Dying Light 2: Stay Human

1 / 8

It’s been 20 years since the events of the original game. The virus won, and humanity is slowly dying. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim who delivers goods, brings news, and connects the few remaining survivor settlements in barren lands devastated by the zombie virus.

However, your true goal is to find your little sister Mia, who you left behind as a kid to escape Dr. Waltz's torturous experiments. Haunted by the past, you eventually make the decision to confront it when you learn that Mia may still be alive in Villedor — the last city standing on Earth.

You quickly find yourself in a settlement torn by conflict. You’ll need to engage in creative and gory combat, so hone your skills to defeat hordes of zombies and make allies. Roam the city, free run across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot in remote areas, and be wary of the night. With every sunset, monsters take control of the streets.

Fifteen years ago, humanity was devastated by the Fall — a catastrophic event that would change the world forever. With the Harran virus spreading around the globe, people quickly found out that all hope for tomorrow is lost. By 2036, only a few settlements remain, and humanity is slowly dying, making way for the new species out there — a horde of relentless zombies.

Welcome to Villedor, one of the last bastions of humanity. During the day, survivors still try to have a life here and find a false sense of normalcy. Relationships are formed, dreams are dreamed, and life carries on.

On the surface, everything seems… fine. Until sunset, that is. With the last ray of light dying out, other, more dreadful, dwellers of The City crawl out of their gloomy interiors, taking over the streets. If you are not vigilant and stay out too long in the dark, you may never return.

Not all fights can be won. Sometimes it’s best to run and, thankfully, you have the skills for it. Parkour lets you escape when odds are not in your favor.

Jump from rooftop to rooftop, swing across the cityscape, ride ziplines, and much more. Whatever you do, experience a unique sense of freedom as you freerun across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot or while running away from the dangers of the night.

In a world as dangerous as this one, only the strongest survive. Whether you prefer to smash, slice or dismember those who stand in your way, you have to be creative about it to make it through. And who says you need weapons?

Utilize the entirety of your parkour moveset to get the jump on your enemies. Learn the ways of combat and parkour to feel the crunch of skulls and slices of flesh as you swing weapons or use your moves to fend off any forms of danger. And let’s not forget that Villedor has weapons that put the most advanced post-apocalyptic armories to shame.

Surviving in Villedor is easier with friends. Team up with up to 3 other players and increase your chances out there. Unravel the story together, take on Pilgrim Outpost challenges, or simply wreak havoc on the city streets.

As an old returning player coming back to Dying Light 2 after two years away, I am absolutely furious. I bought the game on Steam again to support the developers and experience the story from the beginning, only to discover that Techland has completely gutted the original opening prologue. The walk through the forest mansion with Spike, the Kyle Crane lore drop, and the intense first-night chase are all gone. These weren't meaningless tutorial scenes they were a huge part of the atmosphere, storytelling, and emotional foundation of the game. What makes this so frustrating is the reasoning behind it. If the goal was to help new players who just want to jump straight into co-op, YOU ALREADY HAD A “SKIP PROLOGUE” BUTTON! Why permanently remove the content instead of simply letting players choose? Anyone who wanted to skip the opening could already do so, while players who actually wanted to experience the story could enjoy it. There was no reason to take that choice away from everyone. The original prologue also served an important purpose narratively. It built the tension gradually, established the world, gave context to Aiden's journey, and connected the experience to the history of the franchise. Removing that buildup doesn't just make the game shorter it makes the opening feel hollow and creates gaps that hurt the immersion. I genuinely appreciate the visual upgrades and physics improvements, but it's incredibly frustrating to see those improvements come alongside the removal of content that gave the game character. After supporting Dying Light since the beginning, coming back two years later expecting to relive that experience and finding out that part of it has simply been erased is deeply disappointing. You didn't need to remove the prologue. You needed to let players choose whether they wanted to skip it.New players could have skipped it, and longtime fans could have experienced the story the way it was originally designed. That choice should never have been taken away.

While Dying Light 2: Stay Human has some interesting changes and has had and still have a rollercoaster in the way it's handled by Techland, it still scratches right where it itches in a satisfying way. The first Dying Light game is something I ranked Game of the Decade. For me a S-tier game without a single doubt. FYI: I have only played this game on Nightmare difficulty with Physical Parkour and HUD preset set to Action + Nightmare. That's my experience of the game. I LOVED and still LOVE Dying Light, and when a sequal was annouced I was THRILLED, EXCITED and as happy as a child is on Christmas Day morning but I was hesitant. I did pre-order the first game when it first came around but I didn't with Dying Light 2. I held off for a really long time because of the disaster that followed the launch of the game. I just couldn't take myself to be a part of it. I just observed everything, waited and had my hopes up that Techland would listen to the community and fans of the IP and start to change things. Dying Light 2 was so criticized for the longest time and had alot of problems, but when they annonunced the new game Dying Light: The Beast as being included FOR FREE with the previously available Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2. When announced I finally bought the Ultimate Edition back in 2024 before it got delisted to not miss such a great deal and now I'm finally playing through this game and I'm having a really great time. Dying Light 2 has gone through a major glow up, many issues previously present has been addressed and many things that caused concern is no longer in the game. The game is not perfect but it's in a far better state than back when it released in 2022. Stealth has been fixed, nights have been fixed, guns has been added, loadouts and gear transmogs has been added, parkour has been fixed and expanded upon, the world has been changed, intro was changed twice; once for the better with more depth to the prologue and then just recently they removed the whole prologue instead. NG+ was added and nightmare difficulty was added and the previous prologue has been removed? Removed? Why? HELLO?! WHAT IS HAPPENING? No one knows for sure why but something about the narrative for The Beast that has to fit in to the bigger picture. Really bad change in my opinion. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3812166842 Either way I'm having a blast playing the game, I don't get the negative spin that people have over the story, I like the story alot and the characters are not forgettable, quite the opposite and so far I like the antagonist Waltz, atleast where I am so far in the story being around 100+ hours into the game. I've just made it into the Central Loop and It's great. I have mostly been playing around without really doing the main questline. I do 100% recommend this game, especially with all the changes that has happened since launch. The game is in a good enough state that I'm having an amazing time playing. Combat feels great, weapons feel responsive and powerful, zombies feel scary, humans feels dangerous, world feels alive, music and atmosphere in the game is lovely. the gore is AO-rated for sure. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3814661463 One major issue that is recurring is the constant crashing of the game. Game freezes suddenly and then crashes without warning whenever. The first three times I just booted the game and continued where I was so suddenly abrupted but it's starting to get really annoying, even though starting the game doesn't take long, It's still frustrating and annoying as hell. Game is as of now a B+ tier and it's really great, pick it up and give it a try. I doubt you will be disappointed if you liked the first game. This game is different and requires some adjusting in combat and movement, but once you get the flow of the show, you really get a great show. Be sure to check out Pilgrims Outpost aswell! Alot of extra content, mostly cosmetics but also weapons, trinkets and dockets are available for grabs in both Dying Light, Dying Light 2 & Dying Light: The Beast! Look up Docket codes and follow along with the events that occur from time to time with in-game rewards for the community in form of outfits, weapons and charms. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3810471767 "Sometimes You Have To Become A Monster To Stay Human." - Aiden
