Sadly the newly added microtransaction items ruined the game for me, it cheapens the experiance and is a slippary slope. Selling a bell that summons a vendor wherever you are aswell as infinite identification and salave kits for real money is crazy to me.

An all-time classic MMO-lite. Whether you played it back in the day and are returning, or are just now hearing about it, it's worth picking up for the sheer amount of quality content you get here. You get the base game plus the major expansions, and between all of those and their unique starting areas, there's plenty of fun to be had. The combat system, especially early and mid-game, is excellent, with very interesting skill effects and a limited number of slots making each decision matter in terms of build planning. Over the course of the game, you go on to add a number of hero characters and henchmen to your party, developing a whole party composition and adjusting it to tackle the threats at hand. I've heard it described as feeling like a deck-builder, so if you're into those types of games you should feel right at home with this system. The game is dual-class as well, so you get two classes' worth of options to choose from at any given time. Graphics are old for sure, but in most cases have a timeless quality that holds up to this day. At the time it came out, around the original MMO boom with WoW, Runescape, Everquest 2, etc, I'd say it was a step above those visually. This being a "Reforged" version really has less to do with it being a "remake", and more like resumed development, so the devs are frequently adding features, rebalancing skills, and even bringing new content. There's a few early-game missions that are fresh to this version of the game, as well as Hardcore and Ironman challenges. As far as I know you do still have the option as well to make a "non-reforged" character, which preserves the original state of the game from before they picked up development again, if you so chose. The game isn't without its negatives though. As some recent reviews point out, they added gameplay-affecting MTX to the game, when previously there was none, and a big appeal of Guild Wars was its box price - buy once, play forever model. It's certainly not literally Pay to Win in the sense that you're buying player power or could clear content others could not, but yeah, they are selling convenience items now. Also, recall that I said it was the early and mid game where the combat really shines? This does not apply to the late missions in the campaigns, where encounters are tuned so ridiculously that even with the best armor and plenty of buff spells, you essentially just get your entire party oneshotted if certain mobs breathe on you a certain way, and you get severely shoehorned into very specific builds to even have a chance of killing any group of enemies. I ended up having to get a carry on the last mission of the Prophecies campaign, but if you plan on playing that far and going all the way, protip: pick Mesmer as either your primary or secondary class. It quickly becomes a mandatory pick to have a lot of in your party, with very specific skill compositions. Those mtx additions and unfun lategame experiences are not enough though to make me not want to recommend this game though, since the rest of it besides that is all-time classic, and between the three campaigns each with their own completely separate world maps, you'll have plenty to play and enjoy before running into Guild Wars's faults.

A timeless masterpiece. Its design is a stark contrast to modern MMOs (and particularly its successor) in that it rewards methodical gameplay and punishes impatience.

L'âge d'or du RPG en ligne est toujours vivant! Plus de 3 000 heures de jeu cumulées sur l'original, et ces premières heures sur cette version Reforged confirment ce que je pensais déjà : ce titre reste le meilleur jeu en ligne de tous les temps. Le passage sur cette édition apporte une mise à niveau technique moderne et fluide qui fonctionne parfaitement. Alors oui, les ajouts restent plutôt légers, et la traduction française souffre encore de quelques ratés. Le jeu a ses défauts et accuse parfois son âge sur certains aspects. Mais sur l'essentiel, c'est un sans-faute inégalé : -Un système de classes et de compétences unique offrant une théorie de builds quasi infinie. -Un vrai challenge tactique, où la réflexion et la synergie de groupe l'emportent sur le simple grind. -Une profondeur de gameplay d'une richesse devenue extrêmement rare dans les productions actuelles. Que vous soyez un vétéran nostalgique ou un curieux en quête d'un monument du jeu vidéo, l'expérience reste magistrale. Recommandé sans l'ombre d'un doute.

Old school MMO but with controller support. Its much better than I expected it to be even all these years later. GWR is totally worth the price of admission.

This game holds a special place in my heart—it was my very first MMO, and I spent probably thousands of hours playing it with friends as a teen. One of the best things was that it didn't require a subscription fee. It’s so cool that it’s still being supported today with the "Reforged" update. The build crafting remains top-tier, and I love that you can clear content completely solo by setting up your own team of heroes, each with handcrafted builds, which is especially great today since the player count naturally isn't as high as it used to be. These days, I just love kicking back on the couch, playing casually with a controller, and enjoying the nostalgic journey.

I remember playing this game for the first time with my friend, Greg! This was in 2005 when we were struggling to grasp any strong sense of enjoyment from Warcraft. It was a pivot after we couldn't get into WoW or it's play style at the time; not a single regret in shifting towards the GW universe back then. 21 years later and I still find myself coming back to this game. And the fact they still keep it updated and add new content knowing they have only recently announced GW3 is insane to me. Guild Wars is a game I will always come back to. What an amazing universe with a great dev team behind it

Classic game, but still fun. Have to play with the volume up though because the soundtrack is truly one of the highlights of the game. I have played this game since a few weeks after release and re-purchased it on steam to make it easier to run in Linux. Protondb lists this as platinum and there are no tweaks you have to do in order to get this to run perfectly. Highly recommend.
