TLDR Full Spectrum Warrior is a first person tactical shooter that manages to be quite enjoyable and well-balanced, even for people who don't usually play games in this genre, right up until you get to the final mission. The Good The general atmosphere and style of the game is very cohesive and immersive. If one of your squad mates gets downed, you can carry them back to a med evac point to get them patched up, which strikes a nice balance between "unforgivingly realistic" and "boringly easy". Flanking works very well. Controls are easy to learn. Tutorial is good. The Bad The AI is a cheating BEEP sometimes. I have seen them rebound my grenades, shoot me through solid cover, and no-sell six grenade launcher blasts to the face that should have hit, according to the game's UI. For 11/12 missions, this was little more than an occasional annoyance, but then you get to the final mission... I spent almost two hours on this one before calling it quits and happily not thinking about it until I sat down to write this review. Most of the enemies in this mission can only be hit by the grenade launcher, which only seems to work as intended about 5% of the time. Rarely does a game make me feel like I wasted hours of my life, but this last mission unfortunately did. The Ugly Surprisingly, nothing. Despite its age, this game actually ran really well on my PC from 2021, so kudos to the devs for future proofing this one.
