I wanted to like this game, but couldn't. Story: After the first 5 times of them showing characters sad past memories in a pocket dimension, it started getting repetitive. Little did I know 5 more time spaces showing characters sad pasts were waiting ahead. After getting through Sigrika's sad past dimension, I was done with it, gave it one last chance, and whoa another (Lucilla) sad pocket dimension. Every single quest in this game follows the exact same formula of meeting a new girl, seeing her sad past and having some aura farming epic climax, maybe it works if you wait weeks for a patch, but playing it in one go is just bizarre. I am an enjoyer of waifu collectors, but it doesn't even do it well with your waifus disappearing after their patch and game having little parasocial side content for them. So the story is going to piss you off if you don't like stuff like that, nor will it satisfy you enough if you do. Add to it classic Chinese-gacha "dialogue" being a series of monologues throwing tons of jargon at you, the story not even having a clear direction and endgoal, and you get a pretty miserable experience saved only by visual spectacle being nice to look at. Combat: Starts ok and better than other games like this in early bosses having cool move sets and having to actually dodge stuff in the boss "hologram" gamemode, but it is made completely irrelevant by endgame structure carrying only about your dps and encouraging strict rotations instead of playing around with characters' kits, and kits themselves becoming more and more simplified as characters release, with the newest character released in this patch having optimal gameplay of holding a mouse button and getting infinite iframes. It leads to being able to completely ignore enemy moves the second you get modern characters and all good things about combat disappear, leaving you again with a repetitive but visually pleasing spectacle that feels empty. Other: Exploration starts ok, nothing groundbreaking, but then it turns into ubisoft checklist, even picking up chests gets automated later on. Great exploration for people who don't like exploration, I guess. Music is pretty good. Gacha: You get quite a lot of pulls for new characters, but signature weapons feel mandatory on a lot of them + devs like to run characters really needing each other in their teams back to back + big powercreep and increasing hp of enemies, so your standard gacha game at the end of the day. Don't want to compare to other titles, but if you expect anything other than the devs trying to squeeze you dry, you will be disappointed. It is nothing someone who played similar games would find out of place in the genre. TLDR: Directionless husk with pretty visuals, that starts with an okay premise, but it feels like every single patch the devs have a meeting where they decide to make all elements of the game worse but make it prettier.

This might sound like a weird reason to not like a game anymore but every single time I open this game it could be once a week, twice a week, it could be every day there is an update that I have to restart the whole game for it to happen and it got to the point that I dont even want to open the game because it will take a while to open and update and I cant just open it and play.

Been a day 1 player who has bought monthly pass and battle pass since then, bought many skins (almost all), and yet had to quit because of the 50/50 system. Constant 50/50 losses, almost 6 times in a row twice. This made me walk away from the game slowly and today’s Qingxiao update was the last thread that got cut, because I lost 50/50 again. Never touching this game again. They say WuWa is generous, it is not. Also, the amount of crashes in the recent updates have been unbearable - even on a good PC setup.

Almost 1,200 Hours — Still Coming Back I have almost 400 hours on Steam, and around 800 hours before the Steam release, so I've spent a LOT of time with Wuthering Waves. And honestly, despite its flaws, this is a game I genuinely love. The world is absolutely beautiful. The environments, atmosphere, animations, combat effects, and overall visual design are incredible. Exploring the world never gets old, and there are so many areas where I just stop for a moment because the scenery looks amazing. The gameplay is probably my favorite part. The combat feels fast, stylish, and satisfying. Dodging, parrying, swapping characters, using Echoes, and putting together different teams makes the combat genuinely fun instead of feeling like you're just watching your characters do everything for you. And the characters are amazing. They look incredible, have great designs, and most of them are genuinely fun to play. You can tell a lot of effort went into making each character feel unique, both visually and gameplay-wise. But another thing that genuinely surprised me is the story. At first, I wasn't expecting too much, but as I kept playing, the story kept getting better and better. There were moments where I genuinely felt like I was watching a high-quality anime rather than playing a game. The cinematics, music, character moments, and emotional scenes can be incredible, and it feels like the developers keep raising the quality with each part of the story. And honestly, it just keeps getting better and better. The more I play, the more invested I become in the world and its characters. BUT... There is one thing that I really believe holds this game back: the gacha system and especially the 50/50 system on event banners. Honestly, I think Wuthering Waves would be 100% better without the gacha system. The game already has an amazing open world, fantastic combat, beautiful characters, and a story that keeps improving. Having to deal with gambling-like mechanics just to get the characters you want can be extremely frustrating. The 50/50 is especially painful. You can save for weeks or months, finally get enough currency for the character you've been waiting for, and then lose the 50/50 and get a character you didn't want. It can completely kill the excitement of pulling for a new character. I understand that gacha is a huge part of how these games make money, but I still believe Wuthering Waves could be an even better experience with a more player-friendly system — or ideally, no gacha at all. Despite that, I've put nearly 1,200 hours into this game for a reason. The world is beautiful, the combat is incredibly fun, the characters are awesome, and the story feels like I'm watching an amazing anime that somehow lets me control the characters. Remove the gacha/50-50 system and make the characters directly obtainable, and this game would be damn near perfect. Recommended.
