I've been playing the new DLC for over a month now, so I'd share my thoughts. First, the map and story: the new storyline further expands the game's lore and worldbuilding, and the new Asterkarn mountain areas look beautiful. The visual quality has clearly improved (the original game honestly looks pretty underwhelming in comparison). There are still some issues, though, such as the first few areas having too few quests and monsters, with quest NPCs scattered around in the wilderness and so on. Overall, however, it's still pretty good. Then there's the Ascendant Mode: 1. Balance: The balance of Ascendant mode is, to put it bluntly, absolutely terrible (to the point where even Normal difficulty can be quite hard now). Monster HP has been massively inflated—pretty much every boss is now a giant punching bag with tens of millions of HP! The damage output is also insane, and Sunder is everywhere. Take two more hits by accident and you're dead. The new Nemesis bosses, Lord Raddoth and Vinn the Giant, deserve a special mention here. How is it reasonable that simply stopping for a moment means you die immediately? How are ranged and channeling/caster builds supposed to play like this?! And ever since the Dodge mechanic was introduced, bosses that you could previously just stand and fight against can now barely be face-tanked at all. It feels like the developers have shifted heavily toward an action-game style similar to PoE2, but that's not what this game was originally about! Grim Dawn should be a slower-paced, relaxing ARPG that shines through its huge variety of builds—not a Soulslike! If I wanted that kind of challenge, why wouldn't I just play another game?! 2. Ascendant affixes: The drop rate of the materials used to add Ascendant affixes to gears is way too low. It's common to finish a run with fewer than 10 Soul Echoes, while Ascending a single piece of gear generally requires 3–5 Soul Fragments (24–40 Soul Echoes). On top of that, the affix itself is random, so if you're trying to reroll the right skill bonus, you have to spend even more materials. Repeating this kind of grinds over and over isn't fun and definitely a chore. 3. Ascendant Altars: The materials you put into the altar, as well as the bonuses it provides, only last for a single game session. Everything is reset when you start the next game. This means you have to play for a long time and kill lots of monsters in a single run for it to be worthwhile, making the old method of repeatedly farming the same boss for MI impractical. As for the rest, these are just my personal opinions: Playing Hardcore right now is basically asking for trouble, so I don't think I'll bother going for all the achievements for the time being. The devs also have some responsibility here. They can't just keep listening to a small group of top players on the forums, can they? Whenever a build becomes strong, it gets nerfed over and over again in successive patches. This is a single-player game, after all—everyone should be able to play whatever they want, shouldn't they? Another thing worth mentioning is that the new DLC doesn't add any new constellations, which has never happened before. I figured that with the story being expanded, we'd get at least a few new constellations or something (like Beronath). But nope, nothing. That's pretty disappointing. There's also the poor optimization. Frame drops happen all over the place, especially when opening a chest and having Chthonian enemies spawn—you can get a full 1–2 seconds of freezing. Overall, the new DLC is good in terms of quality, but the difficulty changes are far too aggressive and have disrupted the game's previous pacing and overall feel. Let's see how the devs adjust things going forward.

Decent, but wait for it to be complete (no rogue dungeon yet) or get it on discount. Also, by that time, hopefully they will be done with netfing (aka balance) patches, so you can play without your build getting messed up by patches. The base game and the other expansions are really good.

Grim Dawn - Fangs of Asterkarn is the most fun I've had playing GD since Ashes of Malmouth (and I liked Forgotten Gods.) I am still determining whether this or AoM is my favorite DLC, but I think with a few more balance + additional content patches, FoA may actually take the win for me, and that says a lot because I was in love with Ashes of Malmouth. A level of difficulty has been returned to the game that is most welcomed, but the people moaning about it with negative reviews are frankly players who refuse to learn what makes a cohesive build. I have beaten this game with both strong and mediocre builds, it's really not tough. Frankly, most of the game can be handled with one hand. Now end game characters do have access to a variety of challenges where even finished builds can be threatened. If you have even the slightest bit of willpower when it comes to being challenged by a game, I promise you, the complaints about difficulty were already overblown, but the balance updates since have addressed them too. I also love the altar mechanic lets you choose how much more difficult you want the end-game to be! The music is incredible. Sometimes I just find myself standing at a scenic vista in the new mountain zones, taking it all in. The new boss fights are a cut above all the bosses from previous DLC's. They have more complexity and mechanics, but are entirely fair. If Dark Souls is 8/10 difficult, then Grim Dawn - FOA is closer to 4 or 5. The new loot is awesome, and has some of my favorite looking in-game art yet. Same for the new enemy designs. The berserker class is about to be much more balanced in the upcoming 1.3.1 patch, and with it most of the outliers in terms of both player and enemy balance have been addressed. Unfair one-shots are gone. There are tons of new secrets to find, and some of them are pretty complex. Crate Entertainment has always gone the extra mile to make some ridiculously awesome and involved secrets in-game that only dedicated explorers will figure out and find. Please be aware, the game is currently being review bombed by a certain community who is overreacting to having clearly OP and bugged player-side stuff fixed/addressed. A healthy balance for this game is good, it ensure each class has its appeal in both leveling and the end game. I have played every ARPG known to man, there is no other game that will respect your time and intelligence as a player as much as Grim Dawn does. I've put in over 10k hours (Steam doesn't track offline hours) Just buy it. I've enabled comments, so feel free to ask me anything.

само длс стоящее. отрицательный отзыв только за оптимизацию. 47 фпс на rtx 5070 в игре десятилетней давности. как это вообще возможно? есть ощущение, что просадки фпс появились и на локациях остальной игры, не только на локациях длс.

This DLC has 3 main parts: 1) New act with it's locations, story, quests, factions etc. 2) New mastery in Berserker 3) Endgame mechanics in ascended affixes, affix rerolls and ascendant difficulty. To me, the new act is fine. New mastery is somewhat busted OP at the moment. I believe there will be nerfs (there should be, it's too strong) and some people will cry about it. But well. Yet it's more builds, more cool mechanics and interactions. To me personally, the most juice in this DLC is in the endgame. Ascendant difficulty is a godsend. Finally the entire map is an endgame. Nemesis bosses aren't limited to one per session. The Dread is cool. And all those drop juice sweety materials needed for ascending gear. Also, due to affix rerolling double (tripple) rares are realistically achievable. Got roll you perfect MI. The game got much better in the endgame for me with DLC.

FoA showcases the superpower of the Crate team, which is doggedly persistent iteration. They've pushed the elderly Titan Quest engine to embody something beyond recognition, in a positive sense. This opens up a chimeric new space in ARPGs chock-full of the best bad poetry. It's bizarre, frantic, and so, so loveable. Grim Dawn is now a sprawling concatenation of 24 factions and 45 classes, with item tooltips that take up a quarter of the screen, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
