We Happy Few

1 / 6

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

Discover the retrofuturistic city’s dark history as you play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as they face their pasts, prepare for the future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in the artificially enthused society.

Retrofuturistic 1960s England Set in retrofuturistic 1960s England, you will find a city ravaged by war and rebuilt by delusionally happy people. Everything appears joyful in Wellington Wells, including its roads, its people, and its omnipresent television personality: Uncle Jack! But, it’s actually a world on the brink of collapse. Come unveil its dark history, and discover how and why its residents came to be so beguilingly happy.

Three Interwoven Narratives Play as three flawed characters who explore their own connections to the events surrounding the rebuilding of Wellington Wells. They each have a unique storyline in which they interpret and react to the events around them in different ways. As you hide, conform, or fight back as each of them, you will encounter dark humour, a spot of hope, and even some redemption along the way.

A Dystopia of Your Very Own In We Happy Few, no two playthroughs are alike. While the citizens of Wellington Wells will always want to ensure that you’ve taken your Joy, the procedurally generated world will ensure that your experience with We Happy Few is different and unique. Wellington Wells is never quite like you remember it.

Take Your Joy…or Don’t. The Choice is Yours Customize your We Happy Few experience: • Choose from a range of difficulties for new and experienced players alike, • Masochistic? Such incredible storytelling and compelling worldbuilding. It is hands down the best game of this kind I have ever played. If you have a penchant for dystopia, a bit of dark humour, and real humanity, and love a well thought out world, this game is for you!

It is a very fun game. It is difficult but it is fun with amazing graphics and animations

Gets tedious by the third act but overall this was pretty good! I like the world here, I’m always into dystopian tales. I liked the different systems to keep track of here and how they made each part feel pretty unique. It’s rather broken and easy to make fun of. Not to mention it’s just pretty easy in general. Still a good time though.

I hate to say this, but this game is not nearly worth 60 bucks. It still feels so unfinished, so much clunky stuff, unfinished areas... and the combat system which you cant avoid is even worse. As well as the performance. The voicelines (only english) are good tho

honestly i played during EA and right when it launched. It felt really bland and underdeveloped. I do not recommend this game.

Fun and charming experience. The premise and world itself is extremely interesting, but it could have been better presented in some places. I'd be quite interested to learn what the rest of the world looked like and why Britain never interacted with another country ever again. Or at least learn what the Germans' whole goal was and what they did after. It does make an amusing commentary on authoritative takeover and metaphorically predicting how some people would handle something like Covid when the wrong people are in power. The choice to split the story among three different characters could have been executed better. There are parts where each character meets another and the scenes don't line up or look very different when done with a different character, it makes the story feel disconnected. But the good parts of the approach is you get to see more of this ridiculous world through different events that one person wouldn't have gone through all. I'm glad they explored Uncle Jack's story at the end, but I wish it had more to it. And then having the final DLC add in an extra layer and keep things tied together was nice, but it was still hard to believe all these events could be happening at the same time as they did a poor job of showing it. Something that's bothersome is how flat the world is, it's almost completely flat aside from the obvious buildings and landmarks. Yet when you get to the DLCs the towns actually have hills and sloped paths and so on. Things like that and how the laboratory you visit as multiple characters is in a completely different location in each story adds some jagged edges to the experience. I think the biggest issue the game has is how overreaching it tries to be in its mechanics. It has food and survival needs but you don't die from it, it just affects your combat, and there's so much random loot, weapons and money, but you can't carry very much nor will you use most of it. There's few things that need buying and not much needing crafting, so it seems they had some different ideas during development that changed the final result but a lot of leftovers remained. There are arcade modes for true survival and that seems like it was the core game and then the story was dropped on top of it. Could've been done better, but was enjoyable.
