I am giving this game a negative Review, not because I think its bad, but because Frontier's greedy DLC policy which doesn't allow you to buy bundles for yourself and "complete the set" if you already own part of the bundle. Instead they want you to buy every single DLC separately. Even Paradox allows that, which is saying something. Will not buy any other game from Frontier until they change that.

All'inizio pensavo di costruire uno zoo.

pathing in this game is infuriating, how can you be a game dev and play your own game and not realize most important part of your game (pathing) is a pile of ♥♥♥♥. Come on people, as a dev how can you actually walk away from this game to a finished product and then have years to make a better way and DO NOTHING. Sad really. Also why is it snowing in may in Florida? Really stupid feature.

Practically every system in this game is frustratingly unintuitive, especially if you're like me and prefer to dive straight into Sandbox Mode. The worst cases being the fences and paths...arguably the most important things for a zoo to have, and the things that should definitely be simple to use, yet here I feel like I have no creative control over what the fences and paths are doing, so I just end up with a zoo full of practically-identical blobs. Foliage has a very similar problem, there doesn't seem to be any brush tool, so I have to place all the plants in an enclosure manually, and it hardly ever looks good. Terraforming (and by extension water features for enclosures) is yet another unintuitive process, which is incredibly frustrating when I'm trying to make a lake or something similar for animals to swim in, and the next thing I know, I'm digging a tunnel under the encloser that I neither need nor want. I could honestly go on and on, but to keep things relatively short, I simply cannot play this game for very long without getting frustrated and/or board because of how unintuitive basically every system in this game is for some reason. The animals look great, and the filtering for animal-specific enrichment is handy, as is the ability to snap paths to the sides of fences, but none of those features outweigh the frustration I feel when trying to do something as simple as build a nice looking enclosure.

Planet Zoo 35-100+ hours to complete, Planet Zoo is probably the best and most realistic zoo management and building sim I will ever play in my lifetime. With planet Zoo 2 coming out and this game being sold for $2, I ended up finally checking it out and ended up doing almost nothing else for an entire two weeks. The animals are incredibly realistic and you have a ridiculous amount of freedom to create elaborate habitats and builds. You can build underground (the game is kinda finciy about it, beware) and make some lovely Skywalks, small single animal habitats or large multi species safari zone that npcs can go inside with scheduled tours. You can do petting zoos, exhibit areas with smaller animals such as iguanas, spiders, frogs, centipedes, scorpions, use premade buildings or go to the construction tab and make something yourself. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3778771975 While I still highly recommend Planet Zoo if you think this is a game you would probably enjoy, beware, this game has a lot of bugs, to the point one career scenario was almost unbeatable for me since apparently, I found all of them. In “Myers Lake Island” my keepers refused to feed any of the animals regardless of how many keepers I had, where the food bowls were placed, or how many keeper huts I built. Thankfully I could still put down “Food Enrichment Items” such as puzzle feeders and grazing balls, but the issue inexplicably fixed itself halfway through the scenario for reasons I could never figure out. My mandrills also constantly died of dehydration after I merged two habitats together and relocated the other animals, which for some reason made the water unreachable despite every water pipe being marked as “accessible.” https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3780691382 Aside from that, I still really enjoyed the rest of the game, particularly Franchise mode where you got to sell and buy animals from other players to make a zoo. The pathing was frustrating and there were definitely moments where I wanted to throw the entire game into the sun, but tbh the game is fun enough it’s worth putting up with. I can understand why this game has such a dedicated playerbase and if you think this is something you would like playing, Planet Zoo is absolutely worth your time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3786122550 If you liked this review and want to read about similar games or just support me on my journey of playing my entire Steam backlog, you can join my curator group, Rune's Reviews! One of the worst building systems I've ever seen, if you want to build something yourself and not copy paste from workshop you have to literally build it brick by brick while fighting the editor every single step of the way
