Despite playing for over 60 hours I can't recommend it if your intention is to play with others, because of the connection issues. I'm playing with my wife and random disconnections overshadows the general enjoyment this title gave us. You see, you can save the progress only when you sleep, which proceeds to the next day, so you don't want to sleep too often. So when you randomly disconnect from a multiplayer session your progress is reset to the previous day. There is no fallback, no "restore my progress" or anything upon reconnecting. So imagine that you picked up an expensive item, or have a lot of ore on you, because you want to smelt it and boom - you are disconnected out of nowhere - those things are lost, because you had it. The result is that you had to reset the whole day for everyone if you don't want to lose certain items. Had they resolved this issue, I would have gladly recommended it, as it gave a lot of joy PS. Works fine on Steam Deck, also in docked mode, although in that case don't go 4k

Dinkum is a location specific farming crafter where you are tasked with beginning and recruiting a population to a settlement in the Outback. Because the game is specific to Australia, if you're not familiar with certain terms, some tasks can be more difficult. Namely, if you don't understand local lingo for certain animals, you're better to hold off taking on any consignment which requires you to capture and send and animal for study. The townies you recruit are colourful with some good humour peppered into their dialogue and you get the standard variety of retailers/crafters who can become potential residents. Then threshold for them to state they want to move to your settlement seems to vary from person to person however, as though there is an intended order in which the game wants you to recruit new residents. You can recruit residents by availing of their services, talking to them, but mostly by doing them favours. There is also a bulletin board item which allows you to take on additional tasks for certain members, which can include combat with special aggressive animals. In Dinkum progression is made through crafting, fishing, farming, raising livestock, collecting bugs and other special items, logging, mining and cooking. The Good: The tasks are easy to understand when given to you and often involve collecting a certain insect or fish, or crafting basic items. However, sometimes the tasks provided are not nearly as easy to complete as you might think. Your approval rating can be impacted by accepting and then failing to follow through on a task for a resident/visitor, so choose wisely. This is definitely a case of...if you're never seen a fish, insect etc in the area, don't accept a quest until you know where they can be found because the residents/visitors are often very inaccurate about where you can locate what they're looking for. The Bad: There is no lock on system for the limited combat available in the game but all 'Alpha' enemies have a follow you in a circle like a top frontal attack (this kind of tracking is always unnecessary and is never available to a player character) and an AOE attack which makes combat at times frustrating when you're trying to keep track of an enemy who may be hidden by obstructions. The stamina system is unforgiving. If at any point you fully deplete your stamina, if you haven't eaten, it takes quite a while as your character wanders around like a zombie until the stamina completely refills again which can be fatal in a combat situation so be prepared. So on the whole Dinkum is a fun crafting/farming simulator with an element of town management thrown in, complete with debt for new residents buildings and all. There are some drawbacks to the game, things I personally wish had been improved before full lauch (which was a while ago I know!) but it is a relaxing game that makes watching your patch of brush turn into a thriving little town feel really rewarding. If you can be patient and not take on tasks without a thought (unless you're on a second playthrough), becoming a mogul and having a fully populated stretch of land is rewarding.

After 210 hours in Dinkum, I can confidently say this game has given me an incredible amount of fun. The mix of farming, building, exploring, fishing, hunting, mining, and simply developing your island makes it very easy to lose track of time.

Good game. Worth the money. A lot to do and grind for, as well as chilling. Few stupid things, but mods heavily improve this game further. Big up Fletch, fck John..

Like many other people have said its basically Australian Animal Crossing. Super fun and a great game and price for a small indie dev.

i like this game and i enjoy the vibe. this game absolutly hates that you have free time. this game makes everything take so much time to such an extent that i will never ever ever be able to build up a small town to look like a single one of the screen shot examples on the store page. look at my hours, how have i still not made it to even having roads/walk ways? every item looks the same, and is crazy crazy expensive. and unfortunatly it all seems to be a time sink and not really mitigated by items/upgrades. the game also has very few but still noticable frame drops or big hitches. wich is also really gross. tldr, game devs literally and factually hate your free time and made a game that all customization feels the same anyway. its cozy but empty and kinda boring.
