Overview/I am biased and I don't care My favorite faction, the Boron, fmake their glorious return in a sizable expansion to the universe. An expansion that is definitely worth its full price and an absolute steal when discounted. No cheaping out here, every aspect has been lovingly designed to have our aquatic friends (or enemies, if you so inclined) fit in with the rest of the community. Well... almost every aspect. Story Why didn't we see any Boron before? Were they hiding or was there another reason for their absence? You'll have to find out for yourself, I'm not here to spoil it. What I am going to say is that the missions are absolute cinema. From having to fly through an entire sector on a set path with surgery-level precision, with nothing but tense ambient music, up until llarge-scale battles with capital ships, this one is pulling no punches and has something for everyone. Graphics & Music The new ships look as sleek as they should be. The Boron always had a habit of building their ships in a hydrodynamic shape, as the newest iteration is no different. Make no mistake, we didn't get a copypaste here, these are fresh designs across the board, but the general design language still shines through. The soundtrack... well, I don't really know what to say. Does anyone really expect anything but musical excellence at this point? Return To Kingdom End had me in tears. Granted, epic music is one of my weak points, but still, arriving to Kingdom End to that soundtrack MANY years after I played X3 was beautiful. The bad That said, the content has an issue, and it's no small one. To support the story, the Boron are in a rather remote location of the universe, with Kingdom End being at least a full four jumps away from the main universe. This results in them having virtually no impact on the overall economy, since they will dispatch few, if any, traders. It also harms the atmosphere, seeing how I'm not really feeling any impact of my actions. On the plus side, the Boron's economy is basically self-contained, you won't have to worry about building ships there... Verdict Despite its shortcomings, this DLC is great. Sure, the impact on the sandbox isn't as large as I'd like it to be, but it has great missions, a good storyline, my favorite species and sweet new ships. A great expansion, get it if you feel like you could use the extra content.

I can't recommend this. Which is sad. It's got new regions, new ships etc. BUT it plays the same way as the intro to Farnham's Legacy. Lots of "go from here to there, pick something up, come back" missions. So much unskippable dialogue and all the characters are amazingly chatty. In short, it is slow and dull. I mainly bought this because I can't work out how to build my own HQ and online comments said that this provided one. It did but I can't figure out how to use it. But the worst thing are a couple of missions (so far). You get a mission to deliver something to a certain place. It's a hazardous region so after the last mission, I had retreated. A message arrived saying there was a mass attack. By the time I got there, my allies had won easily. I had added zero value. The same issue is when my allies launched a mass attack. Incredibly slow travel with groups of enemies appearing. Then another mass of enemies appeared. I just docked at the allied carrier and watched as the allies killed all the enemy. Again I added no value. Honestly, you can just dock at the carrier and then leave the game running while you go cook and eat dinner. You won't have missed anything important unless you want to rack up kills. I hope the intro quest doesn't last much longer. I'm getting bored not only of the DLC but of X4 itself.
