It is often the case that media that gets labeled "the best" fails to live up to that designation. It's hard to approach a work that is supposedly "the best" without a degree of skepticism. "Citizen Kane is the best movie ever? All right, prove it, bub." -- that sort of thing. With video games, I've found this phenomenon ever more pronounced. Only oldheads with nostalgia goggles on would think that a creaky old game is better than the shiny and new game. The best rpg is the newest critically acclaimed one. Sometimes though, the oldheads have it right. Baldur's Gate II is the best game BioWare has ever made.

It's fun. It's very nostalgic too. I use to play this game for days when I was off work back in the late 90's early 00's So many things to do and if you figure it out there's a break that's not really a break in the game where you can get infinite gold with a high enough pick pocket! :D Shhhh, don't tell! AND, for Steam to get this much of a review from me, because I'm usually lazy, I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME! BG3 isn't bad either, but it's new to me.

⊰═🕀═⊱≼Gather your party and go for the eyes≽⊰═🕀═⊱ While playing, you already feel as though you’re part of a legendary story… A sense of nostalgia arises right in the midst of the game itself, even if you’re playing it for the first time … There’s no doubt that this is one of the greatest CRPGs ever made... Perhaps even the best to this day ... At the very least, that wouldn’t be an exaggeration ... So what exactly is so brilliant and fascinating about it ? 🜂 Positive 🜄 ☉ The story … The bets are much higher here … Whilst the first part dealt with political intrigue, the seizure of power and more grounded fantasy, here what is at stake is divinity and the power to influence the fate of the entire world, at the very least … ☉ The characters are much better developed than in the first game, with plenty of dialogue and interesting interactions … There are more serious themes and deeper drama … ☉ A living fable … The locations really caught my attention, as it all begins just like an Arabian fairy tale, like in *One Thousand and One Nights*… But then there are the vampires, then the underwater kingdom … I especially remember the realm of the dark elves … There, you really do feel threatened from all sides, and, to be honest, it’s a rather dreadful place that you just want to get out of as quickly as possible ... ☉ Irenicus is a far better antagonist than Sarevok … I don’t know why, but he inspires genuine loathing … Yet he doesn’t toy with the protagonist, as other villains often do … You really get the sense that he harbours no sentiment towards you … To him, you’re merely a tool for achieving goals that are, at first, completely unclear ... ☉ The music, the voices, the sound effects – it’s all like a movie come to life ... And I find it hard to say why I have these impressions ... ☉ The outcome is exactly as it should be ... But the final choice is yours... 🜁 Negative 🜃 ☽ It’s not a particularly interesting levelling system, which often consists of nothing more than mechanically boosting stats… I’d like a bit more variety, but as it is, you have to wait until level 20… ☽ The stories of certain characters ... I didn’t really like the way Edwin’s story unfolded … It feels as though this character deserved better, and you get the impression that the writers hadn’t quite decided for themselves whether to make him a comic hero or one of the most powerful sorcerers … As far as I’m concerned, the two aspects conflict with each other somewhat … The plot in the expansion is also quite good, but the antagonist, to be honest, didn’t make much of an impression, except disgust … ⊰💧⊱═𒍟═⊰🩸⊱ 12/12 ⊰🩸⊱═𒍟═⊰💧⊱ ☔Dr_Andrain ☔

Sure the game is over twenty years old, but it still holds up as one of the most fun and creative CRPG's of the last 30 years.....and one of the best video game sequals. Given you can usually pick this game up for less than $40, I can highly recommend it.....though I say do yourself a favour and play BG1 first.

Still one of the best RPGs of all time, at least as far as western ones go. I've recently discovered that something called EET exists. With a bit of modding, you can play BG1, BG1.5, BG2, Icewind Dale 1, Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinter NIghts as one huge single campaign, all in a BG2 engine. Being an old game however, this game is brutal, trying to keep your party's mage alive is a nightmare, and while this game has online multiplayer/co-op, the engine is terrible for it, unless you are willing to constantly get your game paused by the other player, and unpaused when you are still making decisions.

One of the greatest video games ever and still the best CRPG ever made. I've spent countless hours playing it and NWN1 over the years. Slap SCS on this bad boy and you are in the money.

명불허전. 과거의 명성이 어찌 만들어졌는지 느낄 수 있는 게임이었습니다. 다만 결국 과거작은 과거작이라는 한계도 명백하게 느꼈습니다. 내 다른건 다 참고 플레이 할 수 있는데 이동 인공지능 시발 이건 개노답입니다 아 진짜 쓰다보니까 또 화딱지나네 차라리 스타 용기병이 더 길 잘 찾겠다 시불놈들아 왜 아무것도 없는 맨땅에서 니들끼리 서로 길 길 거리면서 비비고 자빠져 있냐고 또한 전투가 너무 피곤한감이 없잖아 있어요 적들의 CC기가 정말 강력해서 매 전투마다 그에 대한 대응을 해야하는데 초중반엔 중요한 큰 전투 정도만 대응하고 전투 들어가면 되지만 후반에 돌입하면 매 전투마다 대응을 해놓지 않음 게임이 터지기 때문에 템포도 느려지고 굉장히 피곤하네요 하지만 이러니 저러니 해도 깊이있는 스토리와 게임성은 확실히 느낄 수 있었습니다.
