Wow, another love-to-hate-to-love game. The game is good, definitely outstanding in the time, and his competitors from that era. Preatty decent campaign story; it will keep you engaged till the end, as it will slowly progress you till the last latest mission. This edition has an economic campaign (5 missions; they do not relate to each other but they are engaging). Looks decent (not quite a good thing, as this was an improved version of the original; I think they only added extra missions and higher resolution, other than that not seeing much difference, and there was a lot to improve). Really impressed by the amount of detail it have and different mechanics (fire pit, oil fire creating dithes, traps, dead cows as ammunition, fine detail destruction, timeSpeed, etc), but not all well implemented. It has plenty of ways to play: campaign missions, siege (you invade a castle), invasion (defending), skirmish, random scenarios, and maps. -Not bad but the enemy AI sometimes can be random, which is ok but still make me almost rage, in some occasions. example- In one mission the enemy will do the same pathing for 3 attacks in a row soo, you dont have much time to defend everything soo you reforce in this path, TA DA, the last attack it goes through the less reinforced area, gets screwed bad, need to start over as you dont have nor time or resources to defend the other way. -The enemy structure feels cheated but is something you get use to. example—you dont know what is going to throw, 3 normal attacks, but magic trick last attack with siege weapons. start over. -The troops feel not balanced as they are presented in the game, like those 4 knights the first ime they appear that will wipe out the entire castle, still you get used to this. The BAD: - In my case this run like bad, a lot of miss clicks (the game not registering them), weird stutters, and this one was the nail for me as this stuttering didn't stop when closing the game; it made me switch to the Definitive Edition, where I started all over again. - The army is buggy; it requires a lot of babysitting, if you move a group, they spread like crazy, is like they want to trigger all traps in the map. they love standing still (example—if you send a group to attack another inside the castle, they will click only the selected soldier, them they will stand there like heroes taking all the arrows like nothing is happening while the rest of the enemies are standing right next to them; this is extremely annoying). - Pathfinding is weird; sometimes they will do the longest path for no reason. - Like i said they didn't improve anything for the HD version; there is a lot of pixelating in here. - Controls are still outdated. -The trebuchet cannot be moved, and you dont know if it is in range to attack, soo it becomes a guessing game, Get too close, and the bowman will kill you before building it, to far loss time and money (some missions are money limited). - All of this is the same in the Defenitive edition, except the graphics they change a little bit (no more pixelated), and the controls are better, and it runs fine. If you can go for the definitive edition instead.

Hint: the franchise is now putting out Stronghold 4. The did quite well! Its fun to come back to the classic at times. Id say more but Im sure there are 1,000s of reviews and youtubes that go into more depth.

The best game I've ever played. I recommend. If you have finished the game but would like to play more, I recommend downloading Stronghold Crusader and installing the Unofficial Crusader Pack and installing the Europe package for it

its every bit as fun as i remember as a kid. i used to watch my dad play it and i can tell what he liked about it. it challenges me in a way thats so hard to find in modern games.

Seems like a good game, but I couldn't get warm with it. The controls are not very good, the graphics are worse and the gameplay is often waiting around for long stretches of time. The building part of the game isn't logical either (you can't build certain buildings on their own, you have to build them adjacent to others of its kind). Actually the building part of this game annoyed me the most and normaly I love builder games.

хуесосы ♥♥♥♥♥♥ официальных серверов нет так что пришлось ебаться с подключением через радмин и подобные сторонние программы в итоге ♥♥♥♥♥ не получилось и я зря вьебал 2 часа своей жизни

Честно скажу, пусть мне и больше нравятся шутеры, но воспитывали меня именно стратегии. Моими самыми первыми играми в моей жизни вообще были такие, как Star Wars: Empire At War и данный шедевр: Stronghold 1. Данная игра меня просто поражала, да и сейчас поражает тем, что её комьюнити ещё живёт. Невероятно новый геймплей, который совмещал в себе реализм и веселье, невероятно уникален и будет для меня эталоном всегда. Жаль, что меня понесло к серии халфы... но всё-же первый Stronghold в моём сердечке. А Crusader даже пробовать не буду: там ребята больше ушли в бои и прокачали до максимума то, что итак играло в оригинале замечательно.
