Can you believe they want fifty USD for this? For a game that relies so heavily on visual, auditory, and written storytelling, they did an exceptionally poor job in all three categories. The characters look like mismatched piles of poorly textured assets sourced from Eastern European basements, and the facial animations couldn't look less like a finished product if they had "WIP" tattooed across their foreheads. After listening to nine characters in the first ten minutes of the game, less than half of them sounded like they had a voice actor instead of an amateur with a microphone delivering their lines, and that half did not include two-thirds of the three protagonists. Don't even get me started on the execrable soundtrack. Galeb's backstory write-up was the final straw; I'd been underwhelmed by the contents of Emem and Hilda's profiles (one of which claimed that she "chomped at the bit" instead of champed), but at least whoever wrote them understood enough about the English language to center my criticisms on the story aspects of the writing, not the literal written words themselves. Galeb's section reads -- when it is readable -- with the shallow and emotionless point-by-point, accolade-by-unrelated-accolade, lowest-common-denominator-word-choice style that I have come to expect of a WoW character's TRP profile written by a thirteen-year-old with no idea how to make a coherent character out of the list of facts he's concocted to explain his big buff coolguy's many abilities. He switches tenses in the same paragraph. He thinks that weary means wary. He claims that Galeb's actions are motivated by emotions/principles that he just finished noting Galeb doesn't feel. I should have known this game wasn't good enough as soon as the loading screen had "LEG" written in the bottom left corner and I realized my screen wasn't frozen while the game tried to load the full word "legendary". Arranging the protagonists' initials like that is such an easy and obvious mistake to fix, and yet they included it in the final product. If Journey's VA hadn't done such a good job of subtly but unmistakably sounding like she loves Emem during that initial conversation in the elevator, I would have jumped ship in the first three minutes. Alas, I am gay and dubiously lucky enough to have bought this dumpsterfire for 93% off, so it's back to the mines until the deplorable conditions drive me away.

Well... it was not easy, yet it is done. Short Verstion? Yes, it’s worth playing. But only for World of Darkness fans. To anyone else, the game would seem like a total failure — take it from someone who played it at launch and again four years later. Even for die-hard fans, the game lacks replayability and is riddled with a million flaws... At launch: My initial reaction was, naturally, one of revulsion — too many passwords, puzzles, and walls of text, with hardly any actual gameplay. On top of that, the game wasn't just buggy at launch; it was barely playable. Simply put, it didn't excel at anything. Except for its title: Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. It was a tough slog for someone who dislikes using walkthroughs and has no patience for bugs, glitches, or puzzles. Then again, there weren't really any walkthroughs available anyway. The game had just come out, and everyone was trying to muddle through, stumbling over errors and roadblocks that halted progress. And yet, after finishing this "mess of a game," a tiny spark of hope remained in me. It was a terrible, embarrassing title, but there was still something to it... Though, honestly, it was hard to say exactly what. Today, in 2026: The graphics leave much to be desired, and bugs persist (including one rather critical issue), but now we can finally judge Swansong without the initial baggage. First of all, it’s significantly better than I remembered. Of course, on my second run, I armed myself with a walkthrough. Does that make the game better? No. Oddly enough, walkthroughs almost always do players a disservice. At least, that’s how I see it. What really improved the game was a clear-eyed understanding of what was happening within it and how. Secondly, yes — the graphics were terrible back then, and they remain terrible today. Thirdly... how should I put this? Its greatest strength lies in its "ideas" — its fidelity to the "canon." I’m even willing to admit that the poor 46 hard workers who created this game deserve great credit. They understood the "Masquerade" far better than the big-budget developers and their ilk. It’s just that... well, they didn't quite manage to make it fully playable. All in all: Even for old-timers like me, there aren't many games that let us play as multiple characters simultaneously. There’s a certain charm to it, reminiscent of the good old days of Fahrenheit. It’s an intriguing concept, and executing it well — with a beautiful score, an authentic setting, and so on—is a major achievement that few developers can pull off. You’ve got the Malkavian with all their quirks, the Ventrue displaying both intellect and power, and the Toreador solving every problem with style. To my surprise, Leysha, Galeb, and Emem portray their clans in a way that stays true to the tabletop roots — and they do so second only to the now-classic Bloodlines video game. Unfortunately, visual novels tend to handle these clans much less effectively, so Swansong wins that to say at least. The developers tried to breathe soul not just into the characters, but into the world itself — a world that really strives to breathe freely here. Each character tackles problems in their own way, and the choices offered to us — once again categorized by clan — underscore the kind of role-playing individuality that players love. Unfortunately, budget constraints and a lack of experience prevented these ideas from being fully realized. That said, I think the interface design for each character alone is worthy of praise, not to mention the attempts to visually represent how story events impact the characters themselves... All of that is well and good — Galeb’s commanding presence, Leysha’s stealth, Emem’s cunning — but what is the bottom line? The bottom line is a staggering number of unnecessary puzzles that hinder the plot's progression, an incredibly small amount of actual "story," and an awful lot of "pointless running around." More then that - towards the end of the game, it feels like a character scene loads up just so you can pick two lines of dialogue (that changes most of the times 2 dialog lines btw)... Naturally, the tension is rising and the pacing should have been dynamic — with more varied endings than the brief options we actually got — but no matter how you look at it, it still falls short. I decided to write this review not just as a fan speaking to other fans, but also as a gesture of respect toward the developers. They secured the license and worked long and hard on Swan Song; the game is packed with original, cool ideas that remain true to the canon. It just saddens me that we’re unlikely to see another game like this in the same universe in a near future — one that is more polished and fully refined. Games like this require either a massive budget or a different approach altogether. For all my fondness for the game, I couldn't bring myself to play through it a third time. There’s simply no real point. Everything unlocked at 2 wlkthrough max, (and by the way, the "reload" mechanic here is old-school — you have to go back almost to the very beginning — so if you want to max characters experience, including the mostly useless skills and such, you’ll be reloading a lot), and I don't really have the desire to do so. The conclusion suggests itself: if the budget wasn't the problem, then perhaps it was down to certain developers — after all, the voice acting, music, artwork, and visuals are all excellent. ...it holds its own, and it’s certainly worth praising its original ideas once again. If Swan Song didn’t dictate exactly what you need to upgrade to progress story and have a "true" endings — or foist useless skills and abilities upon you — it would have scored higher. As it stands, the list of flaws is a long one. Ultimately, Swan Song feels like a truncated build or an alpha version of a World of Darkness masterpiece that never saw the light of day. Since we never got the full game, we can only drool over what we actually have. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is for everyone to decide for themselves. Score: 7/10 for fans, 3/10 for everyone else System requirements: Potato-tier Graphics: Potato-tier Bugs: Barely noticeable Story: Good Ideas: Brilliant Soundtrack: Good Concept: Excellent Puzzle difficulty: Moderate Number of puzzles: Excessively (a miss) high

Never. No way. The game itself would be good, but they managed to cram it with so many annoying things (You only see interactive things when you're standing on them, balancing on one leg, with a teacup with half a rat in it, with rosemary, while you have a marjoram-laced steak on your head) that the player loses the will to curse the developer by the end... Soha.

Terrible graphics, character models glitch and stutter ruining any little emersion. Characters are instantly annoying and bland and voice acting is poor.

I want to like this game more. I still like it, despite its many clear faults (mostly graphics). It's not hard to understand for people who already played the TTRPG, and the investigation sequences aren't too hard.
