Voidling Bound

1 / 8

The trailers capture the high action tone and customization really well, and i'd recommend it solely if you have any interest on what it looks like at a glance. I wanted a short game to tide me over before jumping from a long game to another long game, and this fills that perfectly. It has a fun endgame and more content coming that will probably have me coming back occasionally too, including new content already announced which looks great. Build diversity likely lends itself to anyone remotely interested in this kind of game. If you like being creative and expressing yourself via unorthodox builds in game with a lot of possibilities, this is a great game for it. My main and favorite build is an extreme speed plasma machinegunning bird that slows down time as it runs, while leaving a searing trail that damages enemies, and has floating lifesteal leech clouds that seek out and steal life from enemies whenever it melees. I named it Kwipele Kalikimach 7 If you like challenging games, the harder difficulties feel appropriately challenging if you want to feel adequately forced to use the defensive options. Things still take a while to really get hard, but there is challenge there if you want it. For some negatives: At the time of this review, there are some UX problems that really bothered me and everyone else from looking stuff up online, such as simple box sorting options/resetting, and also when using spliced voidlings while trying to evolve other ones. Design-wise, some hub area machines feel useless later on, unless i'm missing something. Also, investing into 1 main voidling to grind with and use to farm for "Catching up" others feels way more efficient than building a team you swap around between. The return on investment from using 1 strong voidling to do everything feels way more rewarding than matching elemental weaknesses of enemies, and the cost to upgrade skill trees of newer voidlings is a major setback that stacks on top of initial stats of unbred new voidlings. An unwarranted suggestion: New voidlings announced at time of writing look neat, especially the big scorpion one. They also both look like they possibly share in the rig of existing ones, which I think would be a fine thing going forward development-wise, if there's any desire to have a large library of voidlings. The art team is clearly very skilled based on the awesome variety of rigs, animations, and general visual variation of the voidling models, and every single extra voidling (so far) meaningfully exponentially expands build possibilities, which is really exciting. Even something relatively "normal" in skeleton structure as Morfang is so interestingly decorated with the unique visual details such as its pectoral area and the arm variations. I'd personally love another bird-like thing using kwipecks skeleton. Not sure how much is planned for this game, but I'm hopeful for whatever this team does going forward based on where it's at and where it's going.

A fun creature-collector game! I enjoyed the level of build customization on display, especially once a certain late-game feature is unlocked that allows you to mix and match like crazy. I can't say much to the difficulty, as I played on the easiest setting (I sort of suck at shooters and was mostly just here for the critters, lol,) but I enjoyed the variety in creature playstyles. I'm also pretty tolerant of grind, but I can see how the setup of repeating missions to gather resources may be tiring to some. And speaking of grind (or rather the lack of it,) I appreciate the mid-game feature that allows you to passively train your creatures, including up to max level. The actual story is on the short side, but there's an end-game endless mode where the real build-testing takes place. End of the day, if you enjoy collection and customization, you'll most likely enjoy this game too!

It's always nice to see a monster-collecting game that isn't trying to be Pokémon, but is in fact doing its own thing, top to bottom. The TL;DR of it all? It's a great game, with a solid core gameplay and a lot of room for creating your own unique creatures - and your own unique BUILDS, carefully tuned to tear through all opposition. It's not an easy game, but it also isn't punishing - so you've got room to experiment and learn the hard way, without getting punished for it. To go into a bit more detail... lots of 'mon' games have tons of creatures, because collecting them is kind of the point - but you only ever wind up actually USING a fraction of them. Voidling Bound sidesteps this neatly. There's only nine species of Voidling in the game, and you'll probably want to try out all of them as you go - however, each has a branching evolution-tree that goes four stages deep, resulting in 16 distinct options for the 'final stage' of each of those nine. And that's without counting the special 'Golden Egg Variants' that each species has 1-3 of, which are only found in special eggs hidden around the stages - offering unique traits and elements that the species can't normally obtain. Each of those nine Species have a distinct playstyle, however, as well as catering to vastly different skill-levels, with the earlier ones being simple and straightforward, while later ones allow for complex combos and high skill-expression during combat. So there's plenty of variety - and even if you aren't actually going to PLAY as all those 150-odd final-stage variants, none of them are wasted, since each has unique attacks, traits, passives, colorations, physiological variations and so on, which you can then use to gene-splice your ideal, 'perfect specimen' of that species. Indeed, one of the fundamental joys of this game lies in using a combination of breeding, training, directed evolution, neural grafting and gene-splicing to create ever more powerful creatures, with your own growing understanding of the game's systems allowing you to escalate from just 'high numbers make enemies fall down!' to 'potent synergies based around abusing specific status-ailments and passives to become nigh-immortal'. Nor is this purely for your own amusement, since the main endgame activity is a survival-mode where you'll NEED every trick and advantage you can possibly engineer in order to go the distance... Now, to be clear, the game isn't PERFECT. There's some minor glitches, especially with the animation of the titular creatures, and the sheer variation in their sizes and shapes clearly makes it difficult for the game to keep them acting natural while they wander about your spaceship's vivarium. Hence, stuff like them getting caught on each other or obstacles and trying to vibrate through them like The Flash. That, and some parts of the interface sometimes needing to be told twice before it actually does what it's supposed to, is about as bad as it gets though - I've encountered no serious bugs or crashes. Honestly, the biggest flaw is the length. After 22 hours, I've essentially finished the game, and that's after taking the scenic route - all that's really left is the aforementioned survival-mode, going back to some older levels to look for hidden collectibles, and just plain GRINDING. Oh yes - this game doesn't have any kind of 'world', open or otherwise, to traverse... it uses a 'mission' structure, with two distinct types of levels on offer. The 'Survival' missions, where you just fight off a set number of enemy waves followed by a boss, and the much more elaborate - and FUN - Cleansing-missions where you navigate your Voidling through a sizable 3D Action Platformer level, fighting enemies and collecting resources as you go. These are where the game really shines, reminding me in many ways of classics like Ratchet & Clank or Jak & Daxter... but there really just aren't ENOUGH of them, leaving both the game as a whole and the survival-mode endgame to consist mostly of wave-based survival-arenas. Perfectly functional, those, since the core gameplay is solid and fun, but... just not nearly as much FUN as exploring an alien planet, cleansing it of hostile infection as you go and scooping up eggs that'll hatch into interesting new Voidlings once you get home. Still, as far as criticisms go, "I wish there was more of it" is a pretty light one. Honestly, I'm mostly just hoping that this game will be successful enough for them to make a bigger-and-better sequel, with enough time and budget for, like, twice as many exploration-levels at least.

It is a really good game, all voidlings are incredibly enjoyable to play and even ones that design wise weren't my favorite were really cool gameplay wise like Ur-Sek and the campaign is good enough and it doesn't go for too long, my main problem with the game overall that hasn't made me wanna play more is the bother to increase voidling stats via breeding, I don't want to go through the job of selecting two specific creatures, then do a mission, get the eggs, open the eggs, level up the creature to 20 via training, evolve the creature and splice them over and over again to be able to have a good run in the endless mode that you get after the campaign

Its pretty neat! However.. The Gameplay is extrememly repetitive, fight monsters, earn currency, use currency to evolve. It doesn't get any further from that. Besides the grindy sides of things, the endless creativie posibilities give a chance to experiment and learn with their new evolved voidling in action, making the playthrough somewhat unique.

Really liked the game. It was fun and new. But its to short as you can see ive played 6,7 hours and ive finnished the game. I know there is the void missions but they are really repetetive and lazy tho still cool if there would have been more actual missions
