"When love dies, all that remains are the facts." Paradise Killer is an adventure game developed by Kaizen Game Works, published by Fellow Traveller. Story Paradise Killer is set in a pocket universe where group of immortal alien beings called the Syndicate attempts to reawaken ancient gods. For this goal they create Paradise Islands, where together with kidnapped humans from Earth living as citizens they experiment to achieve their goal. When island fails, humans are slaughtered and their souls are used to build new iternation, starting cycle anew. Game takes place on Paradise Island 24 where on the night of regular sacrifice, entire Syndicate Council is found dead, putting transfer to Island 25 on hold. You play as Lady Love Dies, Syndicate detective who has been in exile for 3 million days, now returning by permission to uncover the grand mystery behind a murder. Gameplay Open world with crime(s) to solve! As you can guess gameplay loop is set on discovering who is a titular paradise killer by exploring the island, finding evidence and clues to ultimately use them against suspects in final trial all played from first person perspective. After you drop out of the comfy jail high in the sky, you are free to roam Island 24. Exploration is name of the game as Lady Love Dies wastes no time to search every nook and cranny. Check out murder scenes, secret rooms, various landscapes or public places for anything that can lead you closer to truth. Interact often with Syndicate members in the area who will try to shift the blame, hide the facts or lead you astray, but with collected items you just may earn information you seek, building up to grand conviction of their innocence...or not. Outside of slowly piecing up the scheme surrounding the murder on top of other cases that pop up you can find additional side quests, conversations with friendly demon or various collectibles such as bottles of whisky and music tracks; some high on the rooftops, others deep underground. Prepare to jump, run or crouch, with occasional puzzle thrown into the mix. Every good investigator needs a partner. Cosmos Starlight is a handheld device which will aid you in cracking puzzles, sorting all the data you collected and keeping track of everything taking place on the island. To swiftly naviagate the area you can unlock fast travel points by using local currency- blood crystals! These may also aquire you a tasty beverage, skins for your starlight, or even upgrades to make exploration easier! Playtime, replayability It took me 10 hours to clear out entire island. Playtime is very flexible as you can beat game under 10 minutes or take a couple of hours, mostly depending on your desire to investigate and explore. This freedom gives a solid reasoning for second playthrough or at very least, return to original playthrough and squeeze of extra playtime out of it to find everything and make other choices. Impressions When I started the game I didn't knew what to expect from rather bizzare premise but now I can say with full confidence: Paradise Killer delivers on every front. It hooks from the start with strange setting and strong opening to further let you enjoy the game on your own terms thanks to given freedom of exploration with open-ended nature of investigations. You cannot lose even if you won't perform a single move outside of prologue, providing a very unique aspect of something that is (supposed to be) a detective game afterall. While investigating is vital to learn and allow to convict better in final trial, additionally they lead to deeper understanding of gathered information by a player about events of Island 24 and entire crazy lore surrounding Syndicate, ancient gods and demons. Thanks to various cast of characters scattered on the island, you will feel boredom, laughter, layers of unravelled mystery and that surprising touch of philosophical depth coming from human emotions expressed in demonic manner- all wrapped in one decent looking package! Along your journey you will be accompanied by fantastic citypop inspired soundtrack and entire island with various collectibles, side quests and just fun exploration makes those few hours you will spend on a game very enjoyable. It just may be one of the most unique detective games I had a pleasure to play considering you are not actually required to do any detective work, balancing that thin line between investigation and adventure. Great worldbuilding, fantastic characters, freedom of approach, dive into various topics, sweet soundtrack, this game truly has a feel of paradise mystery on otherwordly place that like a good vacation, doesn't require you to lift a finger if you don't fancy. Just ignore sacrifical temples and all the immortals that make you their cattle. A delight to play, I can safely recommend it! Final words and conclusion You can purchase artwork and soundtracks to further support developers! Paradise Killer is definitely not murdering quality of the game. Excellent, unique open-ended detective treat that I recommend highly! Feel free to check out my curator page for more reviews!

Paradise Killer is completely different from other games in its genre. It's essentially a visual novel detective game, but it also offers a 3D open world. The exploration feels engaging, addictive, and rewarding. I started searching for clues the moment I set foot on the island. However, the suspects just pulling a "nah, prove it in court" after you've basically exposed their lies felt like lazy writing to me. We could've had more meaningful interactions. I'm also not sure why, but the endgame didn't hit right. I collected every bit of information, but it just came down to pressing buttons. I expected the game to actually test my overall knowledge about the whole thing. For a game like this, the character movement has to feel smooth. Unfortunately in Paradise Killer, it is very basic. I felt like I was moving a floating camera instead of a character when I was in the open world. It didn't stop me from playing, but some people might not want to continue because of that. I enjoyed the open world, but the side quests felt lacking. There were only a few, and none of them were particularly good. I wish they had connected the relics we collected from the ground with the side quests. Still, the game is fun and I had a great time with it, so I recommend it. I still want to get back to it even after achieving 100%.

I can't believe this game flew under my radar for six years! What Paradise Killer is turns out to be a masterful amamlgam of walking simulator, colectathon, visual novel and mystery game with a vaporware paint job. You get to Paradise 24, told to look into a supposed locked door mystery where the alledged guily party is one of the most convenient suspect, and after a short briefing, you're left to explore every nook and cranny of an island just big enough to sprinkle collectibles all over the place, including clues for you to find, but small enough to never get too tedious to explore on foot. Moreover you have foot baths that unlock skills like double jump to make traversal better, and using blood vial (the most common item to collect) on a phone, you can unlock and use fast travel if the distance is really too far for you or you want to go somewhere specific quickly. After you think you're done gathering clues and exploring, you get to the trial section where you need to consider all the evidence you gathered and witness testimonies and decide on who is the most likely culprit for each case. If you gathered enough evidence and used it well enough, Judge will condemn the person you accuse. It's definitely not as obvious as it sounds, as most characters have skeletons in their closet. There is platforming in this game, obviously, but let me be upfront: NO FALL DAMAGE. You can fall in areas where you "die", but it will immediately respawn you to the closest phone. Missing a jump and falling down sucks, but there's no real consequences. Speaking about the phones, they act both as fast travel stations and save points. The game is upfront about having no autosave, but rest assured, these phones are sprinkled all over the island at the most helpful points. It's really an experience you owe to yourself, the surreal landscape painted by the game's visual and audio will plunge you into the retrofuturistic world of Paradise Killer and if you're like me, you'll have a hard time shutting the game down to do anything else. I really can't believe this game isn't more popular than it is!

I was pretty disappointed by this game. I think the premise is interesting, but the actual storytelling is lacking. * The main playtime of the game is spent walking around the 3D space and picking up evidence without interacting with the characters. * Evidence you collect is neatly sorted into lists by character and case, so by the end it is extremely clear who is guilty. You don't actually do much deduction. * The characters in this game interact very little, pretty much the only interactions are the main character talking to everyone individually (even during the trial). * The trial is mostly the main character repeating the evidence list in dialogue format, without any added insight/emotion. The player has very few actual decisions during the trial. Overall I wouldn't recommend this game. If you're expecting an investigation game like Danganronpa or Ace Attorney, you'll probably be disappointed.

This is the second time i've completed the 100% and overall 2nd playthrough and I still overall very much love this game. Maybe in some areas it's a bit heavy handed with the investigation and collection aspects but it is without a doubt very self-aware of it's subject matter and i appreciate that as no matter what happens the Elite still rule the working class in this universe and all you can do is minimize that harm if at all possible. At least I can make Lady love Crimson in the end.

Top tier, unique detective/exploration game set in a dystopian hellhole under a shiny vaporwape veneer and in which everyone has something to hide. Strong recommendation for fans of detective or narrative games. As a bonus, runs perfectly on the Steam Deck.

Why play Paradise Killer? • It is an interesting and intertwined detective story set on a weird island. • You will search for evidence and talk to people to uncover the truth. What else is good? • The music is chill and cool. • The ending of the story depends only on how much time you spend finding clues and how much you talk to people. • The game has interesting character designs. • The game gives you a few traversal mechanics that make constant running less painful. • Ray tracing makes the visuals more bearable. What is bad: • Almost all voice lines are silent. • The only “gameplay” is finding clues. There are no real interrogations or any stakes on the line. • A lot of meaningless collectibles. • Paid teleportation is ridiculous. The story is awesome, but it should have been a movie or some TV series, not a game at all. Buy this “game” only at a discount.
