I really enjoyed the questline, except Ikora, she was actually useless the entire time and eris morn was literally just there to act like a clapping seal congratulating her on the supposed brilliance ikora showed. Ikora litterally spoke so vaguely about everything and her big secrete move to figuring it all out was ask mara sov. That being said I Savathun was an incredibly compelling villain and the addition of patterns was really fun.

Great campaign, great soundtrack, great environments and art direction, and much more. Plus Osteo Striga is still insanely powerful, and fun. Absolutely worth getting

I waited to write this review since it had been a minute since I played through it the first time on my main character. Since playing through it on my second character a couple weeks ago, I finally have the time to sit down and write it lol. THIS DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS!!! BEWARE!!! I was immediately excited to see us go back to mars, but I was a little sad to see nothing else come of it outside of the social (not really) space overlooking the temporal hiccups on the surface. I would've like to see more surface gameplay like in D1 or during Warmind, but whatever, I'll give props that there's nothing there to explore rather than implementing some half-baked attempt at D1 nostalgia bait. STORY: The story was interesting, again, I liked that we went back to Mars, and I liked that there were several cutscenes that explained the gaps in the story between DLCs to newer and returning players. Furthermore, I liked that there was intrigue built upon what the Scorn were doing in the throne world, how they got there, and what their motivations might be moving forward in the absence of Uldren and his Barons. Savathun's introduction and development were also well played out and it didn't seem like an afterthought or quickly thrown together for the sake of "le plot." SAVATHUN: Oh Sathona, you didn't deserve this. As I said, her introduction was well played out, when I first played through this I had already known who she was since I watched a lot of Byf and read the Grimoire cards from D1, but I didn't really know her place in the context of D2. That being said, I was really impressed with how Bungie implemented her into the story and developed her as a threat in general. I also liked how her plan wasn't so quickly see-through, at least to me anyway, and was a genuine plot twist in my eyes. It wasn't totally earth-shattering, but definitely something. Her getting got by the Witness before the Traveler finding her and her sisters was something I did NOT expect, and it made a lot of things about the Hive suddenly make so much sense. I like her character. FYNCH: Overall unimpressive, he's pretty shallow imo. I'm guessing there's some content with him that I missed in my several-year-long absence, but every D2 story recap that I've watched only mentions him a couple times, and only when explaining the first couple of missions he's introduced in. I didn't really like him all that much because he's so flat; there's no depth to him. He seems like just another character that Bungie added for the sake of "having someone on the inside" but couldn't find another way to do it. Mara: Perfect and sneaky as always THE VANGUARD: Watching Zavala and Ikora butt heads was interesting, especially during Zavala's little crashout on Mars. This added depth to both of their characters that I really liked, and showed the viewer (me lol) that there are more to those characters' limits and emotions than what they've been portrayed as for the last several years. This DLC was really good at showing me that the Vanguard are more than who they were when they were perched at the Tower in D1 since that's where most of my memories of them come from tbh. ERIS: Still the same Eris, but in a good way. She's helpful, and always where she's needed when she's needed there. W Eris THE THRONE WORLD: Not my favorite environment ngl. I don't really like the caves so much, and that one big open section in them where you have to shoot the orange orbs on the wall to light the path is really annoying to traverse. The caves in general aren't really enticing to me as a whole. I thought the Deepsight mechanic was interesting, and found a little frustration in trying to use it during the campaign, but that only made me want to get better at using it until I didn't have to anymore. After finishing the campain, I never really go back to the throne world unless I'm doing the raid, and even then, that's only when it's featured. One thing I DO like though is the split between the "castle-y" part and the swampy part. I like the distinct difference between the two and I feel like it gives the throne world a certain character that none of the other worlds have. OVERALL: I liked this DLC. The lore implications and gameaplay of it were certainly enjoyable overall, even if not at certain points. I liked how many of the well established characters were given a shake in their resolve and their bonds between each other tested, as well as seeing new characters introduced and fleshed out into the mainline story. The new environment brought new challenges to get used to. I liked seeing my favorite "Hive Taniks" Alak-hul make a return in a strike, and being able to fight lightbearers in a PvE environment. I found it profoundly interesting and really fulfilling to see what it'd look like if another race had the gift of the Light. Would I recommend you buy this if you haven't already? Absolutely. Would I pay full price for it? Ehhh... If you just got paid and got some cash to spare, sure, but if not I'd probably wait for a sale. Seeing as how the last one made it almost free and idk when the next one would be, it's not that big a deal if you missed the sale. Go ahead and get it. Is it replayable? Certainly. I didn't really have too much trouble replaying through it on my second character, and I know it'll be really fun to play through on my third.
