The adventure games this dev makes have an impressive amount of spritework in the many different locations you end up passing through. The puzzles in this one are very straightforward but charming, I doubt you'd end up getting stuck on any of them. I love how much effort is made to make this 'historically' authentic with period references to horror authors and entertainment in the 1800s and very early 1900s. Overall, An English Haunting is a beautifully made pixel adventure game that approaches the topic of interdimensional horror very tastefully. I'd definitely recommend it.

An English Haunting offers a genuinely charming trip into early 19th-century England, and it's the atmosphere that carries the whole experience. The local color is beautifully realized, and the game does a lovely job weaving in the social and philosophical discourses of the period — you really feel like you're moving through that specific historical moment rather than a generic period backdrop. Mechanically, it's clean and uncluttered, no unnecessary fuss getting in the way of exploration. That said, a few things held it back from being a real standout for me. The balance leans far too heavily on dialogue and too lightly on puzzles — for an adventure game, I wanted more moments where I actually had to think rather than just click through conversations. Difficulty overall is quite low, which compounds that issue. There are also simply too many characters, and most of them stay fairly surface-level; I never felt I got to know anyone beyond their basic function in the plot. The lack of voice acting doesn't help here either — with spoken dialogue I think I'd have connected to the cast much more easily, since text alone left a lot of the character work feeling flat. The central mystery — tracking down the professor — also fizzles rather than resolves. Him simply turning up in an asylum by the end feels like a shortcut rather than a satisfying payoff, and the story's conclusion in general left me wanting more closure. Overall: a good-looking, well-researched period piece with real atmospheric strengths, let down by shallow characters, low challenge, and an ending that doesn't quite stick the landing. Recommended for the setting and mood, tempered expectations for the mystery itself.

Моё уважение разработчикам. История не просто рассказывает нам о профессоре, изучающем потусторонние явления. Подведена мощнейшая база, правильно выбрано место и время, а именитые персонажи, которых мы встречаем по мере прохождения, заставляют улыбнуться и поглубже копнуть в их биографии. Видно что делали очень увлечённые люди, настолько всё увлекательно и гармонично смотрится. Буду покупать и проходить адвенчуры от этой студии. Но было бы неплохо увидеть локализацию на русский язык в будущем.

Una maravilla, el primero, Nightmare Frames, me encantó, y éste segundo me ha vuelto a encantar. Comprado sin rebajas y me ha entretenido más que otros juegos famosos de compañías famosas que valen 3 o 4 veces más dinero. Lo recomiendo 100%, el creador de ésta saga es un Genio! Como cuida todos los detalles: diálogos, ambientación, música, historia...es una auténtica pasada. Hace 3 minutos que lo he acabado y ya estoy comprando el siguiente: The dark Rites of Arkham, no quiero ni puedo esperar a seguir jugando estos fantásticos juegos. Que gozada.

A delightful Victorian romp with gorgeous pixel graphics and gramophone music. Some moon logic and pixel hunting, I recommend a walkthrough to smoothen the experience unless you're into that.

Cool lovecraftian game with a lot of animations, locations, and dialogs. The pixel art is very beautiful also.

I am likely playing these "out of order", I had recently finished "The Dark Rites of Arkham" and decided to buy the rest of their Point and Click collection. While 'Dark Rites' is still my favorite so far, this comes close! I love these games and this developer kills it. I found a lot of loose (and not so loose) connections between this and Dark Rites and I very much hope they're set in the same world. Everything positive I had to say about Dark Rites goes here, The story and comedy elements are perfect, the length of the story and its pacing make it so everything fits together and nothing overstays its welcome. The puzzles in this one are slightly more abstract than 'Dark Rites' and I found that a lot of the sub-plots are left open ended and mysterious. I hope that 'An English Haunting' and 'The Dark Rites of Arkham' are given follow-ups or proper sequels. The other game, Nightmare Frames is my next playthrough and I'm very excited for it. I will certainly be buying any future installments from this developer, and I hope that any and all fans of the genre will do the same.
