to LIRR. They both had one loco, really poor signalling implementation and not many services. Luckily for RT got the 182 and several core updates including an accurate signalling system and many new services. The absolute BIGGEST LIRR complaint is the lack in services and the M3 brought the perfect opportunity to fix that but it didn't. No new services, no core fixes, no signal updates, nothing. That was extremely disappointing to say the least. Had the M3 brought those things, I would've been much more satisfied with it but it absolutely did not and it's a real shame. I want to love this DLC but I can't. Not until certain fixes come out at least. It is a pleasant drive but the negatives outweigh the positives by many and it's just unacceptable. I'm hoping this is a wakeup call to DTG and they will fix their mistakes.

(This review is subject to change in the future) Review: Final score for now (6.0) Just bought the M3, played around for and hour or more and what i found was astonishing First off lets talk about the Manual wait there isn't a manual.... (off to a bad start) Scenarios: 3 Scenarios adding only up to 85min!! Timetables: A wide variety of timetables In cab is nicely detailed, reused M7 sounds and a nice Alerter along with it. First scenario along with the other 3s proved glitchy as the door panel stopped functioning! Not just that the master key would not be removed and the game ended up crashing! Changing car lengths is a nice addition to the game and i hope to see it in the future! :) Please wait for a sale to pick up this item (Update) The hidden manual nor tutorial in game tell you, you must be on the brake setting 5 or more to open or close the doors not just that Passengers on board can block exit so you may have to use ctrl+0 if stuck! (Update) whenever you walk along the M3 there is a really choppy loop :/ Another pro: this train will bring Variety to Lirr! (update) Wait for a sale!

Take some of these reviews with a grain of salt. It doesn't afford a bad review if the reviewer doesn't understand something. + Adds to LIRR as a whole Sounds decent Looks decent ATC functionality - No "new" services, but that was announced a while back - not a revelation No shine of the sides of multiple unit (or enough for my liking) No tutorial... again Again the pros outweigh the cons for me so far. It brings up LIRR a notch for gameplay. The door functionality, you've just got to do it correctly, as pointed out by some friends and folks. A manual may help these misunderstood things, then again maybe not. The people standing in the aisles isnt new to this instance, its been around before the M3. Frames seem same as before, LIRR is a heavy route to begin with. Max brake position before you - move reverser ANY direction - open doors with console (not tab) If you want a quick look... https://youtu.be/8x1HJ1sXFfM I like it. 8/10

(This review is subject to change contingent upon updates) One thing I want to be clear as a disclaimer, the only experience I have had with the actual Long Island Rail Road Budd M3 EMU is having rode them only a few times as a passenger within the last few years. Presentation: From the outside of the Budd M3, the exteriors are well done in general with the details To start regarding the passenger cabin, things at first look in order. One of the issues is taking a look at is at the first row of seats across from the drivers cab, the leg space between the wall and the seats that there is barely and space at all, let alone how can someone comfortably get to the window seat without having to either walk on the seat itself. To make matters worse, the front row seats is right next to the door control panels controlling the exterior doors on that side of the train. Will come back to the door control panels in the review. Another issue that I notice is after a few stations regardless of service mode with the timetable or a scenario, there are passengers that are just standing in the areas of the doors ranging from an individual passenger to groups of passengers. It would be fine if it is meant to simulate people stranding if there is no seats left and if passengers are standing in the aisle's, but this passenger behavior of passengers standing in the door area despite having both seats available or passengers don't stand in the aisle in TSW. Upon entering the driver's cab, this is an area I can't really speak on personally having not been inside the actual Budd M3 engineer's cab in relation to accuracy of the actual cab in real life. What I can say is the engineer's cabin does seem quite tight regarding space inside. One of the things that I do notice that becomes apparent is the door control panel inside the driver's cab looks quite low quality compared to other parts of the cab which is also realized that the door control panel on the other side also appears of low quality. Taking a look at the M3, the lighting does seem off a night. While not really notable while inside of the passenger cabin, It is more noticeable on the outside. For example, when I pan the camera in free mode, going past one coach, I can't see the headlights that should be seen from beyond the front of the train. Yet at the same time, I can see the passenger interior light just fine. Also, some on the reflections inside the front window is showing reflections that shouldn't be seen. For example, when I am driving a train and have another train approaching from the left side going towards the same direction as the train I am in, how does the reflection of the the train from behind on the left side is somehow showing the reflections of the headlights despite how that is impossible for the headlights of that train from behind to travel through a the engineer's cab door unless the door was open which in that case the I can see the headlights of that train seen. Sounds: Some things does stand out off the bat. For starters, it seems that some sounds have been recycled from the Bombardier M7. For example, when I am listening to the doors opening or closing, I hear the same door propulsion from the Bombardier M7 despite being a Budd M3. The M3 had fundamentally different for the passenger doors. In the M7, there is one wide door per each door compared to the M3 having two doors per door. With the doors, the M7 door motor gives off a unique door sound is both a louder and distinct from the M3's doors motors being more quiet and slower than the Bombardier M7 door opening and closings. In addition to the doors, there is also the matter of the horns used on the Budd M3. Just because the Budd M3 Horns sound similar to the Bombardier M7 horns, that does not mean that they are the same horns. Another thing is when the Budd M3 is accelerating or decelerating, I hear similar sounds to the Bombardier M7 sounds with the exception of the M7 sounds gives off when giving the train power going forward. With regards to the passenger interior, I am glad that there is the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation. Air Conditioning) sounds. However, when I am a passenger moving between coaches in TSW, there seems to be a strange cut between the sounds of the coaches when moving to another car. It is especially noticeable in the short space between the each car. the same occurs also moving along the exterior of the train either on the platform at stations or walking along the tracks. In real life, I would imaging that if moving between passenger cars through the interior doors, the sounds wouldn't just cut off within the vestibule and then resume right away in the next passenger car's passenger cabin. Gameplay As mentioned at the beginning of the review, my only experience with the Long Island Rail Road Budd M3 EMU is as a passenger a few times. Having said that, I can't really comment on the accuracy regarding the actually Budd M3's actual performance in real life ranging from the braking, acceleration, and other specs. What I can say which can be answered by someone who has driven an actual Budd M3 in a form of a question. Does the Long Island Rail Road Budd M3 have the same specs such as acceleration, braking, power, and ect..? From the representation in TSW, it seems they have the same specs. What I can say for the startup procedure is the same and the M7 Mentioned earlier with the door control panel, there seems to be issues with the door control panel with several users. At times, the door control panel does not work despite following the steps which I have no doubt players have sent reports to DTG about the issue. Mentioned earlier with having the front row passengers seats on the left side of the aisle barely any legspace, this creates an issue with the player cannot reach the left door control panel and had to try to get the cursor to each the right positions regarding the orders of operations in opening and closing the doors for the passengers. The question is then asked "what about using the UI to open the door?" to answer that question, yes you can use the UI menu to open and close the doors. This however prevent from doing an accurate operation pertaining to the doors. Moving on from the Doors, there is the variety of M3 and M7 services available in service mode. However, the number of total services has not changed prior to the Budd M3 DLC. It was a nice addition to choosing the services based on the amount of cars on the train which I would like to see done in other past and future dlcs. Given the number of services has not changed, for a route that boast about being the busiest commuter railroad in the united states, the representation seem extremely lifeless compared to the the real Life weekday, weekend, holiday, or the pandemic schedules the Long Island Rail Road is currently on.. This is more noticeable in service mode. Conclusion and Final Thoughts. To start off, I want to be clear, I was looking forward to the Long Island Rail Road Budd M3 DLC, having said that, there is issues that prevent it from being a better DLC. from appearances with the exception of the Front Row sear issues to the left door control panel, it looks great and accurate from what I see. However, cannot deny the issues mentioned earlier throughout the review. While I cannot speak for others, for me, I wanted the M3 DLC to added more rail traffic the TSW LIRR route but still remains the same with the addition to the M3 DLC. This DLC is the first time I have noticed that there isn't a Manual provided by DTG compared to previous dlcs. Also the matter regarding resued sounds from the M7 does not help the dlc and can come off as a lazy decision to the consumers. If future DLCs are gonna be treated this way in relation to quality, it will turn away from other customers down the line. These are just my thoughs and opinions for this review. Will update this review if things change.

Ever since the M3 was announced on the 24th April, I have been extremely hyped for it to release, but has it lived up to it's hype? The M3 comes with everything you'd expect from a loco DLC: a 10 minute long tutorial with a simulated emergency stop; 3 scenarios totalling 85 minutes in length and service mode. The Scenarios The DLC's 3 scenarios aren't necessarily the longest or most complex scenarios in Train Sim World, with the first scenario having you do a simple 20 minute run with only 2 passenger pickups (1 at the start and end). The 2nd scenario involves some switching action in order to assemble a train. And then there's the last one - not too much to say about it really. Also, all of the existing M7 scenarios now have M3 AI trains in too. Service Mode This DLC doesn't add any new services into service mode, only substituting the M3 into the already existing M7 service mode timetable. With the DLC, there was an update to the LIRR, splitting services into 6, 8 and 10 car services (you can set this using the switch livery menu). The M3 also has this, with 6, 8 and 10 car selections also available. The substitution also works with the AI, with each AI having a 50/50 chance of spawning as an M3 or M7 unit. Pros and Cons Pros [*] The M3 is highly detailed, with great textures. [*] The sounds are fairly accurate (I haven't experienced the trains irl, I have only watched countless hours of videos) [*] It drives really nicely - it's a little slow to get going as in real life, with plenty of stopping power. [*] The traction motors sound VERY nice - while you can't hear them inside, you can outside and they sound great. [*] The head sway feel very realistic of a 40 year old train - it's quite bouncy XD Cons [*] A number of the sounds are re-used from the M7, with the door closing bell being re-used from the NEC's Amfleets [*] At night, the cab stays fairly illuminated even with the cab door closed, so you don't ever have a truly dark cab at night. [*] There's a small bug (I think) when using max. braking that the penalty light shows up - doesn't effect you at all, and I am sure it will be fixed. [*] It would have been nicer to have some longer scenarios, but it doesn't ruin the game play. [*] It would have also been nice to have some extra services, but it again doesn't ruin the game play. Conclusion My rating for the M3: 8/10 Overall, yes, I think the M3 did live up to it's hype. Like with many things in life, there is room for some improvement, but not much because this is a very good train. I could see myself and many others spending hours driving this train up and down the LIRR and on it's several branches. I would have given it a perfect 10/10, but I think it just misses the mark when it comes to some of the re-used sounds, the short scenarios and lack of new services. (Realistically, I would have given it an 7/10 normally for that, but I have been generous with my scoring due to the current events and them all working from home)

The M3 is a addition to the Long Island Rail Road besides the M7 on the route. Glad to have this EMU on the LIRR route. As expected from any train/loco DLC, 3 scenarios and a training modules. By far, I do like driving the unit but there are some bugs but Dovetail would at some point get to fix them. Pros: +The detail of the model is great with everything on the M3. +It does have great physics, it does accelerate nicely and stops very fast. +It has good ATC. +You can't hear the traction motors while inside the cab. It also has HVAC sounds which can be mostly be heard. +Another train to bring to Long Island Rail Road. +3 scenarios with a hour and a half of playtime. Cons: -The doors closing sounds are similar to the ones on the Amfleet stock. Also, the horn and door sliding sounds are taken from the M7. -The HVAC can be heard from another M3 and also can cut off the HVAC sounds on your train if one sometimes passes. You have to use a external camera to fix this problem. -No extra services added but it will use 181 existing services provided with the route. -Sometimes ATC will randomly put on penalty brakes even you're not doing anything wrong. -ATC penalty light will appear while between 80% and max brake. -The horn can be heard louder with the windows closed and quieter with the windows open. -The brakes needs to be at least 50% in order to open and close the doors. -The passenger section lights appear on the cab regardless if the door is being open or closed. Can be easily seen at night. -The announcement article and newsletter did had screenshots of a working speedometer on the left side of the cab. It is not functional on the playable version but I tried every intention of turning it on. Despite the bugs this train has, I still would give it 7/10, I do have some gameplay footage of this on YouTube so a playlist link to my videos featuring this train will be below. I always try to take my grain of salt when it comes with Dovetail stuff. I would recommend waiting for a sale to come. If you like Long Island Rail Road or retro American EMU's in general, I would recommend this any way regardless of the price. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLFWmA-38s1DtgRxQwqntOtrEoN8jN9RL - Note that some videos aren't available yet due to I have some scheduled to be published later on.
