How can you sell this to people WITHOUT THE MULTIPLAYER!? Almost bought a copy for me and my friend until I saw the notice the servers aren't live anymore in this MULTIPLAYER focussed game. Crazy they think people will still pay for this, ''Own the full experience'' what a joke

5/10. Not exactly my favorite NFS game. The story is very weak and almost nonexistent, and while I found the progression system interesting in concept, it just didn't really work for me. Playing through either the Racer or Cop campaign doesn't take particularly long, and the difficulty never gets too crazy. The real problem comes with the cleanup afterwards. A lot of it becomes repetitive and mundane, and pushing all the way to level 60 feels like something you're doing purely for the trophy/achievement rather than because there's any real reason to do it. Once you've seen most of what the game has to offer, there's not much motivation left besides ticking boxes. And somehow, after all these years, the game still has a surprising amount of bugs. The driving itself can still be fun, and there are some genuinely good ideas here, but the progression, lack of story and repetitive cleanup made this one a pretty mediocre NFS experience for me.

Honestly worth a casual quick play-through just to experience basically the last "Burnout"-style Need For Speed. At this point it feels more like Battlefield with cars but the presentation is top-notch, The main issue is you will have many technical bugs including System Issues like freezes, crashes and the sorts + gameplay bugs such as cars appearing out of nowhere and getting stuck outside the map, AI not being able to traverse jumps, etc... A lot of this can be alleviated with Frosty Mod Manager and PC Game Wiki suggestions but still... I 100%'d this today (99.4% on both cop and racer, then manual multiplayer car unlock with Mod Manager) and rate it a solid 7/10.

4/10. The game has a very cool concept, allowing you to play as cops or illegal racers with active abilities that add dynamic gameplay and make it stand out from other racing games. The races are highly adrenaline-fueled and, at times, epic. However, game design decisions combined with technical issues (bugs, a 30 FPS lock, spontaneous teleportation of enemy cars, civilian cars rendering at very close distances with almost no reaction time left, falling through the map, etc.) make the game more frustrating than fun. Perhaps in its prime it worked better when the online component was still active, but right now, with the servers down and the game played purely offline, I cannot recommend it due to the series of problems present. I'll also note that this NFS entry features a very aggressive rubber-banding system: bots in most events slow down if you fall behind so you can catch up, but if you break ahead, a bot that crashed right in front of your eyes during the race will overtake you at insane speed 10 seconds later—even if you took turns cleanly, used nitro, and didn't crash into anything. In the NFS series, seeing such mechanics in a 2004 game was acceptable, but for a 2013 game, rubber banding feels very poor and bad practice. When playing as the police, it is very noticeable that NPC racer cars have completely different physics than the player's car: if certain active abilities are used against the player, the car spins out or gets knocked sideways very easily; but if you use those same abilities against bots, they barely shift off their trajectory. It feels as if the bots weigh as much as tanks, while your car weighs as much as a pillow. There are also questions regarding the damage system: a bot might lose control and stop in the middle of the track, and if you ram them at 200+ km/h, they sometimes lose 50% health, and other times just 10%. Additionally, there are situations where a heavy side slam against a bot's car deals no damage at all, yet a light scrape can take off 30% of its health. This instability and unpredictability in dealing damage doesn't do the game any favors, especially since it is one of the core mechanics—particularly during the police career mode. Another thing I disliked is the system where crashing into anything other than enemy vehicles strips away player control for about 5 seconds to show a crash cutscene. This is one of the most annoying game design elements in the gaming industry in general—taking away character/vehicle control from the player. Plus, helplessly watching a 5-second cutscene while opponents pass you isn't pleasant in itself (though due to rubber banding, opponents will wait for you to catch up anyway). Some might say such crash penalties force the player to drive more carefully and technically, and I partly agree, but when you enter a sharp corner and can't see where a civilian car is, or when the game spawns a civilian vehicle just a few meters in front of you, there's no time left to react. Getting a 5-second cutscene every time a car spontaneously appears around a bend is not cool and causes nothing but frustration. The game has its strong points, but unfortunately, a lot of things don't work as they should. I would love to see a similar game someday, but with these flaws fixed.

Most Under-Appreciated NFS Game Rivals is the best creation by Ghost & Criterion. It has some of the most visceral risk to reward gameplay I have ever experienced in any racing game. One slight mistake and it's over. Your reward is gone, and your efforts are worthless. Want to go out there and earn some cash? You gotta risk your life because the cops in Rivals are BRUTAL as hell. This game ain't no joke. I was genuinely impressed by the AI of the cops and racers. They behave based on how you approach them. Story It is presented in such a cryptic and suspenseful way that it makes you feel like your life depends on it. The way the story is shown from both the Racer and Cop perspectives while they say their dialogues in garage is just executed brilliantly. I absolutely loved the story presentation and music of Rivals. Gameplay It's fairly decent, but as you rank up and unlock better supercars, you will love Rivals more than anything. The handling gets better too. Also, to unlock 30 FPS, you just need to copy paste a launch command. I recommend locking it to 60 FPS, because going above 60 breaks the game's physics and will mess with your driving. Launch Command to Unlock 30 FPS -GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60.0 Highly Recommended : 9.5/10

Unlocking frame rate bugs pursuits / cop chases, and also certain races. Game is still playable after all these years. MP was a wasted concept - it could have been so much better.

Game is locked at 30 fps and physics are tied to the framerate, most you can squeeze is 60 fps with some compromises. Also they killed the multiplayer and still advertising this game as online coop. Sail the high seas and use mods for online play.
