This should not be Verified on Steam Deck. It stutters badly regardless of settings. For a game that's been released so long ago I'm very disappointed that this issue has never been fixed, judging from other comments.

This game is the best thing to ever happen to me. My mother passed away a year ago and I have spent so much time grieving and putting my energy into this game. <3

“Coral Island” sets out to do something remarkable, and the early game delivers on that promise. The first few seasons are genuinely great; full of things to do, places to explore, and a multitude of donations to make to begin restoring the town to its former glory. The opening hours hold real promise and charm. I only wish the game maintained that energy throughout. (7/10) Alas, the pacing slowly becomes glacial around early fall, and not because of the day length you choose. That part works fine. Instead, the core tasks become mind-numbingly repetitive. Diving, in particular, shifts from exciting exploration into a chore. You are asked to clear thousands upon thousands of identical trash piles across leagues of nearly identical areas, and the novelty quickly wears off. The occasional merfolk interaction is fantastic, but it’s buried under hours of filler. Relationship progression is similarly slow. Hearts increase at a crawl, and the game does not provide enough scenes or interactions to maintain emotional investment in your favorite islanders. As a result, before romance even becomes available, you have likely drifted away from the characters you were trying to get to know. The game tries to compensate with hangouts, which are a good idea and add some novelty, but there are not enough of them, and they eventually repeat until they lose their charm. Nothing is bad on its own; it is simply not supported by enough meaningful content to justify the grind. Heart events also sometimes fail to trigger when they should. Usually this happens because you need to see a related scene first, but the tooltip gives no indication of such. For example, it is easy to reach Eva’s heart 2 event long before it is possible to trigger it, with no signal that you're missing a prerequisite. I assumed it was bugged until it finally activated much later. In addition, once you marry someone, all other romantic relationships will be broken without input from you or your spouse. While that might be exactly what most people are looking for, it would still have been nice if it was not the only option. Even the chance to ask your spouse about an open relationship and getting turned down would have been preferable. Even so, the worst part of the game must be the immersion breaks. One major example is the merfolk language: the player reads their dialogue in English, but the protagonist supposedly cannot understand them until obtaining a translator. If you have been inhabiting your character, this fractures the illusion. It would have been far better if the mer simply spoke gibberish that neither player nor character could understand, preserving immersion until the translator is earned. Unfortunately, the problems don’t stop there. How the harvest festival competition was handled is another baffling choice. The letter and instructions you received made it seem like you needed one item from each listed category. Yet your opponent enters all silver eggs and still somehow wins against your osinium products. It feels like you were misled, and had I known, I would have submitted six of my highest value items instead. I genuinely thought variety was the point. There are smaller logic breaks as well. For example, when encountering a boiling pot underwater, clicking on it produces the line: “Taking a deep breath, you immediately wish you hadn’t.” Amusing, sure, but you’re underwater. How do you take a breath? Did you pour some of the foul liquid inside your diving suit? But why? And how? There are also plenty of unintentionally funny moments that help break up the monotony, such as discovering an underwater stable full of giant seahorses. Cute, absolutely. Practical? Not really. Seahorses are famously terrible swimmers. By year two, the game begins to pick up steam again with lots of new things to do. At that point, I started to get invested once more and enjoyed getting to know the merfolk to a greater extent, but I wish the latter part of the first year had not been such a slog to get through. I would consider myself lucky if I never have to see another underwater trash pile for as long as I live. (7/10)

The game is just too big. It feels more like they spent all their time trying to one up every other farming sim out there and less time actually trying to make a quality product. Every time I clear 1 task 2 more pop up to take its place. Like the never ending farming sim hydra. Meanwhile there are still many bugs riddled throughout that have been known about for years in the forums that have still not been fixed. They’re little things but they should have been patched out by now. It’s clear the devs don’t care; they just wanted more content and went for quantity over quality. Everything is just too extra, goddess donations, then mermaid donations, then town improvements, then guardians. And the rewards become less and less fulfilling with each new task set in front of you. Add to that the next draw the dating element and again every 3 seconds you’re trying to do something and there’s another cutscene there’s so many cutscenes you will get annoyed if you’re trying to get anything done and have more than 4 hearts with more than 1 person. But the 1 time you need an event to play out to get married the game won’t even tell you where this event is and you’ll have to google it and see where other players found it. At least that’s what I had to do for Yuri or run all over on every day of the week on every weather type until i finally got an event to trigger because it’s that convoluted that any one of those things could change whether the event triggers or not and without the event you can’t get married. If you were looking forward to dating any of the merfolk, have fun waiting til year 2 or 3 to even start this because you have to clear the entire ocean and then complete their missions to walk on land before you can fulfill all their requirements as well. It started out so good too it had some really good bones. And I loved how it made the genre its own with the addition of the ocean elements but they went for quantity over quality and it’s just too much. A game needs an ending. Not some endless daunting task. I get enough of that at work.

Love love love this game so much! Haven't had the time to explore the romance side of it, but that's the thing that made my recommend this game so much! Usually, in farming simulator games, I went straight to finding ways to get married but this game made me want to finish all the quests, upgrade my farm (both on land and underwater), and finish all the collections before looking for marriage. Also, as an Indonesian, it was absolutely surreal to see my culture integrated into the game. The grind is not easy but it is not impossible! It truly helps my boredom. Recommended it to a friend and he agreed. 10/10!

They really made an incredibly big farming type of game with this one and have fixed a ton of problems and bugs the game had at the start, which kept me from buying the game in the first place. My wife had already played it a lot and I just saw it crashing all the time. Nowadays it does no longer really do that much. (happened once to her while we played, I got spared) However, there is still a lot of room for improvements. We played it multiplayer and the game keeps on messing up kelp spawns and a few small other things here and there for anyone who isn't the host. They will see the the spawn, but it doesn't actually exist. I will see the spawns at different locations, but they will see nothing at that point. So the multiplayer still has some kinks that need fixing. I also encountered a bug in which an NPC wants to go on a date with the player, but the event doesn't trigger. You can't do anything in that state except moving around anymore. No dashing, no entering buildings, no nothing. Only opening your inventory/questlog etc. The only way to fix this is to eithe restart the game, or wait until 2am to pass out. After passing out, you'll see the normal screen showing you your level ups, money earned etc. and AFTER that the event that didn't trigger suddenly plays and it fixes itself. So if you wait you don't have to do everything again, but you'll be locked out of the rest of your day. I really like the auto sorting on chests, that it shows if you've donated, shipped or offered items already or that the game doesn't need you to raise animals, you just buy them and they're ready to go. That is always kind of a slog on other farming games. Everything gets tracked, wether it'd be crops, animal products, what you've donated, cooked or crafted! For some reason the shop in town that sells clothes can only sell you one of each type of clothes at once. I guess they wanted you to only be able to buy a completed set you made, but it was very annoying to figure out that I can't just scroll through and click on everything I wanted to buy... there is another way later though, which works easy. Positive is the sheer amount of content. There are so many storylines, so many quests, so many events, so much to do, to farm, to see... you'll never have enough time in any single ingame day, even slowed down to 50%. You really have to pick days in which you want to do specific things. Even doing it multiplayer while my wife already knew what to do, its still a ton of stuff and she probably cut my playtime in half by helping me out so much, that I pretty much didn't have to grind for anything except for the last achievements to ship 1000 of the same animal produce and to sell one of each item in the categories critters, crops and foraged. So even with all that out the way, the game still took me over 100h to complete! Filled with cutscenes, new content and things to discover! Sometimes I felt overwhelmed by how much there is to do, but you can just do these things one at a time as there is no real rush. It just takes time. A few things did feel like they wanted to add even more though. It feels like they just never got to it, stopped halfway through, or never even started aside from a single prompt when clicked on. I don't know if they'll update this game even more and if these things will get fleshed out in the future, as they've been working on this game for quite some time by now. But its definitely worth playing, especially if you like farming type of games and to spend a lot of time in that world!
