Dex Some people compare this to Deus Ex. For me this is more like Splinter Cell from twenty years ago running on an old Nokia phone. I think the RPG side is more interesting than in Deus Ex, even if the gameplay can feel a bit clunky at times. Still, I was positively surprised. Pros - The plot is good, and it feels like genuine effort went into the storytelling. The story is a bit clichéd, but the interactions with other characters make it feel genuine. - One of the most intricate and believable cyberpunk worlds in a video game. You can buy condoms, sell porn mags and give antidepressants to a homeless guy. - The map lets you fast-travel! - You can experiment and approach situations in different ways. - Once you get invested in the world, it's hard to stop playing. - The 2D world feels about the right size. You can explore and do some side activities if you want, but it's not so big that you get lost, either. - There's replay value if you want to try allocating skill points differently. - The music is great and fits the atmosphere. Cons - Combat has some weird inconsistencies. Sometimes you can stealth kill four enemies in a row without any problems, but other times the game seems to decide that's not happening and you end up spending 30 magnum rounds and two health packs clearing the same area. This can happen even when you load the same save twice. - Health station placement can be weird. Sometimes there are none around when you need them, while other times they seem to be around every corner. - Stealth and exploration become tedious after the first few hours. You often have no idea where to go, so you end up checking every room. Most rooms have little more than a closet and some toilet paper. You find terminals that give you yet another email or a simple note after a hacking minigame. The dock area is the worst example of exploration without much payoff: you enter a room and an enemy starts shooting at you immediately. Many rooms contain nothing but cameras and security guards. The endgame takes this to another level, with one door requiring several security cards and even seemingly empty rooms packed with guards, turrets and cameras. At some point it starts feeling ridiculous. - Movement and melee combat can feel clunky and take some time to get used to. It can take even a full playthrough to realize how some of the mechanics work. - Ladder climbing is buggy. - There's too much hacking. It takes forever, and the payoff is too small for the time you have to spend on it. - Personally, I prefer my story missions to be more linear than they are in this game. I ended up clearing several areas before I was supposed to because the instructions were iffy and the quest descriptions were roundabout. It's not too bad, but it slows the game down at certain points. - Stealth doesn't always work as you'd expect. There's no clear indication of whether enemies have spotted you. You can hide behind containers, but sometimes a brute will just come and smack you anyway. Overall, though, stealth is tolerable and you don't have to spend too much time crouching and sneaking. I only found out late in the game that you can actually crouch and cross paths with some enemies without them noticing anything. - Combat balancing has other issues, too. Enemies don't take fall damage, and fights can take forever if you run out of ammo and have to rely on melee attacks without any melee upgrades. One hit against a strong enemy barely takes 3% off its health, yet you can't take it down quietly. Meanwhile, it can kick and slam you from a ridiculous distance, taking more than 10% of your health with a single hit. You can pick up all kinds of ammo, but usually you can't take a gun from a dead enemy. How weird is that? Neutral - Hacking feels like an intricate minigame that's better than in most games, but I don't like how quickly the MC runs out of focus. - Some of the dialogue is really good, while other parts consist of awkward, three-word sentences. Sometimes you get a boring conversation with a character you end up having to kill anyway, making you wonder how much the dialogue actually mattered. - The game has voice acting, but with the default audio settings, loud music can drown out some of the dialogue. Verdict It's a solid cyberpunk RPG with good storytelling, although the endgame is a bit weird, missions are kinda hard to follow here and there, and the combat is not great but tolerable. Final score: 7/10

Runs well on Steam Deck, but Setting changed needed for controller Well the graphics in Dex looks gorgeous, and are visually enticing. Unfortunately, the gameplay is not, and is hampered by poor level design in the Sewers (which serve as an introduction to the game), poor game design and fight mechanics (press A to punch, repeatedly, with no finesse or strategy), and some serious bugs that should have been fixed in the decade since release. You’ll often come across enemies with weapons (guns, heavy chains). You can pick up their ammo, but not the gun. You CAN pick up the heavy chains, but not equip it. You’ll come across many items (even condoms and porn roms) that don’t appear in your inventory. The genuine tragedy here is that they have the basis for what could have been a really good game. Like a fool I purchased based on screenshots and the video, instead of playing the demo first. It’s $30AUD I’ll never get back as it’s more than 14 days. With some quality of life fixes, and changes in level design (weird empty rooms with no purpose, ladders hidden in shadows that are barely visible unless you turn the brightness to max), it might one day be a good game. But a decade later…. It’s abandonwear. Developer never fixed bugs, or released anything else. You’re going to need to use chatGPT to guide you through it as the level design is so obtuse and counterintuitive. Many game critics savaged it for this - yet many players report a positive score. So your mileage may vary.

O mundo também me surpreendeu bastante.

The Dex has all the things needed to be a great. Voice acting, fighting, story. All surprisingly good. The only reason why I don't recommended is because the key bindings reset when a level loads(retry or continuing) and on a controller the movement stick is very strange. It's very hard to move because it had to be in a specific angle or you'll crouch. Very frustrating cause I REALLY want to keep playing. This is my type of game, but I can't cause key binds keep resetting!

Awesome game. Be careful about combat around staircases and ladders, you might get stuck at an inoppertune time. Also, use your AR everywhere, even when you do not initially notice any device.

Grab it at a discount, if you'd like. Not too terrible but not very competent nowadays. (Dex came out in 2015) • I liked: story, characters, voice acting (actually great for some reason) upgrade systems, """metroidvania"""-esque kinda gameplay aspect of it. There is a tendency in the side missions to favor selfish choices when you are given the chance, and I think it fits what the world-building is trying to do. • I hated: the combat, the weapons, the long dialogue expositions, janky physics, cheese-able gameplay. The latter is its biggest flaw. There is a point of the game where, with enough upgrades, you can cheat the gameplay and AR paralyze your enemies to combo them with your puny four punch combo. Over and over. Then the next guy. It feels like this was the intended gameplay but it sucks so I'm not sure. It's just easier. Even then I still was getting into it until the very end. What a very anti-climatic ending to all the hype the story had built. It just ends abruptly and gives you a powerpoint cutscene, then rolls credits. Up until that point I was gonna give a positive review but wow I felt like the game just wet-farted on my face at the end.

🎮 DEX 🏢 Developer: Dreadlocks Ltd. 📦 Publisher: Dreadlocks Ltd., Techland, WhisperGames ⏱️ Playtime: 4.9 hours 💻 Platform: PC / Steam ⭐ Verdict: 👍 RECOMMENDED ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ A 2D cyberpunk RPG that relies more on freedom and world-building than on making every individual system perfectly polished. 🧠 Cyberpunk With Its Own Identity Dex is the kind of game that makes it clear from the start that it isn't trying to compete with AAA productions in terms of technology or scale. Its priorities are different: build a compact, explorable cyberpunk world that combines 2D platforming, RPG progression, real-time combat, dialogue, stealth and hacking. And that combination is exactly why Dex works. It isn't flawless — particularly when it comes to combat — but it has a very clear identity. Dex understands that a good RPG doesn't need hundreds of hours of content. It needs enough reasons to explore, talk to people, experiment and approach situations differently. 🎮 GAMEPLAY The biggest strength of Dex is the way it combines genres that don't normally appear together in this particular format. At its core, it's a 2D side-scroller, but it doesn't play like a straightforward action platformer. There is a meaningful RPG layer built around attributes, equipment, abilities and augmentations. That changes how you approach obstacles. You can invest heavily in combat, use firearms, rely on stealth or explore the possibilities provided by hacking. The developer itself presents this flexibility as a central part of the experience, with playstyles ranging from hacker and diplomat to stealth-focused assassin and direct combatant. The melee combat, however, is where the game's age becomes most apparent. It works, but it lacks the precision and depth of a dedicated action game. Some encounters can feel considerably simpler than the RPG systems surrounding them. That doesn't break the game, but it creates an interesting contrast: the world and RPG systems are more sophisticated than the combat itself. And that distinction is important when approaching Dex. 🔓 EXPLORATION, DIALOGUE & FREEDOM This is where Dex really starts to stand out. Harbor Prime isn't merely background scenery. The city acts as a playground for quests, characters, alternate paths and exploration opportunities. The game doesn't constantly push you through a linear corridor. You can talk to people, explore, search for different routes, discover characters and encounter side activities while progressing through the story. Dialogue also matters because character abilities can unlock additional conversation options. That makes Dex feel much more like a traditional RPG than a simple 2D action game. The closest comparison is probably Deus Ex, although on a much smaller scale and through a completely different 2D structure. Not because Dex matches Deus Ex in complexity, but because both games share the idea that how you approach a situation can matter almost as much as how you fight through it. 💻 HACKING — THE MOST DISTINCTIVE SYSTEM Hacking is probably the mechanic that gives Dex the most of its individual identity. When you breach certain systems, the game takes you into Cyberspace, turning hacking into a separate gameplay sequence involving enemies, hazards and objectives. That's a clever approach because hacking isn't simply presented as a menu option followed by a loading bar. There is actual gameplay attached to the process. The downside is that the mechanic can lose some of its impact when repeated too often. The concept is arguably stronger than its execution in every situation. Still, I would rather see a game experiment with hacking as gameplay than reduce it to a completely automated action. 🔁 GAMEPLAY LOOP & REPLAYABILITY The core loop revolves around: explore → meet characters → accept quests → solve situations → develop your character → discover new possibilities. Character progression matters because your build can influence what you are capable of doing. That creates a satisfying RPG feeling: your points aren't simply increasing numbers. They help define what kind of Dex you're building. The replay value isn't necessarily about grinding combat or repeating content. It's more about experimenting with a different build and approaching situations in another way. It's a classic RPG-style approach to replayability rather than an endless-content model. 🎨 GRAPHICS & ART DIRECTION Technically, Dex isn't trying to impress. And that's fine. Its art direction matters much more than raw graphical technology. The hand-drawn 2D presentation, character designs, environments and cyberpunk aesthetic give the game a consistent visual identity. Harbor Prime works particularly well because it embraces the grimy side of cyberpunk, where advanced technology exists alongside worn-down urban environments. It feels closer to classic cyberpunk fiction than to a polished, futuristic city filled with pristine skyscrapers. The art direction also helps the game age gracefully. Dex doesn't need to hide the fact that it's a 2015 release; it simply has enough visual identity to remain recognizable and coherent. 🔊 AUDIO & IMMERSION The audio mainly serves the atmosphere. The game leans into a darker science-fiction tone, combining urban exploration, dialogue, combat and a clearly defined cyberpunk aesthetic. I wouldn't call the audio the main reason to play Dex, but it fulfills its most important role: making Harbor Prime feel like an actual place. The immersion comes primarily from the combination of environment, characters, dialogue and atmosphere rather than from spectacular audio production. 📈 DIFFICULTY & BALANCE Difficulty in Dex isn't purely about reflexes. Character development and resource allocation also influence how you deal with challenges. That's a good fit for an RPG because it allows players to find an approach that suits their playstyle. The limitation is that there is sometimes a gap between the freedom promised by the RPG systems and the refinement of individual mechanics. Combat is the clearest example. Dex works better when approached as an exploration-focused RPG with action elements, rather than an action game that happens to have RPG mechanics. ⚙️ PERFORMANCE & OPTIMIZATION I'm not going to invent FPS numbers or benchmark results that aren't part of my recorded experience. What can be established objectively is that the PC version has extremely modest system requirements by modern standards, which is consistent with its 2D presentation and technology. The technical side therefore feels appropriate for the game's scope. You're not buying Dex for cutting-edge rendering technology, but modern hardware is certainly not what stands between you and the experience. Technical score: 8/10. 🆚 COMPARISONS 🕶️ Deus Ex The obvious comparison. Both games emphasize multiple approaches, character abilities and a cyberpunk setting where the player can think about how to solve a situation rather than simply attack everything in sight. The difference is scale. Deus Ex is considerably deeper and more complex, while Dex translates some of that philosophy into a much more compact 2D RPG structure. 🧬 Shadowrun The comparison works because of the cyberpunk setting and RPG-driven storytelling. However, Dex focuses much more heavily on real-time action, physical exploration and side-scrolling movement. 🗡️ Metroidvania There are also clear similarities in exploration and progression. But Dex goes beyond the traditional Metroidvania formula by combining exploration with RPG systems, dialogue, quests and character development. 💎 WHAT MAKES DEX STAND OUT? 1. Cyberpunk in 2D without feeling like a gimmick The biggest strength of Dex is turning a cyberpunk setting into a functional 2D RPG rather than simply using the aesthetic as decoration. The side-scrolling perspective g
