This game has a genuinely great foundation, especially if you're into this kind of genre. The good stuff massively outweighs the bad, and despite its rough edges, I'm having an absolute blast with it. There are some areas that clearly need more polish, QoL improvements and, most importantly, more content. But if the developers keep building on what is already here, I can see this becoming a seriously good game. THE GOOD STUFF • Great army customization This is probably one of my favorite parts of the game. It's not just about having a large selection of units, equipment and potions. Each individual unit has its own active and passive skills that you can unlock, alongside raw stats that can be improved. And all of this is tied to the experience each unit earns, giving you a surprising amount of control over how your army develops. • Dynamic settlement system It's not overly complicated, but cities have a decent amount of things going on. Events pop up often enough that reaching the next settlement is always interesting because you never quite know what you'll find. Sometimes you can help them deal with their problems, sometimes you can exploit those problems for profit. • Surprisingly deep and, more importantly, fun battles The combat is much deeper than I expected. The combination of unit customization, skills, equipment and different abilities makes individual units feel genuinely unique. Trying to keep all the pieces of your army working together to overcome what are often horrible numerical disadvantages is incredibly satisfying. It also feels like there's usually some way to counter a particular unit or ability, which gives the combat a nice tactical layer. Overall, the game feels well balanced for the most part. • The music I honestly didn't expect the soundtrack to be something I'd mention in a review of this genre, but here we are. There aren't nearly enough tracks yet, but the ones that are here are really catchy. I've genuinely caught myself tapping my finger on the desk along with the music. I'd love to see more tracks added following the same musical direction, because what's already there works really well. THE BAD STUFF • The AI The AI is a mixed bag. When it works, it can work really well, but most of the time it's either extremely predictable or just plain stupid. You'll see enemies charging through rivers for absolutely no reason, archers happily standing in the water while shooting instead of repositioning, or marauders desperately trying to flank your backline because there's a priest standing there, completely ignoring the actual battle. I've also seen units use buff potions while they're still at the back of the map, only for the effect to wear off before they even reach combat. Another thing that feels like a missed opportunity is that, from my experience, every race seems to follow pretty much the same AI pattern. Having undead mindlessly throw themselves at you in huge numbers with little concern for formations works. Having dwarves do exactly the same thing not so much. Different races having more distinct tactical behaviors would add a lot to the game. • Graphics They're pretty average and fairly generic, although personally this doesn't bother me much. The one thing I would really like, though, is the ability to zoom in closer during battles without everything turning into an ultra-pixelated mess. Or the walking animation being looped properly instead of looking like a limp. • QoL and equipment/unit variety This is the part I'm least worried about because I fully expect it to improve as development continues. Still, there are a few things that currently bother me: -Units can be difficult to identify at a glance: A stronger contrasting outline would probably help a lot, especially when units are behind trees or other scenery. Terrain can also sometimes be difficult to distinguish. -HP bars can disappear behind scenery or other units, making it difficult to quickly assess the battlefield. -Status effects are sometimes too easy to miss. Having to rely on small particles around a unit isn't always enough when there's a lot happening on screen. -Equipment availability in towns is way too scarce. I understand that this is probably partly a balancing decision, but seeing a prosperous town selling one piece of basic armor, a lantern and absolutely nothing else for 31 days is... not exactly exciting. -Units don't seem to suffer a penalty for leaving zones of control while fleeing. I guess this is intentional but I don't understand why. 8.5/10 Really fun game. It has a really strong core, some genuinely clever ideas and the combat is really engaging. I hope it gets expanded on eventually.

This game is a solid C+. It gets all of the basics correct, but it doesn't really excel at anything and is ultimately kind of bland if you are a really well-traveled RPG player. I lean toward recommending this game if the following is true: [*]You liked Warbanners and would enjoy a significantly improved experience. [*]You have the patience to learn a unique set of combat rules that may differ from your previous experiences. [*]You like open worlds, but enjoy a strong foundation of handcrafted content. [*]You are ok with simple character customization and unit trees. [*]You are not bothered by a dated graphical style and presentation. [*]You are not illiterate and can read a couple of paragraphs to understand what you are doing. [*]You don't compare this game to Battle Brothers or other modern RPGs that have vast more complexity. The market of RPGs is large and this sits in a fairly simple niche. For me personally, the units in the game are too one-dimensional to be interesting. Units sit in their very narrowly defined archetypes with pretty small wiggle room and the only thing that changes is their quality goes up a bit as you apply their experience. Being able to deploy 16 units on the field is pretty interesting. The hex grid is great. The way your units combine and work together is important and works well. If I was playing this game 10 years ago, it would be a 10/10. Stunning masterpiece. Today, it is in the same genre as Battle Brothers, Menace, and Cyber Knights. This game is playing checkers compared to those titles. That is fine, Checkers is a fine game, you just have to be in the mood to play it.

the combat is very good the strategy involved is addicting lots of improvements from their first game, and plenty of units to choose from so your army can be a real mix after you complete the main campaign (or before even) you can build an army of the undead very cool

4/10 The game could have been great, but it just isn't that good. It feels like the developers didn't want to put in the extra work needed to make it feel complete and varied. The game feels like a small, closed box. There are too few units, spells, and items, the map is too small, and there are no proper upgrade or research systems. It simply lacks variety, depth, and content. It had a lot of potential, but it feels unfinished and underdeveloped.

Could be a fun game. But right now you will find yourself sighting with a broken balance meter. Too few ways to progress, too many ways to get screwed. Game acts like a Rogue-like, but isnt. you just into a death spiral. cant pull out and start fresh in the same predicament. The latest patch fixes *maybe* some things? but leaves others untouched (you have a level 1 party that is limping to a Plague ridden town and get ambushed by a 5 skull difficulty mission, can turn it down and can't retreat... game over). I played *A LOT* and find the game just forcing me to reload for nonsense that isn't remotely fun or fair.

Very enjoyable game. I actually stopped playing Zcom to play this instead! Good combat and army customization with a Battle Brother-esque game play loop (recruit characters, travel the world, fulfill contracts, fight random battles...) There are story missions but game seems very replayable due to random encounters and your army composition. Recommended for Turn Based lovers,

Nice game so far. Definitely has the Battle Brothers vibe which I like. Hopefully a ton more character models to reflect the gear the ppl are wearing other than generic pieces.
