Amazing artwork, great atmosphere and soundtrack. Movement is a bit janky. Combat is fine. Boss mechanics are good but not great. Overall, one of the better metroidvanias out there. But there is a major issue: the game doesn't respect your time. Almost all metroidvanias have multiple endings and reward exploration with additional lore, bosses and areas. Blasphemous has multiple endings as well, and a good chunk of side content that needs to be completed to achieve the "true" ending. This is not just achievement hunting. With metroidvanias, going for the true ending lets you explore and experience the game to its fullest and can be really rewarding. To get the true ending, you are expected to do things in a specific order and if you don't, you get locked out of certain content. There are no real pointers about the expected order of events and it's almost impossible to get it right on your first playthrough without a guide. There are also other "time sensitive" quests that lock you out if you don't finish them before killing certain bosses. *** THIS IS ALL PERFECTLY FINE *** The problem is, if you don't do everything in the expected order, you end up with a bunch of non-functioning late game items and NPCs. Since the game doesn't tell you anything about getting locked out of these questlines, you end up backtracking through the map again and again, thinking you must've missed something, only to finally give up, check online and find out that you've been wasting your time. Everything in the game indicates that there is more to do. You still have quest items, NPC dialogues indicate there are unfinished quests, but unbeknownst to you, you are completely locked out. It would've been fine if the items were somehow taken away from you once you messed up the order, the optional boss encounters were walled of or at least the NPCs hinted that their quests could no longer be completed. But since none of this happens, you end up losing hours looking for solutions that are not there. There are also certain items that were added with the DLCs which can't be collected on your first playthrough even though they have placeholders in your inventory. There is also a DLC area that can't be accessed. This once again leads to searching the map for things that are not there. As a final quibble, some secrets are almost impossible to find through deduction alone. You either need to get lucky, hit every wall on sight or check online. But this is a general problem with most metroidvanias. In the end, this game seems to be designed for multiple playthroughs. That's fine, but there should have been ingame indicators about this design choice for players who are trying to avoid online spoilers.

Easy platforming that rarely catches you out (besides that one optional challenge, ♥♥♥♥ you Miriam). Easy bosses and stages compared to most souls-likes. The two together along with the story and setting create such a unique masterpiece. No BoC equivalent in this game, peak bosses only. Cistern is the closest you get to Blighttown and it's not bad at all. THE PENITENT ONE IS THE HARDEST PROTAGONIST OAT! Buy this game.

其实本身呢这个游戏各方面机制是不错的，2D魂很新颖，动作也不错。但是我不得不旗帜鲜明地反对一切蓄意浪费玩家生命（时间）的行为和设计。 这是一个只有生活特别幸福完全没什么苦难，时间也很充裕，恰如一个7，8岁小学生，或者15，16岁初中生放学回家也没有什么作业，没有升学压力，家庭幸福美满，没有太急切必须完成的事，一切才刚刚开始。又或者你事业步入正轨，一人的薪水可以养全家，每天4点下班回家，一周休3天，那么如果你有兴趣的话，是适合玩一下这个游戏体验一下你从未体验过的人生的另一面的。我估计好评大约是来自于这类人的。 但如果不然，你接下来大部分的游戏时间大概率会浪费在重复地返复跑图上。 其实难度怎么的不是问题，但存档点太远太少就是问题。这是个2D横版游戏，跳跃陷阱频度相当于3D魂至少半张大地图吧，它可以2张，3张都没有存档点。而且有怪专门anti跑酷的，全屏追杀，组合怪黏在攀爬点上不打掉不能跳，每死一次都会刷新。总之这些意义不大，明显是蓄意拖时间。
