Well. It just doesnt work. I spent about 2 hours troubleshooting, trying to rename files, checking integrity, and other stuff. Game crashes before the first cinematic ends. Same spot, every single time. Even if i fix it, it wont be gearbox achievement, so negative review is the only one it deserves. Doesnt matter how much better than original game it is, it just doesnt work. I have 25 hours in the game, i dont remember playing it, but i assume that it was when the game just came out, and i had Windows 10 by that time. And MAYBE it worked on windows 10. EDIT! I just pirated the game and it WORKS PERFECTLY FINE on Windows 11. Why do paying customers get MUCH WORSE experience than people who steal the game?

OK. I love this game for a few reasons. First off... the humour is continuous througout the game which I find lacking in the second and third installments personally. Second, the gameplay itself is very excellent. The DLC's are great and fun to play. I have played this game over and over and never have gotten bored, always new weapons to find. Overall.. excellent game, fun to play!

This recommendation would largely mimic my review that I originally made of the original game over a decade and a half ago. It is still fun to come back to the original game in 2026. In fact, I'm doing so with a party of three as of this week. You don't have to spend ten times the amount to get a core Borderlands experience. This does the job more than fine, despite its age. Granted, it does have its fair share of jank with this release (online needing some CFG file tampering with other players, collision being odd at times, etc.) but after going through the rest of the games in the franchise, the original game ends up being a very solid experience. The gunplay is the key focus of these games and, for the most part, is very fun and serviceable. Admittedly, it's better with the later games in the release and some of the synergy and systems that they made between games 2, PS and 3 are likely superior but you can have some serious fun with the simplicity in this release. In fact, it has a skill leveling system that is unique to this game in the franchise, something they did away with in terms of 'the more you use a type of weapon, the more proficient you'll become'. Not entirely certain if that's a good or bad thing this many years on but I never had a problem with it in comparison to the buff system that they use now which is largely just random percentage buffs you get every so often based on challenges you clear on the newer games. Your mileage may vary. For being the first game in the series, this really is it in a distilled form with no substitutes. It's where I wish the franchise was close to today - a wild west space shooter in comparison to what feels like knockoff Halo with the newer games. If you got tired of the story and cheesy dialogue that constantly plagues the newer releases from 2 and on but you never gave the original game a shot because people overwhelming said 'start with 2 and play only 2', or similar, then take a step back and play this game. And if you've never played a single title in the series but are very interested in first-person shooters and looters similar to Diablo, then this is a fine entry point in the franchise. This game consistently rotates around the five dollar mark and includes every aspect of the original release, now reworked in HD with modern networking. If you enjoy this title, you'll likely enjoy the rest of them with varying degrees of success or disappointment. How far you go in this game will likely determine how diehard of a fan you'll become - this was most certainly the genesis for my fandom, for better or worse.

One of the best games I've played in my life, first played it on the 360 and now as a 19 year old, I'm happy I got to re-experience it. It's definitely worth your time if you want to get into BL

Great game with amazing story telling and the writing is actually top tier and funny. I could spend hundreds of hours in this world and never get bored of it. Amazing start to a brilliant franchise. I would highly recommend playing this game if you haven't its one of the better RPG games out there.

BL 1, 2, and Pre-Sequel are all fantastic games. Excellent replay and a lot of great DLC's. There's tons of content on youtube if you want to check it out before purchase.
