As a Long Islander I've always wanted a LIRR DLC. I feared that DTG would butcher it, but they actually did a pretty good job. I'm very impressed so far. Map may look short, but all of the significant parts are included and it gives you a nice look at the LIRR. Unfortunately, my home station of Ronkonkoma wasn't included. This is what I think of the DLC so far. Note that this is for the initial release - there may be more patches in the future. Pros: -Tutorial actually works and has a voiceover -Real services used; no more fake services like in the Amtrak NEC DLC -Penn Station lighting is far better -Tunnels have lighting, no more complete darkness. If you ride as a passenger you can actually see them zoom by like they do IRL -Trackwork is accurate for the most part -ASC works great (the boxes with the speeds in them). If you slow down while it yells at you, it doesn't try to punish you, which makes it far less annoying. -Alerter works great -Horn works great -M7 motor sounds are mostly accurate as well as the doors opening and closing -Stations look great overall -Accurate door control -Sequence for setting up the M7; see the manual for how to do this properly. -Throttle is easy to work with; it allows you to put it into Idle/Cruise easily and also other positions -Marker lights work, you just have to go to the back and turn them on manually -You can get up to speeds of 80 MPH on the mainline -Realistic motor cutout when theres no third rail in certain spots (like grade xings, switches, etc.) -You can put the wiper at different settings so it's not annoying -Accurate door control; player can control individual sets of doors for when theres small platforms. Only downside is that it takes a while to walk over to the correct car to do this properly, since you have no conductor to do this for you Cons & Bugs: -The beeping when the doors close is too fast -Station announcements & displays don't work -All yards are empty in service mode. This includes West Side Yard, Sunnyside and Morris Park. -ACSES does not function; breaker switch has been disabled -ATC doesn't appear to be working properly around Harold Jct. and Penn Station -No signal guide, not even in the manual -On HUD speedometer differs from ASC display; ASC tells the truth, HUD lies -Railfanning: AI don't honk their horns at grade crossings -All grade crossings are stuck in the down position -Long Island City and Hunterspoint Ave. are modelled, but no services are available for them -Some services are completely missing if you compare it to actual schedules -The map looks a bit "too clean", there needs to be some trash here and there -Minor station details are missing -At Nostrand Avenue, the roads are completely empty and devoid of traffic. There are a few cars but they don't move. It's as if some kind of apocalypse occured -The AI aren't smart with the doors when it comes to making stops at small platforms -In service mode, Ronkonkoma trains come off the Port Jefferson branch from Huntington. I would like to say that it doesn't matter since Hicksville is the end of the map, but it just seems weird seeing it coming off the Port Jefferson branch -And finally, the biggest Con: The M7 is the only train in the game. There are no M3's, M9's, or diesel trainsets (DE30AC's and DM30AC's with C3's). This makes the mainline look a lot less busy than it is IRL with these missing trains. OVERALL: If you're into commuter railroads, get it! I'd recommend getting it during a sale. It's a nice DLC, but just don't pay full price for it. The only thing I haven't done is finished all of the scenarios, which I'll report back on later. EDIT OF REVIEW - AFTER PLAYING ALL SCENARIOS: I wish that service mode were as good as the traffic and population in the scenarios. In the scenario, the yards are filled and more trains running to make it look busy. The scenarios cover West Side Yard and Hunterspoint Ave & Long Island City, but service mode doesn't. I hope they change this in the future. Also, the scenarios aren't narrated - only the tutorial is. Markers are correctly placed at each location depending on your train (follow the blue signs that say "# MU", they tell you where to stop). My only criticisms are two things: In the "Race Day Run" scenario, the ASC made me late due to a random 15 MPH restriction in Floral Park (signal was clear too). The only other thing is that the "Suburban Sunset" scenario is just completely off. The scenario says you are taking a Ronkonkoma train, yet it's really a train coming from Huntington (via the Port Jefferson branch) and making local stops on the mainline, which Ronkonkoma trains don't do (except for Woodside, Jamaica, and Mineola). Also, the scenario runs against the typical rush hour traffic flow in the evening where people come FROM NYC, not TO NYC. But overall, I enjoyed this DLC after playing all the scenarios. Just wish service mode were better than the scenarios.

The DLC itself is actually quite well done. The mainline looks like how it should in real life (this is pre-3rd mainline track project), and the stations look well done and pretty accurate. The trainset is actually very well done and sounds just like how it does in real life barring minor differences. However, the AI traffic is severly lacking as well as scheduled services. This DLC is missing the ENTIRETY of Huntington/Port Jefferson trains. The 2nd most popular line in the system has had its services OMITTED. Not sure why Ronkonkoma Branch trains are depicted but not Huntington. That's almost a good third of the system's AI and scheduled services not depicted. The line feels pretty dead as a result, not like how the system is in real life. There are also no AI trains parked in Hillside Support Facility or Jamaica Station, which is an anomoly in the system. This is supposed to be one of the most busiest branches in North America, yet it shockingly feels like a ghost-town. Sunnyside Yard also has no Amtrak services at all, nor ACSs visible in Penn Station despite the images. Rush hour should be seeing plenty of trains, yet the system feels void of activity. Other minor details include missing station stop markers, the UI not depicting if the service is a skip/stop, express, or local service, and the ability to set the length of the trains. The graphics also don't look nearly as nice as it does in the screenshots. The window reflection must be for a test build, because those reflections aren't in the game, despite me running it on ULTRA settings. Not a big deal, but it does seem like false advertising though. All in all, great DLC, but it doesn't feel like the LIRR, more like a ghost-town with a few AI trains scattered about. Please add Huntington services/more AI/and more parked trains. TL;DR: Severe lack of AI trains compared to its real life counterpart making it feel devoid of life.

"Experience America’s busiest commuter railroad and all the bustle and challenges of railroading in New York City." The screenshots shown before the release of this DLC showed busy routes and yards full with trains. I did now some rides in service mode and it feels more like a train going through a ghost town. For example a ride in the early morning during rush hour from Atlantic Terminal to Hempstead, there was two other AI trains on the whole ride, my train was the only one at Jamaica, all the yards are emtpy, all streets are empty too. The route and train is modelled well, the sounds are good. Performance is good on this route so they really could have added some more AI trains. The scenarios are full of trains and show the potential of LIRR, even multiple simultaneously train arrivals at Jamaica station, sadly not in service mode. So overall it's negative because after the 5 scenarios it's dead boring.

But I want to share some thoughts about this addon. First thing first, the graphics are less impressive than the promotion in comparation of other addons (NEC or GWR), I think it's a result of the lack of reflection effect. For example, I can't see the reflection on the windows in the game like the illustraion shows, and you may got a "plastic feel" reflection in rainy scenarios. Then, what I got about the signal system is a total mass! HUD instructions don't match the ATC system at all. That's way too frustrating. So I recommand that you switch off the ATC in this version, casue it will confuse you a lot with the wrong speed limit. And I didn't got any signal system illustraion in the handbook, what's more, HUD always shows some signals that I can't find in the game, I don't know whether it is a bug, or it just what it looks like in the real world. And I seldom got an alert in high speeding driving even though I switch on the Alert System. What's more, there are some error in modelling aspect. East New York Station got a heavy rain even if it has a roof, and the Train itself has a conflict with the platform in Penn Station. And the doors, when the train stop at the platform which shorter than itself, it will still open all the doors instead of the doors that within the platform range, very awkward. All in all, I'm not totally satisfied with this addon, but if there are bug fixes and function addition in the future, it will become an acceptable product. SO, PLZ FIX THE BUG AND MADE IT BETTER!!!

There's a lot to talk about with this route, but I'll start off with the positive stuff. First of all, I have a strong interest in US commuter railroads, so I felt this route was something worth trying out. I think DTG have done a very good job with the overall detail on the Bombardier M7. I'm not sure if the physics are accurate or not, as I have never been to Long Island and ridden the real M7. The livery suits the units well, even though it's very basic. The M7 really does remind me of the Kawasaki M8 on the Metro-North Railroad, although there are a sizeable number of differences. The set-up procedure on the M7 is also nice, as it offers just that little bit more to do to keep you interested. In terms of the driving experience, my favourite part is the door controls, where you have to turn a key and press a button to open the doors. In some cases, you have to open the doors on both sides, such as if you're stopping at Jamaica or in the middle platform at Hicksville. Unfortunately that's all the positive aspects I can think of. Time to talk about the negative stuff, and there's lots of it. FIrst of all, I feel the horn on the M7 is too weak. I've seen footage of these units on Youtube, and the horns seem to be much louder on the real units than they are in TSW. I've also noticed that the lighting in Atlantic Terminal station is far too bright. This seems to be the only station on the route with this problem, but - at the end of the day - that doesn't excuse the issue. There have been a few cases (mainly at Hempstead, for some reason) where I have seen people standing under the platforms, with only their heads visible on the platform surfaces. There was one incident when I was stopped at Bellerose and saw a person standing on the tracks, on the wrong side of my train. The next thing is the small size of the route. DTG, what were you thinking including such a small portion of the system? There are so many missed opportunities on this route that it's not funny: Why are the Port Washington, West Hempstead, Far Rockaway, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, Babylon and Montauk Branches not included? Why did you not extend the mainline to Greenport, or - at the very least - Ronkonkoma? Why is there no static consists at Sunnyside Yard? Why is there no Amtrak or New Jersey Transit Ai at Penn Station? Why did you only include one train with the route? Why did you keep the length of the route within the generic 30 to 50 mile range? I don't understand why Long Island City station was included. Yes, you can run electric trains into the station, but only in one of the included scenarios. Passenger services to LIC are all diesel-powered. Because the only train included with the route is an electric train, there are no services available in - what is now - Timetable Mode where you can drive a passenger train into Long Island City. If the DE30AC locomotive and Kawasaki C3 coaches were included, it would make a lot more sense to include Long Island City. As I say, the line to Long Island City is electrified, but the only tracks in the station area that are electrified are a few sidings, not the tracks serving the platforms. Considering that there are Ronkonkoma and Port Washington services available to drive (in part), why in heaven's name did you not add the Hicksville to Ronkonkoma and Woodside to Port Washington sections. The total number of stations on the Long Island Rail Road in real life is 124, yet you only get a pathetic 26 in this route. I really am fed up with DTG's tradition of making the TSW routes very short and missing so many opportunities. Just take the Darlington to Saltburn route for example. At the very least, they could have added the Darlington to Bishop Auckland or Eaglescliffe to Hartlepool sections. Why they didn't will probably forever remain a mystery, since DTG seem to be very hesitant on explaining why they keep these routes very short. The inclusion of just one train - the Bombardier M7 - is a very stupid decision, in my opinion. In real life, the Long Island Rail Road doesn't just operate M7's, they also use Budd M3's, Kawasaki M9's and the DM30AC/DE30AC locomotives with Kawasaki C3 coaches. If just one of these additional trains was included - preferably the DM30AC - it would have made the route just that little bit more exciting. DTG, why was only one train included with this route? And that's not even getting in to what the TSW route is like. I've already expressed my anger over just how small the TSW route is, but even this is a very lifeless route: "Experience America’s busiest commuter railroad and all the bustle and challenges of railroading in New York City." "Just imagine the excitement and challenges as you navigate LIRR’s always-busy main line and make your way through Jamaica which hosts more than 1,000 trains a day. Whether you’re at the controls of a LIRR M7, riding along, or watching the show from trackside, experience all the sights and sounds of American commuter railroading at its bustling best." Always busy main line, you say. Well, if that's the case, why the hell is the line basically dead in Timetable Mode. Why is there only around five other trains running when you're driving in the aforementioned mode. As I said earlier, there is no static Amtrak consists or Amtrak and New Jersey Transit Ai trains in Sunnyside Yard and New York Penn station. These are such an important part of the New York rail scene, and the fact that neither are included in this route just adds to the lifelessness of the whole thing. There isn't even any static Long Island trains in the sidings at Jamaica and Hillside Yard. Or even the sidings at Hempstead, for that matter. 'Feel the detail as you step into the cab, take control, then live out your dreams exploring the highly detailed and immersive environment of the Long Island Rail Road.' Highly immersive, you say? Well I don't think driving through a very empty system with no static trains in the yards is 'highly immersive'. I'm tempted to call that false advertising. The tutorial for the M7 is incredibly basic. It makes absolutely no mention of the in-cab signalling system, which can be a right pain if you don't know how to use it properly. I only know how to use it after driving the Amtrak ACS-64, HHP-8, Acela and Metro North Kawasaki M8 on the New York to New Haven route in Train Simulator 2019. I think I've said all that I feel is necessary. I really don't know if I should recommend this route or not, since there is so much missing that it just isn't funny. I think I'll go ahead and not recommend the route, but I will say that if you are extremely curious, then - by all means - have a go at it. If you after a driving experience that lives up to what DTG claim it to be in the product page, stay well clear of this route.

It seems the US offerings all suffer one major draw back, they just fail to caputre the setting there in. The lack of details and feeling of living city along the route does nothing to aid it in making a postive impression. 6 lane freeways into new york and not a car in sight ect . The biggest issue here is there is essentialy no traffic on this line in Service mode so all you really have to do while driving straight for 45 minutes is notice just how lifeless the world is. Pros: - Train Modeling - Sounds - Station models Cons: - Service mode simulates a ghost town - Lack of detail in the world overall - only 1 loco offered

I was expecting this DLC to be an embrassment after NEC since it was an American DLC and DTG and America doesn't really mix (Sorry USA Railfans xD) Boy, I was wrong. The signalling system is clear to read isn't broken for once with a speed limiter and operator computer You get to put effort into opening doors rather then press a button Only con is that the AI is very empty
