Ys Seven

1 / 8

Originally released as a PSP exclusive, Ys SEVEN was the first fully 3D Ys title, the first Ys title to include a party-based battle system allowing players to swap control of characters in real-time, and the most story-heavy Ys game of its time.

This original PC port presents the game in full upscaled HD with a wide variety of resolution options, smooth 60 fps gameplay, full Steamworks integration featuring a variety of new achievements, and even a revised localization to ensure players receive the most immersive gaming experience possible.

Join redheaded adventurer Adol Christin and his loyal companion, Dogi, as they make good use of their pirate connections from adventures past to weigh anchor in the bustling port city of Altago – a former world trading capital that was cut off from foreign visitation for far too long by an all-too-recently ended war with the Romun empire.

The people of Altago are still distrustful of foreigners, and the land is crawling with monstrous creatures who are invulnerable to standard steel, rendering Adol’s tried and true arsenal of weapons from games past ineffective. Forced to rearm and retrain from scratch – and to prove his worth to this new country’s somewhat xenophobic populace – Adol takes up a king’s quest to explore a nearby set of ruins, only to find himself embroiled in a high-stakes game of appeasing ancient dragons and saving the world… yet again.

Along the way, he’ll meet a variety of companions old and new who will join him in his quest via the newly introduced party system, wherein up to three characters may be controlled at any one time. Only by mastering the use of pierce, slash, and thrust attacks, as well as dozens of unique skills, quick dodging, “flash guarding,” and more can Adol and his team uncover the mystery of the Five Great Dragons, the five ancient tribes of Altago, and the recent string of earthquakes that threaten to tear apart this ancient and storied land.

Come take part in the first Ys adventure of the modern era! The frenetic challenges and massive bosses that made this historic series famous are back, and they’re bigger than ever.

Make SEVEN your lucky number! Key Features:

Fast, real-time combat with dozens of unique abilities, both physical and magical

A brand new party system allowing for up to three playable characters at once, including Adol’s loyal sidekick Dogi and fan-favorite mercenary Geis from Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim

Enormous screen-filling bosses set to quintessentially Ys rock music composed by the legendary Falcom Sound Team jdk

One of the most complex and involving storylines of the entire series, spanning well over 20 hours’ worth of gameplay

Upscaled HD graphics and consistent 60 fps framerate bring this former PSP-exclusive title up to modern PC standards

Full Steamworks integration, including a bevy of new achievements

A great story about cycles and fate that drags on for too long. Ys SEVEN is fundamentally, a good game, the combat is good, the visuals are nice, the world is fun to explore, but commits the worst sin than a video game can do and that's being boring. There's not much that I can say about this besides that, around 7 hours in, the game could end but instead goes on for another 7 hours and gets repetitive pretty fast. The game is decent, but SEVEN walked so Memories of Celceta could run. Wouldn't recommend if it's your first Ys game, but if you're already in the rabbit hole you might want play it for the story. Final rating: 6/10.

This game is just pure fun. The action rpg combat is fast-paced, fluid and satisfying. It never gets boring with lots of variety in abilities and party members you're heavily encouraged/required to switch to frequently. The story doesn't waste your time, doesn't overstay its welcome and keeps you invested all the way through. The characters are pretty well-written and likeable too. The music is AMAZING. This whole game oozes with older action jrpg vibes, this was a psp game and it shows in the best ways possible. I'm very excited to play the other games in the series, highly recommend

I've been playing through the series chronologically (via Digital Emelas) and felt this game was one of the most lackluster of the series that I've played so far. I feel this game lacked both story wise and combat wise. The plot seems generic and predictable, takes FOREVER to get truly invested and the characters lack depth. The combat doesn't feel that impactful and felt spammy and bland. There is a lot of grinding to be done (materials) if you want to finish all quests and make good use of the synthesis system. On a more positive note, the soundtrack does not miss! Overall: 6/10. Not terrible but left a lot to be desired, and very easy to follow for any newcomers entering the series. Onward to YS IX for me! P.S: The difficulty spikes at the VERY end, make sure your entire team is well geared. Just saying!

I came into this game after playing through Oath in Felghana and was originally disappointed in the combat since it was a changeup from the Oath/Ark/Origins style of combat which was had some really interesting mechanics, however playing through and getting an actual hang of it, Ys Seven has easily become one of my favourite games in the Ys series so far. The music is insanely good (Falcom love their rock, and I'm a fan of rock), the boss battles actually punish you if you're not paying attention and there are some insanely cool situations/pay offs which I won't get into as that would spoil the story and how some of the fights set you up. I will say though it does have a Parry system that isn't quite well explained called "Flash Guard" I believe I somehow missed the tutorial prompt for this (spoke to a lot of NPCs) but eventually looked up why I randomly 'guarded' something, then the mechanics of the game opened up tremendously and really enabled you to style on bosses if you reacted to their patterns. For me this is easily an 8-9/10, had a lot of fun and will continue to pickup the Ys series games whenever I see them on special because they're hidden gems that always one up each other the more you play through them.
