"You're sunshine even in the rain." ☀︎ .✦ ݁˖ I’ve played Stardew Valley, part of Coral Island, Moonlight Peaks, Sunhaven, etc. and though I still consider them all good games and still pull them up to play once in a while, none of them have really struck the same hype and adoration for me that Stardew Valley evokes in most people. I really wanted to experience that same level of happiness and enjoyment some of my friends do when they talk about their farms in that game. So when I redownloaded Fields of Mistria in its full release (I played part of the early access and then put it down to try everything fresh in 1.0), I didn’t have high hopes and figured that Disney Dreamlight Valley would stay my Designated Cozy Game of choice after a long hard day. I'm very delighted to say I am HOOKED and I’m sad I didn’t play it more when I first got it! This game is so much fun, and so addictive. I finally get the Stardew Valley hype I was missing out on, but for Fields of Mistria instead. Not to say one is better than the other, of course, just that this one suits my personal tastes far more. This game takes mechanics that SDV had and (in my opinion) improves them while also having a fun 90s anime Sailor Moon type of art style to it. The villagers have their own distinct personalities (except sadly Eiland, I mention this later in my review). The mechanics are fun, I’m loving the mysterious vibes of what happened to the town and why. And the reasons your character help out make sense to the storyline, where for some of the other farm game genres it really just feels like your character was slapped awkwardly into a preexisting story. Even though there is some grindiness to the game-- there is in pretty much all farm games, this game doesn't feel exhausting in its requests. I accidentally spent like 8 hours in this game in one day the first day I played it after full release, and I almost never do that. I was so absorbed that I completely forgot pretty much everything else I needed to get done for the day. I’d say that says quite a bit about my enjoyment of the game in and of itself. I know I will spend many more hours in this cozy little farm sim. 💖 The good: ✔ Characters: almost all of them are quite loveable and distinct. ✔ Art style: I am weak for 90s anime artstyles. I used to be obsessed with Sailor Moon when I was a kid, so this really hits a level of nostalgia I wasn't really expecting. ✔ Kind of related to the point above, but I do like the season changes. They're all very pretty. ✔ Game mechanics: usually in farm games there's one aspect of the game I despise. Usually fishing. But I can't find a single mechanic I hate in this game. All of them are fun and I don't dodge any of the mechanics in the game. ✔ If you're one of those gamers that love to pick up and hoard resources, oh boy does this game reward that with the amount of requests that roll in. I would definitely recommend holding on to a bunch of your resources over time and not sell everything. You never know what might be helpful later! ✔ Character’s place in storyline makes sense, and they have to earn their place as much as anyone else. ✔ Wholesome storylines: it's so cool watching everyone in this game grow in various ways. ✔ Luc's bee facts, coolest kid ever. Actually in general I love that you can adopt a gaggle of kids as your siblings, basically. Found family is a great trope, okay? ✔ I love how much Holt and Hemlock talk about how much they love their wives. So many games do the "ol' ball and chain" joke and it's refreshing to see these two absolutely adore and talk up their wives and how much they love them. And also how much they are openly proud of their kids too. This goes with good game/character writing, technically, but I keep mentioning this to my friends as something I love about this game so it gets its own separate point. ✔ And for my friends who know how much I love Kurt from Greedfall, this game also has a muscley bearded handsome man who is inexplicably lonely despite being a genuine sweetheart deserving of hugs. (Hayden). All the more reason for me to love this game! Two things I don't like, and a bug mention: ✘ I really wish they'd done more with Eiland. I love archaeology and history, they're two of my favorite subjects irl but that's genuinely all he's interested in and all he talks about. Buddy, I love to talk about my special interests too but please tell me more about you. ✘ The saplings in the mines that somehow slingshot around walls to hit you from literally across the mines map. Like fine if they fly that far, but their physics of skirting around a wall are kind of absurd. I don't know why I find them as annoying as I do, but them and the screaming bats that can't mind their own business are my archnemeses in this game. ✘ Super minor bug, but when you get the quest for the stone refiner the cutscene repeats twice in a row for some reason. It gave me a chuckle though, so this is only in this section because it technically wasn't supposed to happen. Things I'm neutral about but wanted to mention: ➽ March: I think his character arc is interesting. Personally he's not my type at all, but I do understand where people are coming from with him and my advice is to go through the game and give him a chance. ➽ Hayden is so hard to get hearts with originally, I don't know if it was just me but I really struggled with getting points with him until I got later into the season and finally had access to more things that he was interested in to gift him. It's my fault for being so hung up on dating him, really, but I wanted to attend the first festivals with him. Ah well, it's not bad waiting for them to come up again the following year to attend them then. I'm just impatient, haha. ➽ Similarly, it does make me a little sad that you can't interact with merchants the same way you can with most of the regular townsfolk because you only see them one day a week. I wish they came around a little more often! To be honest it just means it takes longer to get heart points with them and it's not too big of a deal, but I did have to set a bunch of stuff aside for them and remember what it was for which got confusing if you play a lot and the days all start to blur together lol. Wholeheartedly recommend this game for someone looking for a cozy farming game to enjoy and spend time away from real life and any of its problems. This game is easily a 5/5 for me with how much I love it and how much I've been enjoying playing it.

Después de 100 horas, he terminado la historia principal, me he casado, he tenido un hijo y he construido una granja próspera.

Fields of Pleasantville The problem with this game isn't the gameplay, or the graphics, it's the writing and direction. Mistria reminds me of Pleasantville except it doesn't realize it's Pleasantville. Everyone is so happy go lucky all the time that it feels strange. Nobody ever has any problems except they need you to go find stuff and spend money for upgrades. It is unsettling how perfect everything is to the point every interaction feels completely shallow. You can kinda ignore it at first but after a while it just comes off as comically cheesy, trite, half-assed amateur hour children's fairytale slop.

This game has a lot of promise - and it's fun! I'm having fun. If you gel with retro-farming throwbacks like RoP, SV - you'll probably have fun too. It is one of the better farming releases in recent years. So why the negative review? Well. It's 1.0 and this game is just too glaringly unfinished to not put my thoughts somewhere for now. It's a much better decoration life-sim game than turnip grinder and cow tipper frenzy. This is more of a "neutral" review than negative that I'll probably change once the game is updated. I'll preface this by mentioning I dislike early access/update as you go games in the farming genre so I hold no cards. Peeves: - Clunky saving. It's a one-auto save game. Auto each time you sleep. You can save in a diary manually.. yet every time you manually save.. it creates a new entry in the diary.. only accessible from the main menu? For future updates, this will be incredibly irritating. It's annoying to reload. It's annoying to save-scum. Juggling multiple saves? Forget about it. - 4 festivals. 4 festivals is pretty disappointing for release. There's 1 each season. Gameplay is limited to dialogue or collectathons. No fishing frenzy or bean dodging here. One is your average Starry Night cutscene. The other is an animal festival with only two categories (Small Animal/Large Animal). HM: FoMT came out in 2003 for the Gameboy Advance and had 10+. Yes, there's more assets and dialogue nowadays.. but 4 festivals is shocking for 1.0. - The Museum. I do not want to hear about the museum for every conversation piece. The villagers disagree. Yeah. I donated Blue Spotted Worm. It's pretty great. Nope, I do not need the town to remind me about the.. Yellow Swirly Worm? Blue Ringed Worm? I had already forgotten once I donated it to be stored motionless on a table.. forever. The exhibits are no ACNH. - No NPC heart events. That's pretty big and shouldn't be missing from a 1.0 release. - Saturday Market. Now I haven't upgraded the market yet.. I'm only on Y2 Spring. But my god. I do not need the characters to stand around a bazaar every week talking about their roots or if furniture is too heavy to carry or fun to hide in. She makes hot chocolate. It's like the SoS:GB bazaar but with no stall and all the characters just stand around a NPC's shop and talk about goods until 8PM. It's not terrible but I don't need it every week without it being more interactive.. or at least switching some of the Friday night dialogue over. - Some of the heart events and characters.. are a little repetitive. Eiland and Hayden's blow and I love chickens. It's not early Harvest Moon levels of 'You love farming? Me too!' and 'Let's have a rabbit-hole meal together!' but some of the writing has made me yawn at times and can be quite one-dimensional. I felt March's events were a lot better than the rest of the candidates. Please stop Balor doing that pose. He's like a walking thinking emoji. Hmmm.. my past? I will keep alluding to it.. but you'll never know.. - Animals. There isn't freshness. Nor star quality. So it's heart levels and breeding for different colors. Products don't get more expensive with level. I don't really care for turning my cows pink or gold, personally. The interactions and outfits are cute but the animals themselves.. feel hollow. Especially with no tools or detailed animal contests. Livestock isn't pushable and the bell is clunky and irritating as it doesn't always give a visual cue that the animals have returned. Pets should be able to herd animals too but are limited to collecting a small amount of rocks/wood per day instead - no tricks, only hats. - Crops. No crop festival. No star ratings. No freshness. No level. No hybrid. No Gold/Large varieties. Just.. crops.. Use a sprinkler, now you don't even have to look at 'em. Hyeh! - Money. This might just be me but the economy seems a little unusual. A diamond is the same price as a fish and half the price of a watermelon. 5 rubies for a cup of joe... guess I'll be eating rocks for breakfast. *crunch crunch* - Story. Farming Games? Story? Haha.. what's that? Story progression is split into Town Rank and the mines. Your town rank is improved by every-day actions, museum deposits and request board quests. The mines are 100-levels split every twenty levels by a 4-item scavenger Junimo package. The next level opens + repeat until LV100. Improving your town rank allows you to access tedious requests involving collecting rock/wood to repair a bridge to access one foraging spot. There are 10 Town Ranks. I am on the 4th Town Rank and have had around 4-5 required story quests that make me collect 200 Wood/Stone and deposit in a box for a minimal set piece change. - Difficulty (Easy to Hard? Try Sandbox to Easy) This game is ridiculously easy. And you can make it even easier! The mines are only 100 levels that can be cleared before Y1 with ease. Hell, you don't even need to upgrade your weapons. No incremental upgrades here. Sprint through the enemies. Stamina isn't a challenge with 4 free refill spots on the map. Run out of time? You can make the days longer! Disable the bed-time penalty! Auto-feed/water/pet your crops/animals! Friendship is easy to gain due to the vast amount of group-dialogue that I have 4 hearts with everyone by Winter Y1 without gifting a single item. Their names.. haha.. I don't know. Hated/Disliked gifts DO NOT decrease friendship, get ready to see everyone's heart events. If it wasn't for an inane amount of fetch lumber requests + RNG museum artifacts, I'm confident you could 100% this game with ease before Y2. Shops never close. Quests never time-out. It isn't a dealbreaker for me but I don't get any sense of accomplishment with this game, YMMV. Crushes: - Great soundtrack. Much better than a lot of farming games and has yet to get repetitive. - Sprite Art is nice & varied. I really like the character portraits. - The seasonal clothing from HMDS has finally returned to the genre! Hooray! - The characters and town are charming & loveable - Good price - There's a lot of dialogue and I appreciate it. Not as much as Rune Factory 4 but a great deal more than Story of Seasons. - Henrietta - Great amount of customization and every haircut you could possibly desire. - Balanced dialogue unlocks - One of the better examples of mining in the genre - Good starting crop + cooking variety. - Atmospheric seasons and weather. A good escape, but a mediocre farming experience. The parallels with Stardew Valley are unavoidable and easy. They're very similar games. Pixel farming simulators with a similar art-style and gameplay loop. "If you had to choose.." I'll save for the final-release and update, but at present it isn't really a question if you're looking to choose between the two to buy. If you've played/finished Stardew Valley and want more of it without delving more indie or into the SOS/HM franchises.. farming crazy.. want to stream cow breeding and decorating a farm for 40h.. a new cozy game to unwind to.. you'll have fun. Otherwise, I'd recommend to more hesitant buyers and fence-sitters to wait and see for future updates.
