Solid expansion to Half Life 1 that takes place during the same events just from a different perspective with its own sequence of unique events. Has a great arsenal of late game weapons as well tho that starting pistol is so bad until the more mid sized enemies show up.

Как по мне дополнение на голову выше не менее прекрасного оригинала, но тут больше проработки , постановки, механик, врагов и оружия. Играется бодрее оригинала. Механика с барнаклом понравилась.

Opposing Force is my favorite Half-Life expansion. I actually like it even more than the original game. It is one of those games I never get tired of playing over and over again. Being able to see the events of a game universe from the perspective of the enemy and understand their motivations is one of the reasons I love this game. Playing as a HECU soldier sent to cover up the events at Black Mesa is truly a completely different experience. The training section at the beginning also does a good job of making us feel like a soldier. Here, we learn how to use Night Vision and how to climb and swing from ropes to jump across gaps. The sections where we fight alongside HECU soldiers are really fun. Fighting alongside the soldiers we constantly saw as enemies in Half-Life is a lot of fun this time. Even though the AI sometimes acts stupid. In the “We Are Not Alone” chapter, we see Gordon Freeman passing through the teleport. Seeing this scene from Shephard's perspective this time is a really nice detail. When we go to Xen through the same teleport, we see Gordon there, and after falling down, we return to the previous save because of the paradox that occurs. The fact that this detail was actually thought out is really nice. One of my favorite aspects of the game is the new weapons and enemies. The addition of Race X adds some nice variety to the game. The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and M-40A1 Sniper Rifle are my favorite weapons. I especially love the feeling of power the M249 gives during firefights, and shooting enemies from long range with the M-40A1 is really enjoyable. The Displacer Cannon, one of the new weapons, is also different and cool thanks to its right-click ability. I compare it to the BFG9000 from DOOM. Being able to teleport enemies and, in some situations, send ourselves to a different location is a really nice idea. You need to use its ammunition carefully, but it is very satisfying when used at the right moment. The only downside is that the game is short. I wish Race X had been explored a little more and that we had gotten a few more new chapters. It also disappoints me that Race X has never been mentioned in any other Half-Life game. Other than that, Opposing Force adds some great things to Half-Life despite being released one year after it, and it is an expansion worth playing on its own. It has been 26 years since the game was released, but we still have no idea what happened to Corporal Adrian Shephard or Race X. I hope that if Half-Life 3 ever comes out, we get to see something related to them. Surely Valve wouldn't just leave Shephard forgotten somewhere in the interdimensional void. Even a small reference to the story of Opposing Force after 26 years would make me very happy. Despite all these years, it is still one of those games I keep coming back to.

It's a lot of fun seeing some of the scrapped enemies and design ideas from Half-Life 1 in HL: Opposing Force, lots of twists on the puzzles, guns, movement and mechanics from the first game. Perhaps it's nostalgia talking, but I think the HL1 expansions still hold up, still compare well to other shooters. Don't forget to turn off auto-aim, and save-often. 7.5/10

More classic Half-Life action. In my opinion this game is as good as Half-Life. Has an even more varied selection of weapons compared to Half-Life which is saying something. Must-play for anyone who considers themselves a fan of Half-Life.
