Human Blender 2: Black is the sequel to Human Blender and Human Blender: Black. You play as Ryu Hayabusa, the most heroic mass murderer to ever live. After a character named Sonia is ambushed by the Black Spider Clan while looking for Ryu, he comes to her rescue and then goes on a killing spree across the world, it just sort of gets worse after his hidden village is attacked and an ancient relic that keeps the Arch fiend locked away is stolen. That’s basically the story. Ninja Gaiden 2: Black is kind of a lie in marketing. Using the subtitle “Black” was a re-release thing for the original Ninja Gaiden back on the Xbox. It added stuff like third person camera controls, new modes, new difficulties, new weapons, and I can’t remember if it was in NG1 as well but you could unlock and play the original 2D Ninja Gaiden games in an arcade you can find later in the game. This is more like a graphical upgrade to Ninja Gaiden 2: Sigma, which was the PS3 release of the original game. This time they decided to move away from the stupid shadow dismemberment and just put the hyper gore back in. Which is cool because half the fun is turning every room you fight in red or green. You also get the extra chapters from Sigma where you play as Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji. Which is cool. Its a third person action game like Devil May Cry if Nero and Dante decided that they have a need for speed and just go jumping everywhere. Ryu has a nice assortment of moves, being able to run up and on the side of walls. You can do stuff like bounce off enemy heads, block and counter attacks, dodge, use dumb ninja magic. But the main draw is the sword play. I refuse to believe anyone would actually get into a confined space with Ryu willingly, this man is a psychopath. During combat, you have a (Very high) chance of removing limbs from an opponent, when their limb is gone you usually did enough damage to take them out completely with a finishing move. These are always NASTY, since Ryu tends to behead or bisect anyone he doesn’t like. Which is mostly everyone. Its a good time, its fast and action packed and those 8 hours it took me to finish the game didn’t feel like 8 hours. So what’s wrong? Well for one, this isn’t Ninja Gaiden 2, this is Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, if you’re looking for the original, borderline Dynasty Warriors level of enemy encounters game, then you’re not going to find it here. There was a lot of things that made the original NG2 a ball buster, if you really want to know the differences between the two, then you can find comparison videos online that will do a better job explaining it than I can. If this really was a definitive NG2 experience then I wonder why they didn’t add both versions of the game, let me have the Sigma and the “Dirk needs to stop living in real life” experience. Also, this game runs like doo doo paper. I don’t have the beefiest machine in the world but I feel like it should run fine at “Ps5” settings. Stutters and frame drops are common, I ended up finding a fan fix online that fixed most of the issues, so I don’t really understand what the developers were doing with the game’s optimization. Maybe they just didn’t care. I’m starting to suspect that’s the case with a lot of UE5 games. Which I feel like is a gamble considering Steam has refunds. I said in another review that the most common Desktop GPU is a 3000 series, so maybe focus on that as a benchmark. Especially now a days when you have to sell organs just to get computer parts. I couldn’t really get a bead on WHY exactly I was losing frames, It just seemed to have been from level to level. Sometimes I had a solid frame rate, other times it was erratic, I could never pin down exactly what the problem was. Also I feel like the extra missions exist for people that finished the game back on the 360. Late game bosses tend to show up in those so it just kind of confused me playing them. But other than that, yeah, NG2B is still a fun time, just maybe test the gameplay before you commit. You can usually get it for “Playstation Greatest Hits” prices, so wait for a sale or buy it from a different online store. Or, you know, the usual. Ninja Gaiden 2: Black gets 7 dismembered Ninja out of 10. The Dragon Sword is the coolest Katana in video games. That’s not a fun fact, I just didn’t have one for this review. The Dirk Clan always gets wiped out but its just so we can avoid taxes.

Never got to play the OG so I obviously can't speak to how this compares, but as a newcomer to the NG series I loved this game. The visuals are really nice and imo a huge upgrade to Sigma 2. I'm not good enough to play through on Master Ninja but normal and hard difficulties are fun and the extra challenges add a good amount of replayability.

This is the most responsive, fastest paced hacknslash game I've come across. I recommend for fans of the genre

NG2S if it was more like the original game, coated in the usual issues of UE5 games like stuttering, or just simply running way worse than you would expect on capable hardware. For the first time in the series a mainline title supports 120 fps, which you won't reach without framegen being enabled, however this puts another layer of input lag on top of the already abysmal amount the game seemingly has by default, at which point it starts to feel like you aren't controlling the game anymore but rather giving vague directions to it and sometimes it listens, while sometimes it just eats your inputs. Even with these issues though, its a very faithful remaster that fixes many issues with Sigma 2, so I can't help but give it a positive rating.

Maybe it could be a bit closer to the OG Ninja Gaiden 2, but I don't really feel like complaining that much. The new graphics are awesome and it has been a joy to revisit and enjoy once again this masterpiece.
