for the record i mostly played this on ea games (rip origin) so i have way more hours in this than shown if you play a lot of games, its hard to really miss mass effect from the list. as a whole the series is both famous and infamous, but id say the original is known for more good than bad. its a good game, and by far has the greatest worldbuilding in the series, in my opinion, and also takes the most advantage of being an exploration into sci-fi as a genre. it also had one of the biggest outrages over a bisexual character, that being liara, from its era. thats probably the area where id say the game is most brave though haha - as a whole the game isnt necessarily anything too new to the genre, especially given the sheer amount of contemporary sci-fi games that you will likely have seen or played by this point. that being said, mass effect absolutely had one of the biggest impacts on the genre in gaming and genuinely deserves the praise; the story is enjoyable and doesnt feel too contrived, the characters all have their own niches to fulfill and are genuinely more complex than you might expect at first, and the romances (while much more so in the succeeding entries) arent as immature as youll find in other games containing this sort of "romancing" system. given this, i do think its important to mention the clear immaturity the game shows that improves in certain ways across the series. the characters are fairly developed given their era, but certainly not all of them. who the hell cares about kaiden man. is that even his name? i dont really care. hes painfully boring and--if you play with a female shepherd--awful to talk to if you do not plan on romancing the guy. even then, he doesnt get any more interesting. and ashley is fairly annoying, but it is for a reason. i mention them because you do have to interact with these characters quite a bit, and are one of the most important human characters in the game. the side characters are very interesting, along with the main cast, though. in addition, the choice system isnt as fantastic as a lot of people seem to claim. i feel like people truly aggrandise how much gaming has progressed since the 2000s. of course the extent of what can be done has improved, but i feel like its often forgotten just how much people made do with what they had. with that said, the choice system, acknowledging this, is not that great. its impressively simplistic and dumbs down most moral choices to "good" (paragon) and "bad" (renegade.) this continues throughout the series, though i believe the choices become more interesting over time. its enjoyable to play, but if youre a hardcore roleplayer that enjoys having a complicated main character then this isnt the most impressive thing out there. i can respect the iconicity of it though, and its still very enjoyable. even though i criticise the choices in of themselves, the characters which influence and are influenced by them are actually pretty good in my opinion. id argue that mass effect, in at least some senses, did revolutionise this intertwinement of choice based story progression alongside the shooter aspects, which were more at home in games that didnt contain that sort of thing. this is more of a side note, and its pretty well joked about, but i find the facial expression system they used to be particularly impressive, honestly. its not really relevant but you should look it up if you dont know and are interested. the way the dialogue is laid out and the pacing, camera angles, and extensive voice acting, are so characteristic of the series and so beloved & iconic that i genuinely believe you are missing out by having not played the games. i think that goes for everything in mass effect though. its just such an integral part of the culture of video games that i think its a worthwhile experience. the first game is the most different to the other two, which accustom much more aggressively to the game industry standards at the time. the first mass effect takes more precedent in its worldbuilding than the story (though the story isnt awful either) and is much more traditional in the sci-fi aspects of that worldbuilding. id argue it definitely rivals star trek or star wars. the gameplay is also much less developed (which is to be expected), and quite frankly just less enjoyable for me. this doesnt make it bad though. it isnt very complicated and still pretty fun, but doesnt really spring to mind when i think of fun third person shooters. i appreciate the use of the squad members a lot, but it isnt really necessitated in the easier modes. overall i believe this game is clunky in some aspects, and wildly impressive in others, but overall worth it. its an enjoyable game if you arent opposed to sci-fi and weird voice acting. also garrus and wrex are my favourite squad members in any of the games, and they get introduced here so automatic buy. i criticise it, but mostly out of love

Ну вот в 2к26 решил все таки понять почему западные фаны биоваров так боготворят именно масс эффект а не драганугу. В итоге понял , эта игра словно стар трек со своим мега кайфовым и интересным сеттингом. Главный герой ну чисто капитан Кирк в его лучшие годы , а сюжет и выборы что поистине решают и заставляют трепетать ну просто кайф, особенно под бомбовый саунд. Ну и минусы имееются: первые 4 часа геймплея это симулятор катания на лифте, минимум 7 багов которые разрабы хер пофиксили , в отличии от драгануги из интересных сопартийцев тут тока половина и то они люди, геймплейно пачка ощущается странно, словно ты рэмбо а 2 подсоса только для вскрытия замков нужны. Однако все это мелочи по сравнению с кайфом от сюжета ,кат сцен, отыгрыша и попыток заромансить Таличкуууу. В общем и целом не смотря на возраст игра кайф 8/10

Delas mejores experiencias que he tenido en un RPG. Personajes carismaticos, con los que te puedes encariñar muy facil. Una historia interesante y el protagonista excelente. En conclucion uno de los mejores RPG que he jugado.

Great Story. Been just long enough since I last played to have forgotten most of the details and able to be thoroughly absorbed again. Shame I have to play it on my old Win7 machine, but 20 years will do that.
